NEW WEBSITE IS NOW ACTIVE- SIGN UP NOW.

Thanks for that info! Wish I would have seen that website feedback yesterday because I would have reported some things as well.

On a side note for the shutdown, since TSP was shut down the last couple days of the month and didn't really get accurate gains for the month, I wonder what June will be like since these first couple days are not going to truly reflect the gains as well?? I suppose TSP could run some sort of algorithm's to get more accurate gains/losses but will they? Of course that's the last thing anyone might be thinking about. Lots of us just want their dang site to work properly. I feel bad for all those who have not even been able to get their account set up yet.

I have also figured out how to CREATE A CUSTOM ACCOUNT STATEMENT. You plug in the dates you want to use, and then it creates the statement for you. Pretty cool- and THAT includes the number of shares as well as the price per share. Better function.

I created a one-day time period custom statement, and printed it out, so that I can review and make sure my accounts are accurate at inception under this software. Here is what a custom account statement page looks like:

Trying to setup new login, I get "Phone number is already in use" - Yeah...by me. Spent 45 minutes on hold overseas to find out what's up, eventually gave up.

For those trying to upload DL or Passport photo you need to make sure you have the format they are asking for, pretty sure you guys read that.

The other catch is making sure it is legible. So don't use a flash to take a photo for the DL or Passport. Also if your emailing that photo to yourself on a different computer or device be sure to use the larger version of the photo. I tried using the smaller version(s) and those did not work. I actually tried 4 times before I finally got it to work.

Also be sure to not crop out the edge of your photo, basically just crop out enough. Leave a little edge so it appears it was an actual photo that was taken, if that makes sense.

Hope that helps you guys.

Honestly I had to call the thrift line and get some help. I did most of the work once she got me started but that was my solution.

Key Takeaways:

  • Everyone has to create a brand new account- this was posted on the TSP site previously
  • If your phone number is not recognized then just do the alternate way to create account; this involves uploading Photo ID, either DL or Passport
  • You will need to also select 2 security questions/answers before your complete the new account
  • You can also create your thrift line PIN prior to completing new account

Gosh, I hope it recognizes my phone number. as a rule, I don't believe in giving out DL or Passport or any face photo that can later be used for facial recognition. Just don't trust any of that. I guess I will look into this soon. :(

I tried to sign up and all well until I started setting up answers for security questions. Then it said "Connection Failure" . Please try again in a few minutes....

All these problems, think I'll wait until next week before attempting to set up my account.

Hopefully, by then most of the major bugs will be fixed...

What about the Thriftline?

Of course I haven't done an IFT over the phone in years, but can that still be done?
Yeah, I've been using the phone menu on the thriftline at work because TFA on the web calls my home phone. I tried it just now and that no longer works either. You have to setup your account there as well. I was counting on that still working. I am totally cut off now. I am not happy.

I'm with you. At least I got into the new OPM website without a problem.:swordfight::swordfight:

Up and running. Not a single problem to report on my end. Just an annoying message to update my beneficiaries which is unnecessary.

I like the idea of a security question over a text. Two factor with a phone is great when it works, but when you lose access to your phone, good luck.

A technological catastrophe not unlike the affordable healthcare website roll out.

THE NEW WEBSITE IS NOW ACTIVE.

I just signed up - it takes about ten minutes.

go check it out. tsp.gov

Set up your new login for My Account

All TSP participants must complete a one-time process to set up a new login for the new My Account. Follow the prompts to complete this simple, secure setup.
Set up new login

Totally unsuccessful for me; I can enter all the information for a new user name and password, but I am unable to log in with it. I sent an email, with no reply, and tried waiting a while on the phone, but never answered there either. Wouldn't send a 4 digit pin via text to my personal cell phone, but did to my land line. The hold music is really annoying, too.

Attempted to setup my new log in three times already. After setting up the last page and hitting continue, it just sits there and I needed to click out of my window and try again.

Very annoying but probably due to traffic on the site right now.

That happened to me as well (see post below); and the solution, for whatever reason, was to do it on a cell phone - and what you will find is that last page is not your last. There's more! You set a thriftline PIN #, whatever that is, two security questions, and at least one multi-factor authentication, which you must then use to continue. Then, oh boy, you get to sign in - and it did indeed work.

Now the fun really starts - it takes about 5 minutes now to do an IFT (why call it an interfund transfer when you can call it something else to confuse? "change your investment" is now the term. you click and click, and eventually get to the place where you can enter an allocation, which you then can apply to the balance, or the balance and future contributions (you used to have to do these separately). The little square where you enter the numbers, is not blank, it has a "0" in it; and you have to magnify to get to the left of the "0" so you can delete it and put in your allocation. Then you submit and get "transfer successfully completed, with a confirmation number. Now it's time for another term, so what does TSP call the action this time? is it "interfund transfer?" nope. how about "change your investment?" nope again. We call it "action: reallocation among funds?"

Don't study the site too much. It will time you out after about 5 minutes or less (whatever it took to write the first paragraph of this post).

Give yourself at least 10 minutes before the IFT deadline to get through this mess; that is, if it is up and running when you try.

just tried on a computer, and it got in and out OK; so it looks like the set-up was possible on a phone only (Android for me), not a computer (Chrome); but I can now log in on either.

So I worked through a partial withdrawal today. Here is my report.

Set up: I currently am getting a $3k once-per-month payout. I wanted to do a one-time withdrawal of a $25k one-time sum. (House needs a new roof. The roofer is here now. I told him give me a couple of weeks to get the money.).

Because I am married, under the old system, that would have required a paper form, printing it out, getting my - AND MY SPOUSE’s signatures notarized at a Notary Public.

For me, that means we each have to take an hour off work to go appear before a notary. A day each. Then I would have to mail it physically. It added two weeks to the process. That was turn time then. Around two weeks to get everything done, signed, notarized, mailed.

So today I was able to do the same function.

In about half an hour. Instead of two weeks.

I was able to make a request to pay out $25k.

It made me declare if I wanted $25k before taxes, or after taxes. (Good question).

And it gave me examples of each.

I wanted $25K after taxes, so I had to tweak the import number. Hey, that’s pretty cool.
It also asked about my spouse. Asks her email address. Huh? Ok.

In about ten minutes I figure it all out.

Not too hard. Now it sends HER a formal notice she’s knowing we are withdrawing money.

The only problem here is that I know my spouse can’t open they email until she gets home tonight- about eight hours away. So- will this work? I hit SEND. It told me if everything is ok it should be processed before June 4.

So I THINK I have done everything on my end, including an electronic signature. Tonight my wife says she got the message, and did a signature at her end.

I think Everything I needed to do has been done. About half an hour total, compared to two plus weeks previously.

Now I just have to wait and see if everything goes well over the next few days.

Very satisfied with the procedure to withdraw / take a one-time partial funds distribution. It took some hard thinking to get the right answers on what to put in certain blanks, but once you did, it went right through.

I’d give it at least a “B” for this section if the site.

Good job. Clean, easy to navigation gate to nice you understand. It will go much easier next time because now I know.

Oh, one more thing-
-***. I updated my beneficiary***

DO THAT FIRST - update your beneficiary. (Mine was set to none).

I could pre-populate my wife’s data is correct. Then I could find my wife data through the designate beneficiary page. Doing that first helped everything. Go do that first.

Thanks James, very helpful post.
I'm going to need to change my monthly allotment in early July since I'm about to turn 62 and lose my FERS Supplement, so I'm going to increase my TSP withdrawal to make up for that.

Question:
Is that "partial withdrawal" link the same place I need to go to accomplish that, is that where you go to raise or lower the amount of your monthly withdrawals?

I assume so, since the other two choices on that page (an annuity and a full withdrawal) certainly aren't where I want to go. I always take zero taxes out of my monthly TSP withdrawal, and instead use my OPM annuity to adjust my Federal taxes paid, but with this new process maybe I'll rethink that.

Nice to know that a notarized form is no longer required, that was such a pain (FYI, you could submit that old TSP-95 form online though, so it wasn't necessary to mail it or even fax it).
