Market Talk / Nov. 12 - Nov. 18

Mayday,

Only time will tell. They have been late before and the IFT went through OK and on time.

Hey Guys,

I haven't had an email confirmation from tsp for a couple of weeks now. I always check and my IFTs all go through OK and on time. I've checked the site and for the life of me, I can't find anywhere there, that I might have inadvertantly turned email confirmation off. I do print out my transfers.

Great, mine must still be in the pipe. Good luck today everyone, big data day.

Edit. Just got mine.

That is excellent that you print you IFT. I do too. I have never had a major problem but some day I might.

S&P futures vs fair value: +6.9. Nasdaq futures vs fair value: +6.8. Futures trade spikes higher following a tame read on inflation, now suggesting stocks will get back on the buying track. Total CPI fell 0.5% in October (consensus -0.3%), due to plunging energy prices, while the closely-watched core rate (ex-food and energy) rose a lower than expected 0.1%, reflective of an easing in consumer inflation and pushing the year/year rate down to 2.7%. That lends some confirmation to Tuesday's favorable PPI data and further strengthens the credibility of a Bernanke-led Fed which may again forgo a rate hike when policy makers reconvene on December 12. Initial claims unexpectedly fell 2K to 308K (consensus 310K). Bonds, which were up slightly ahead of the data, have strengthened as the 10-yr note is now up 12 ticks to yield 4.56%.

Looks like TSP overall is late today posting new figures for fund balances. Normally they have your account updated somewhere between 2 and 4 am. Day before yesteday the update was posted at about 3:25 am for my account. But today, it's still showing tuesday's balances. as of a few minutes ago.

Perhaps there was a lot of heavy trading yesterday, and it's taking them a little bit to get caught up.

Or then again, it couuld be those pesky private industry contractors again.

Ever since the TSP board booted the majority of it's federal employees (A-76d) in favor of private industry mega-contracts, I am wary of the possibility someone may adscond with our retirement funds....

For some reason, the website has a glitch...

S&P futures vs fair value: +7.0. Nasdaq futures vs fair value: +7.8. The stage remains set for equities to extend a four-day winning streak for all three major averages. Aside from the encouraging read on inflation, some more M&A news is also providing a floor of support for stocks and helping investors look past some disappointments in the Tech sector. Clear Channel Communications (CCU) has agreed to be taken private for $19 bln while Reader's Digest (RDA) will be bought out for $2.4 bln. Two bellwethers that aren't shaping up to partake in today's anticipated rally, however, are Dell (DELL), which delayed its Q3 earnings report, and Applied Materials (AMAT), which missed expectations and warned that Q1 EPS will fall short of forecasts.

Next up is industrial production at 10:15. With the Philly Fed at 1pm and housing numbers at 2pm, things are not going to settle down until after the deadline. Impossible to call in advance, one of those "flip the coin" or "go with your gut" kinda days.

Marketwatch has all three of the above numbers coming out one hour earlier than the times I listed (based on CNN). Somebody forgot to reset their clocks.

Ok- time for another "Black Helicopter" theroy:

TSP.gov still hasn't updated it's web account data this morning. That is RARE not to have the preivous day's numbers posted by the open.

And I just checked my "hotmail account", and got a "all servers are busy" message for the last fifteen minutes.

My "Black Helicopter" question:

Anything else unusual going on this morning with the internet?
