Market Talk / October 15th - 21st

S&P futures vs fair value: +3.3. Nasdaq futures vs fair value: +4.8. Futures trade gets a boost following a tame read on inflation, now suggesting stocks will get back on the buying track. Total CPI fell 0.5% in September (consensus -0.3%), due to plunging energy prices, while the closely-watched core rate (ex-food and energy) rose 0.2%, matching forecasts.

I've always been interested in this volatility chard (symbol: VIX) at:
http://stockcharts.com/charts/performance/perf.html?$VIX

The peaks correspond to previous lows which means to me that they corresponded to good buying opportunities.

It is now showing less than zero which is one of the lowest readings it has had in a while. Perhaps it doesn't mean anything specifically but I'm wondering if it means this is a good time to sell.

Yeah Show-me,

Everything I've read this morning is Saying the same thing, pick your poison, bull or bear.

U.S. futures flatten on mixed set of earnings reports

I almost bailed, 100%, to the CP safety of the G testerday, but kept half in the S. I wonder if OPEC annoucement will be the impetus to push the market, finally one way of the other. I'm also bullish, but this may be the day to jump all the way into the G for a day or 2.

We'll have to see what the market brings this morning.

Congrats on your very nice returns. :)

For the EFA index, all the gaps for the first part of Sept have been filled, but Sept 26th to 27th remains open.

The NASDAQ has had a great run but there is an up gap from Aug 15th to 16th that will eventually get filled.

The AGG ( use to follow the F fund ), still has two nice gaps in need of filling in the middle of Aug.

Vectorman, please school me on what may happen with these gaps in the charts. I seemed to have missed this one somehow?
Thanks Norman

There is no time frame when the gap will get filled. It may be days, weeks, months or years: but the theory is that the gap will eventually get filled.

BTW, there is no economic news set for tomorrow...http://www.nasdaq.com/asp/econodayframe.asp?page=http://www.nasdaq.com/econoday/index.html

Thank VM, I'll read these after I decide what to do today before the deadline. Let's see, heads I'm in, tails I'm out?

Neither seem to be having an effect on the futures as both the S&P and Naz futures are relatively flat. Maybe they are cancelling each other out.

Incredible.

I just can't get over how resilient this market is. Another up day.

It's got to take a breather sometime......
