Market Talk / May 6th - 12th

Re: Market Talk / May 6th - May 12th

EZ looks cautious. UK popped after the release then waffled, they are waiting for the US again.

CNBC: 8% rise in food over the last two months. Laying the blame on Ethanol and energy.

I'm feeling the pain. Went out this morning to pick up a few things. Eggs $1.50/dz, off brand milk 3.50/gal, off brand bacon 3.50/16oz...name brand bacon over $5, I passed on it. Little better on gas here in NE TN compared to other places...$2.89/gal. Signs of consumers being more selective in spenting...I took family to Red Lobster for special dinner on a saturday night. Noticed on menu that prices have gone up quite abit and the place was only about a quarter full at 7:30 in the evening. Good food, but will not be returning because of prices. My wife and I have good income, combined, + +$100,000, we save, low debt and invest, good spenting habits...if we're feeling the pain, I would think those with lower incomes are really feeling the pressure.

I actually enjoy clipping coupons in preparation for retirement festivities. Red Lobster always has a $5 off coupon. I've got several other restaurant coupons for buy a dinner and get one free. It's not hard at all.

We clip coupons also. The point was that on a saturady night, a resturant that is normally full ( even with the coupon clipping tight wads), was barely full and it wasn't because of poor food or service.

Looks like the Retail Sales was priced in yesterday and with the Core PPI coming in soft the S&P is back above 1500.

Dang, those guys that bought I fund yesterday are going to cash in and those that held are going to get it back and then some!

Maybe yesterday was the low point on this next leg up....

Or like Paladin said, could be a dead cat bounce. The thing that worries me is the CPI on Tuesday. If consumer prices keep rising they will slow their spending and we are 70% consumer driven. Also the gasoline problem will not get better. More drivers every year and no new refineries, so you have the same supply as demand continues upward.

Chrysler may end up going totalitarian - free wheels for those that are poor.

Hope you're right, but I'm not counting on getting it all back today.
