Market Talk / July 9 - 15

Nikkei has made a turn to the positive - and there should be some better earnings tomorrow or we wait on GE for Friday. I don't understand why I can't be a gloom and doomer? Be right and sit tight.

You act like we are on this board in real time 24/7.

I've no time to babysit...

That's basically what we've been doing here lately.

Rod,

Butchery, favoritism, accusations, accusations. Sling enough mud and some is bound to stick.
I'm all for asking Tom, if the accusation has proof, it stays, otherwise it gets a permanent delete.

BTW: Figured out some of the wierd keys we got. Still got about 1/2 dozen to go....

I thought we had the last spat settled early on. Left, only to return and find it got worse.

That TSP mug with the patience in it. Well it's about empty!

Rule # 4 Intentionally posting false or misleading information, is almost impossible to prove. Maybe it needs a modification to: Repeated serious harmful posting.........?

Heck, I don't know any more, banter? I don't think so!

;) Rule #5a, article 6, section 2, paragraph 3 states that members at all times must agree with everything I say. :D

[Edit] Now thats a dang good rule!...........Spaf

Major gauges slump in broad-based stock selloff, led by tech-heavy Nasdaq, amid worries about earnings, economy.
Stocks slumped Wednesday, with tech-sector woes spreading to the broader market, amid concerns about corporate profit growth, geopolitical tensions and the mix of higher inflation and slower economic growth. Thursday is not expected to bring much relief, with little economic news and few market-moving earnings reports on tap. The brief recovery proved unsustainable Wednesday. A few companies have reported their second-quarter results, but the period of confessionals doesn't really heat up until later in the month, and investors may be nervous about that.

This has been a quite interesting read. I opened TSPTalk where I left off yesterday afternoon at page 9. I didn't even realize there was a disagreement until Tom quoted The Wizard & told him to lighten up ! How about re-reading this whole scene with The Wizard and The_Technician ignore buttons on and see if you are missing any information you could not have done without.
When I get the impression from folk's responses that there is no more of their belittling, I will start reading them again.

Hi all, miss me? :D I've been stuck in an alley but someone never showed up?
If anyone is interested, I posted sometime ago in response to someone's question about the best time of the month to put money into their IRA and I suggested based on my own research that the best time was the 2nd Thursday of each month. Guess what today is?

Doesn't always hold true, we'll have to wait and see. I'm not currently posting my moves but a friend of mine is posting what I recommend. Guess who? :p

I did tell them to jump in a day early though. My charts told me to jump in yesterday for today. We may be down today but I doubt it'll be as big a stinker as yesterday.

Happy returns!

Anybody buying 6 month treasuries....what's the return 5.3% every six months....awesome....the general public shouldn't worry with the stock market.....:)

Hi everyone. First time post, long time reader.
Outstanding job Tom with the site. I look foward to your morning market talk. You always compile several tools from different sources and do a good job of explaining how they are relevant to the day's analysis.

Wizard crossed the line when he said this was not the place to learn. There is a lot of raw info posted by many people, and you should be personnally offended.

Tom, if you look at nearly all of Wizard's posts on this thread, they are merely a negative comment, usually about the ECONOMY, with no tie in to how it will move the market and I would love for them to be moved over to that thread by the moderators. Looks to me like he's here to pick a fight and not find a way to outperform the tsp funds based on staying informed on the MARKET as best we can.

Thank you, now I'll resume lurking.

You sure that isn't an annualized return, rather than 5.3% in six months (10.88% per year with compounding)??

Tek,
I would tend to agree with you. But, I don't think we are in a major dive. The robust economy is slowing. How slow, we don't know. Stocks are not over bought, but fairly midway based on the RSI. We seem to be more dependent on foreign oil and more worried about terrorism, which is getting more out of control. Folks seem to be getting fed up with the middle east affairs. All they want to do is fight. I'm beginning to think it's not worth lossing another american soldier. If those ding bats get any nuke's it will only be a matter of time.
We are in a correction with worries, woes, and a energy fever. IMHO stocks are low, so there are some good buys just stick with the index funds. The rest is pure patience! We need some good earnings to act as a catalyist to get us out of this slump and our minds off the worries and woes.

Thanks for the input Traffic Dod, and welcome to the other side of the board! I will consider what you suggested.

Tom

I think it's time to think about other great uses for the TSPtalk mug. Tom, thanks for sending me a mug in reocogniiton of one good month a few months ago. I've blown every trade opportunity ever since then- moving the wrong place just before it went DOWN.

At this point I think I need to go out in the street, and hold up my TSPtalk mug as a pan-handler looking for spare change. I'll have the neatest looking cup out there. :-)

But at the rate I am picking them these days, that is about the best use I am going to have for the TSPtalk mug I won two months ago.

Can YOU think of other uses for a TSPtalk Mug, besides holding coffee?

What else can a TSPtalk mug be used for?

Looks like some of us think we have hit the bottom? HUUUMMmmmmm?
Have we hit the top of the Oil rally? HHHUMMMmmm?

Will unrest in Nigeria, Iran, and what appears to be a war between Israel and Lebanon, will it be over tomorrow? HHUUUUUMMMmmmm?
Sounds mighty risky to me?
What do you people know that I don't know? School me please, I don't want to miss a rally!!:(
