Market Talk / April 29th - May 5th

Looks like the market is uneasy about the slowing of the economy. The street likes it when you can cut labor cost and usually rallies. Means more profit for the company. On the other side of that coin is you have to have jobs for people to drive the consumer driven economy. It is starting to show that people are holding back. Income was up .7% and spending up .3%. Savings rate went from -1.2% to -.8%, that means we, the consumers, are not spending as much of out income as before. A turning point. The sub-prime loan graft cast a light on a unseen problem. Now the common folks are seeing it.

Somebody was buying the small caps today on the close - could be an institution or mutual fund. It wasn't anybody on this board that's for sure. Fear is easier to act on than confidence - no I really know it was CP. I just happen to like CA (capital appreciation). We'll see what this train does next week - be prepared to run like the wind to get on board because it will not wait for anyone.

What did you all make of the high numbers of tsptalkers making shifts today in allocations?

It seemed to be a higher than normal number of us making some moves today....

I think alot of people hate to be long over weekends, plus the G pays Monday. This could be the reason for a high number of IFT's.

I noticed that, too! Of course this type of action happens when I move out of a fund and into another. I've been sitting in S all week waiting for it to have that type of movement. I just hope they get their senses back next week and drive up the S&P even higher.

Going to start a new thread!
Thanks for the views and posts
