Market Talk / July 9 - 15

Lots of headlines this morning saying that we will bounce, but in the last few minutes futures have turned negative. Who is driving this bus anyway??

Israel hits Beirut airport again

Lebanese leader calls for cease-fire

BEIRUT, Lebanon (CNN) -- Lebanon called for a cease-fire on Friday as Israel renewed its attacks on Beirut's international airport and Hezbollah missiles slammed into northern Israel.

I think the Mideast news has done about all its going to, unless there is a major escalation (bombing Syria, for example). Today it will be all about oil and the slowing economy. If oil holds or drops slightly, we will get a small bounce. If it touches $80, even for a moment, what legs are left holding things up will collapse.

Naturally, any of the above triggers will get pulled at 12:01 pm.

Sitting in G, trigger finger getting REALLY itchy!!

Medic. Sorry I am seeing a sea of red. My first thought was - WE NEED A MEDIC!!!!!!!!!!!

Trigger Fingers

Hey Pilgrim, put some soothing cream on it and save yourself some grief.......this thing is going down.....I was looking at the crystal ball just a minute ago and it seems we could wait a few days on it...

Market Update - 09:40 am: Despite two consecutive days of sharp losses, escalating geopolitical concerns lifting oil prices above $78 per barrel and the Bank of Japan joining other central banks around the globe working to contain inflation by raising their overnight lending rate for the first time in six years aren't exactly enticing buyers to rush back into equities. Aside from ongoing tensions between Israel and Lebanon posing a risk to global security and underpinning a sense of nervousness, merely decent Q2 earnings from bellwether General Electric has not been enough to renew enthusiasm for equities and simply adds to concerns about earnings prospects in the face of a slowing economy that was further evidenced in a weaker than expected read on total retail sales. Market Update - 10:30 am: Major averages are off their lows but still sport modest losses as the bulk of industry leadership remains negative. Homebuilding -6.0%,the worst performing SnP industry group in Q2, is also today's biggest laggard after DR Horton slashed its Q3 and full-year EPS guidance, which is weighing heavily on a Consumer Discretionary sector already reeling from the consequences of oil prices at record highs.

DaveM,

There are no losses until you IFT - only depreciation. This bad news is what the Fed wants. The bullish trend is still intact - patience and courage are now needed. Easy to say very hard to do.

Clock Is Ticking

A close inspection of our collective position shows that many of us have much courage, including you my friend.

Now is the time to decide on Monday's outcome. Will peace break out over the weekend? Will oil subside? Will there be buying in Tokyo? Will the beer supply hold?

Dave

It would appear the rear bear flaps are open and there are 50 million Frenchmen on the run. I say let'em run. The fear is that Iran will get involved and the price of oil goes to $100. Remember we are on both sides of these ugly guys and we will support our friends. If Iran gets involved we are more than ready to help take them down - do it now and be done with the mess.

Daaaaaaang!!!!......Market sure is trying to get to that 1220 zone today....like I said the other day....it wouldn't surprise me......

Did ya'll see the news on the Poll of Who Americans Want in Power???

I took a Poll today....yeap, why not, anybody can, poll whoever you feel like..........I found out that .... Americans want Dogs and Cats in Power!!!!

The moto of the day is how to hurt yourself without really trying. I'll take those body punches - the more pain the better. When you run out of cake, let them eat dividends. I'll probably be accumulating C fund shares under $14.00 for the rest of the summer - but actually I'm partial to low prices. No fear from this BULL - been in this pasture many times.
