Playing the I fund

I can't say I blame the people hating on the I Fund. It's like somebody borrowing money from you today, expect to get paid back the next day, but the person doesn't show up. Instead, the person shows up the next day when you're not there. He says you're all squared because you didn't stick around long enough to collect, yeah right!

Great analogy Ebb. However, if you do the loaning often enough and keep showing up at the same place, eventually you should show up and the person pays you back for a loan the previous day which you didn't make. I keep telling myself that the odds are piling up in my favor.

I Fund gained only +.10 cents from 19.13 to 19.23 today. The FV owed yesterday was corrected (-.14 cents), but another FV of -.16 cents was assessed. Altogether -.30 cents was taken off the I Fund. I'm not complaining as long as they give it back tomorrow because I'm back on the F Fund come Monday. :D
Ebbnflow,I think you are correct in preserving capital. The economic numbers are coming out in a few minutes. If these are indicative of continuing inflationary pressures, the FED will probably hike rates once on August 8-10, more before a pause. This is a judgement call, because nobody really knows. Since the I-Fund tends to drop further than the C-Fund, for example, you can sell and buy the I-Fund back later. In my case, I am staying partially in the I-Fund, because I bought at lower prices, but the bulk I am transfering to the F-Fund today.

GDP came lower but the Employment Cost Index (ECI) came in higher than expected. If the FED pays more attention to rising oil prices and the ECI, it could raise rates next week. There are other numbers coming out next week, before the FED announces its decision. Anyone else have any ideas?

The dollar is dropping significantly, which is positive for the I-Fund, and provides what seems will be a good place to exit the I-Fund this afternoon, either totally or partially.

If I got out before noon or wait till weekend? If I go before noon I would get market value at todays closing? If I wait till weekend would it be closing of Monday? Thanks

There are people here who might be more suited than me give you a better answer. But my opinion is that you will benefit, provided that the dollar drop happens before the European markets close around 11:30 AM (Eastern Time), and as long as Europe is up or at least flat at the close, since Japan closed this morning on a positive note early today (+163.09, in relation to their closing yesterday).

this is just a newbie asking ????? why would you want to get out of the I fund if the dollar dropping is positive for the I fund???

Among other reasons, because the markets don't go up in a straight line; and there are international problems; and Fair Value (FV) has to be taken into account; and there is no certainty what the FED will do next week. If you are in for the long haul, you can stay put with most if not all, but you don't want to risk everything by speculating with your retirement account.

so if I make a ift this aftenoon or over the weekend, i would not get out until monday, is this correct ???

Yes. You would be in the I fund for Monday, and you would get out at Monday's closing price.

I always am leary of Monday's, because there are really 3 days that bad news could slam the stocks.......But I am back to 100% stocks next Monday (only 60% today, though, DAMN)...........We will see, just a crap shoot if you are an In-N-Out investor (that reminds me of In-N-Out Burgers, damn I miss those!!!!!) :) ....pk

MSCI up almost a percent. Plus I fund "owed" about 15 cents from yesterday's FV (I believe they'll settle up today rather than add more FV). I see the I fund up about 1.7% to 19.57.

Any takers.

Sure. If they correct all their FV's, it'll be exactly ;) 19.59.
