Playing the I fund

Any FV with that? The I Fund can still beat me this month with a +.73% showing today while I'm sitting on the F Fund. I don't want any surprises. :D

No sudden movements in currencies or stocks since MSCI made its post. There shouldn't be any FV's.

We're looking at an I Fund price of:
19.58

If dollar droped how did we end with 19.58? Friday was 19.59. I don't get it? Whenever dollar drops isn't this fund go up?

The dollar was only down about .15% today. Besides, a falling dollar helps the I fund do well but it doesn't guarantee gains. France was down .38%, Germany was down .41% and the big one was U.K. down .78%. Asia was up which is why the I fund was flat.

MSCI (0.886%)
Chances high for FV. Dollar has dropped approximately 0.4% since noon. (means the loss of 0.886% should be lessened).

Man, looks like we'll be seeing I fund price of:

19.41

but like FundSurfer said, there was a drop in the dollar. I don't know if the drop came before or after MSCI released its numbers.

MSCI's numbers reflect a gain in the dollar. I think I agree that the afternoon drop in the dollar will likely bring an FV today.

With the Feds thinking on raising interest rates how would this effect the I fund. I was 100% in I fund. Before noon today I transfered 50% to F fund, 50%G fund. If I fund gets lower it would be time to jump in . Yes?

I'm waiting for it to get lower before I get in, but I'm expecting at least a 4% drop over the next week. We already lost .8%. If it goes up from here, we'd be in overbought RSI territory. I just can't believe that would happen in these times.

Of course, my feelings have usually turned out opposite than what has actually happened.

The raising of the interest rate would tend to increase the value of the dollar which would decrease the value of the I-fund. The market tends to have this priced in before the Fed meeting. It is when the Fed does something unexpected that we see fireworks when the Fed announces whether or not there will be another increase. Right now the market has fluctuated a bunch and there are a lot of bets both ways. I expect a lot of movement when the Fed announces this time. The problem is, I've got no idea which way it will be.

Australian Bank Lifts Rate to 6 Percent
Australia's central bank raised interest rates Wednesday, saying it was concerned that inflation might not slow down due to high world oil prices and damage from Cyclone Larry. Officials worried about the fallout, particularly for homeowners, from the one-quarter percentage point increase to 6.0 percent. But while that is the highest since early 2001, Prime Minister John Howard said the economy remains strong, and the increase wasn't as large as some had feared.

Nikkei dips on doubts over future earnings
TOKYO - The Nikkei average fell 0.57 percent on Wednesday as recent gainers on quarterly results such as Sony Corp. slipped on doubts about earnings prospects given uncertainty about the U.S. economy and the likelihood of higher material and labor costs. U.S. data showing an uptick in inflation raised expectations that the Federal Reserve will raise rates for an 18th straight time at its meeting next week and this sent most investors in Japan to the sidelines, market analysts said.

Oh, oh. Here comes the FV. Tell me it ain't happening. Someone please. We need some relief -- from the FV and the weather! :D

When this site started in late 2003, less than 1% of TSP assets were in the I fund. Think that figure has changed since then? :)

I'm looking for the current stats but I can't seem to find them on tsp.gov.

Tom,

I found in a TSP 5-9-06 press release...

as of 04/30/06 186 billion dollars with 3.6 milion accounts, no break down on allocation. But....

as of 12/31/05 from the TSP financial statement...

G fund 64.5 billion
F Fund 10.3 billion
C fund 66.7 billion
S fund 13.7 billion
I fund 12.6 billion

from a Washing Post article, Federal Diary dated 7/18/06/....
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/17/AR2006071701348.html

329,000 accounts in the L fund(s) with 11.6 billion

Question is why is it so hard to find current fund allocations? May take a letter to my congress rep. Hmmm

Jeff

Allocations

At TSP.gov the data are contained in periodic reports, found in the 'forms and pubs' pull-down menu. I estimate that 7% of all dollars are in the I-fund.
