Malyla's Account Talk

You got that right ... Rogue ... My sis is one and goes to the San Diego ComicCon every year.

I loved the San Diego ComicCom. It was the first convention I ever attended back in the early 80's (I'm old only physically - young at heart:D)

Anyone reading the Civil War series? Are you liking the changes Marvel has made to the fanchise?

Rogue was my favorite X-Men. I just love the way each character embodies some teenage angst (Rogue - feeling isolated and untouchable) and how to persevere beyond that and get into the confidence stage of adulthood. (I seriously thought of writting a thesis in highschool on this until I found that someone had aready done so. Gotta love pop culture mixing with research:cheesy:)

That tendency for research has followed me into adulthood and my chosen career. Watching my second passion play out on the movie screen has also been a blast. Life is indeed good!:)

I'm staying 40% S and 60% I.

Still trending water in the deep end but I'm seeing shark fins in the distance and something is bumping my fins. I hope it is just a fish or two running from the shark:blink:
I may be hytailing to the swallows soon.:worried:

The Comic stuff is fun stuff today.

I had read the entire series of Stephen King's.......Dark Tower Series..and it is a wild ride for sure.

This year though Marvel has teamed with King and doing a comic book series also based on King's...Dark Tower/Gunslinger series. The fourth one is out and it is very good I think and the Art work is great. These bring the story to life real good and all.

Have you created a new Malyla's Account in the Members' Accounts (no chat) forum? Tom sent you a PM to do so. I guess gave permission.

Yes, these indices have basically remained the same for G, F and C. Wells Fargo bank handled the TSP funds the first seven years or so. Barclays has been managing the assets for past 12 years or so. I recall there may have been minor changes to the F fund index when Barclays took over.

The F Fund was invested in the Barclays Bond Index Fund, which tracks the Lehman Brothers Government/Corporate bond index

The first C and F Fund investments in the Barclays Equity Index Fund and Barclays Bond Index Fund, respectively, occurred on January 29, 1988.

The returns for 2001 reflect the actual performance of the S and I Funds for May 2001 and subsequent months. For the first four months of 2001 and for prior years, the returns shown for the S and I Funds reflect the performance of the Wilshire 4500 and EAFE indexes (without deduction of any administrative expenses, trading costs, or investment management fees), respectively.

Thanks EWGuy.

Am I right in assuming that the G,F,C monthly returns were based on the same securities, funds, index that they are now (since June 2003)?

We all have a little Rogue in us!!!:D The interesting thing is that the comics of today have evolved to keep their mature and very loyal audience.

I don't read many comics, I'm actually a trading card vendor on the side with inkworks, who always has a guest at their conventions ... like actors from ALIAS, and LOST!

Thanks EWGuy for the info. That answers alot of my historic questions. I have some reading to do now;)

I'm still working this. Thanks again.

Cool. I use to collect inkworks cards (Angel and Buffy, I think some Xena (?), etc..). They are very nice quality. Haven't done much lately, but if Heroes becomes a card set, I'll come back into the collecting cave:D:nuts:

Stephen King's.......Dark Tower Series..

I have heard about this but I haven't been able to pick it up. Sound dark like the Sandman series.

I may just have to drop by the local comic shop to catch up:nuts:

Thanks for the heads up Wolverine

No problem, it's fun stuff.

It started in February and there are 7 to start with each month for 7 months initially.

Also, in the same format they have a.....Dark Tower Marvel Spotlight as Stephen King's Magnum Opus. It covers a bit of each book and the people involved in the project.

Also, in the same format a.......Sketch Book.......of the art work.

Another of the same format which was supposed to be out in April but hasn arrived yet is............The Essential Handbook to Stephen King's Dark Tower comic series. I have to check about this again soon to see if it has arrived yet, since I did order this also.

They also did the first one again but with a whole different cover only. This will only be done with the first as I understand it.

Anyhoo, there is some more info for ya about all this. lol

Do you think they will make a TBP of this series. I'm getting too busy to chase down back issues and add ons. :( (really - more a lazy issue:D)

Have you read the civil war or house of m books? Usually, (as in 'in the past') Marvel has hesitated to change their Earth 616 version (they would always have it revert back somehow), but this seems different with the setup of a hero team in every state to police the populance (Scary). I do like the elimination of the Mutant population (through loss of powers, not death) as that was getting out of hand. Trying to collect all the Mutant books busted my budget:notrust:

Your much deeper into the comic stuff than I am so it seems. You could help me. LOL

The reason I got into the Dark Tower Comic Series is because I had already gotten done with his 7 book Dark Tower series. It is not a short series either. LOL This is something new for him having his work done in a comic format. I wanted to continue with it all and see how it goes with it in this format. It is done very good and I will now go the distance however far they go with it at Marvel.

King's Dark Tower book series is a culmination of a 30-35 year project from when he was starting out as a writer. The last book of it wasn't until 2005 if I recall it right. He has also hinted at re-writing the entire series. LOL

This Dark Tower comic book series is new this year and it should not be that hard for back issues to be available I would think.

I don't know what this TBP is you refer to here either. LOL

No I haven't read the Civil War or house of m books that you mention here.

This stuff can be addicting and like anything of a hobbie or interest does cost money for sure. I don't know how wide I am going to go with other comics as of yet. I go into the local comic bookstore only once a month to pick this up and really need to get out quick or it can get dangerous for me to be there very long or else like when I go into a bookstore in general I end up walking out with way too many books. LOL

Anyhoo, it is fun with all this as usual and it just adds more to the already wide range of reading that I like to do.

I also like what they are doing with the comic book heroes by bringing them to the big screen and all.

 Yes I am a confessed comicbook nut. You should see the look of admiration on my friends faces as I discuss the intricacies of Walter Simonson's Thor books or Frank Miller's Daredevil/Batman, or Chris Claremont's X-Men , or why Ms.Marvel hated Rogue but ended up with all these cool powers...(what - you say that's not a look of admiration but a look of incredulousness and tolerance- hmmm - they love me, don't they:laugh: )

TPB = trade paperback (combining many separate books into one bound volume suitable for bookshelves)

yes - stay out of those stores. Longterm exposure tends to shrink the wallet and, apparently, causes your friends to look at you funny;)

I am loving the movie adoptations of the stories I read in college. Even DC has redeemed themselves with Superman Returns. But Marvel rules the summer movie screen.
*************************************************

Well the markets did very little. That shark I'm seeing from the deep end hasn't moved so I'm still ready to swim to the shallows. Another day, another opportunity to make money:cheesy:

Ok, got the TPB thing understood. lol

I had actually picked up the Marvel Visionaries Hulk volumes 1,2,3 so that is what those would be as in TPB I guess. lol

I see they have these black & white page comics like Superman in one book. They are like 300 pages or so each.

I also just read that they have sold out the 1st and 2nd books of the Dark Tower comic books. They did initially over print them but, it has gone beyond already what they were expecting. They are doing reprints of both though with new covers.

Where I go for mine I have a membership and I am guaranteed what I have ordered plus the new reprints. I already have the 1st new reprint with new cover. They will probably have the 2nd reprint with new cover when I go in again next month.

I suspect the way this new series is going they will sell out all first issues of this.

Ok, looks like it could be an up day for the markets from the get go but, a possible fall back later in the day. We shall see.

Move to a little more conservative allocation. The deep end was getting a little scary.

Lets see if the F fund can come through this time.

Presently, 40% F, 20% each in C,S,I

After being in the S fund since May 25, I'm now heading to the frog pond for a breather while the storm rages at sea. Mondays are not good for the S fund in this quarter, so ribbit...

Here are the numbers I crunched up for week 14 and up and compared it to the Q1 returns ...

1st day of the week:

F = 0.44% Down from Q1 1.25% Over All 1.69%
C = 0.70% Up from -0.24% Over All 0.45%
S = 1.31% Up from -0.37% Over All 0.94%
I = 1.40% Up from 0.75% Over All 2.15% <---Winner :nuts:

Ok, so what your saying is that I fund is best for Monday close ?

Prelunch brain pain is making this difficult :notrust:-- can you explain what you mean by S=1.31% on Mondays in the 14th week??? (I gotta go eat - maybe some protein will help me feel less confused):o

Oh ... I just ment Week 14 and up ... better known as the second quarter (Q2) to this date. So as of the 1st week of April on forward.
So, "S=1.31%" means that as of April, the S fund has made that return on Mondays alone (Tuesdays too, if there was a monday holiday)

Overall, The I fund has been the best performer for first days of the week, since it has produced positive returns in both Q1, and Q2.:D

But on the other side of the coin, the percent of times that it has produced a positive return is 54.55% (12 gains - 9 losses - 1 no change)

This is just for 2007 ...

Thanks - this is good to know. I may change my strategy a bit to match:D

Electra - what a great avatar.
I wish the movie had been a little better as she is in my 10 ten favorite characters. I don't think there will be a second Daredevil but I am looking forward to the Silver Surfer (oh yes.. the FF too) this summer.

The FF, Silver surfer, Galactis stories were good back in the day.

Happy summer movie viewing.
