Re: Anyone know how serious congress is about cancelling the SS supplement in 2013???

from that same article: Federal employees have planned for and relied on this benefit being available to them for decades,” Kelley said. “It is hard to imagine that this Congress would blatantly break this promise when so many are just about to become eligible for this benefit.”
Looks like this is for anyone retiring after dec31, 2012. But exempts Leo, firefighters and atc.

Re: Anyone know how serious congress is about cancelling the SS supplement in 2013???

I was reading the "Employee groups assail proposal to increase pension contributions" and the cancelling the FERS SS supplement got my attention, I am eligible to go this summer but wanted to work another 2 years (dont know if I have 2 left in me, our organization is so screwed up).

This may be a deal breaker for me if they vote to cancel the SS supplement in 2013.

thanks as always for any comments and this is a awesome site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bj

barbarajean, Thanks for posting on my thread. With all the changes that Congress is making for the federal employee it is important that we keep a close eye on what they are doing with our retirement. I am going to retire no later than June 1st and the pay freeze we have been under has cost me a better high 3. Good luck and stay up to date on all the developements.

Asia and Europe markets are looking very green this morning. Futures are up just a little. Tighten the seat belt and make sure the safety bar is down and locked. Keep your sticky pants close just incase. It may be one heck of a ride today.

The chart below shows how the FCSI funds did for 2010 and 2011 in the months of February, March and April. I know that almost anything can change the dirctioin of the markets but the last two years were very profitable for the mentioned months. Good luck all.

The markets have taken a down turn. The VIX took a huge positive jump. Most of the news out there is good today, but some predictors are saying it is Greece causing the down turn. REALLY??? Honestly the news out of Greece isn't very different from what has been going on for the last couple of weeks. The market is being manipulated and Greece is the scapegoat today.

The same things happened with the debt talks in the US last summer. The news would come out that thigns were progressing then the markets fell then we found out the truth.
I may buy back in by the end of the week, but I would feel a lot better about it if the Greek deal was done.

Would be nice to move on to the next problem. ;)

nasa - the other day, I think it was on Weather.com, there was a satellite film of the Eastern Seaboard at night,, traveling south to north, with the Northern Lights quite obvious. It was all gorgeous, but now I can't find it. Is that something you can bring up?

I will see what I can do.

Re: nasa1974 account talk

This is an interview with Melissa Dawson, NASA Earth Scientist. It has some neat videos in it. I will keep looking. It may take a few days since I'm not retired from NASA yet.

Oh, yeah! - at about 2:19 is where the showing started, but it had been greatly slowed down so we viewers could really take it all in!
I was surprised it wasn't still on weather.com, but you know, there is a big possiblity that isn't where I viewed it to begin with!
Thank you much, nasa...
-and take care these next few months....:)

grandma, I have found that video you were asking about. Quite by accident though. I have been looking and actually found this link on a minuteman missle forum I belong to. Go figure. :cheesy: Enjoy......

Here is the link: The Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth

I am also posting it in the videos section. There is neat stuff on here.

THE VIEW FROM ABOVE: On Friday, Feb. 10th, NASA released a new set of videos from the International Space Station that officials said was among "the most spectacular night imagery ever taken from space of the United States." After watching the following movie (48 MB), you might find it hard to disagree:
greatlakes_strip2.jpg
NASA describes the footage: "The sequence of shots was taken January 30, 2012 from 06:13:36 to 06:23:09 GMT, on a pass from northern Mexico to northwest New Brunswick. The video begins looking northeast over Texas, where cities like San Antonio, Houston, and the Dallas/Fort Worth area can be seen. Oklahoma City, Kansas City, and St. Louis are easily distinguished as the ISS continues northeast over the Great Plains. The video concludes with Chicago illuminating the southern edge of Lake Michigan, and auroras shimmering in the distance over Canada."The auroras in the video appeared on a relatively uneventful night, geomagnetically speaking, when a CME completely missed Earth. Apparently, even the quiet nights are spellbinding onboard the ISS.
