uscfanhawaii's account talk

uscfanHI, ALOHA! I didn't use up a trade in TSP Tracker for the month of September, so I decided to go all in 100-I. I didn't bother to wait for a larger dip than today's dip. USC Trojans football goes up against Tom Crowley's University of Utah next Thursday, 10/4. I expect that Vegas should have USC beating U of U by at least two touchdowns. Tonight, the Hawaii Warriors play BYU (a former rival from the WAC and MWC days) in Provo, Utah. I'll bet against the Vegas line and predict that the Rainbow Warriors outshine the Cougars by a field goal. I'm glad to see that you and czapor1967 aren't at the bottom of the heap in TSP AutoTracker (mahalo to your wise trades). -- Aloha, from ChessGuy (#260 in the Tracker)

Thanks for the good words, ChessGuy! And congrats on your AT this year!
I have been real cautious this year, and consequently have missed a lot of the plus-up. :( I am still being cautious, going in only Half today! I still have a gut feeling that the market going down to the 50d EMA, or WORSE, may still await us before the end of Oct. If it doesn't, I plan to go all in anyway.

USC should do well. The Stanford loss will weigh heavily on their season. I wish I could share your enthusiasm for UH, but they have NEVER won in Provo. I will still root for them, but will be happy if they can just keep it close!!

Went all out on Friday. That Sentiment Survey freaked me out! And later, when the bounce from the jobs report did not hold, that seems to be a real warning sign! :suspicious:

Hey, has anyone heard of, or subscribed to a newsletter by Daniel P. Wiener called 'The Independent Adviser for Vanguard Investors'. My IRA is mostly in Vanguard funds, and he thinks he can steer you to the better Vanguard funds. It's something like $100 per year. I am wondering if it would be worth it.

OK, this is a good one... my wife saw a poster on the back wall of an office in NCIS. It said:

There are 10 types of people in the world……

Those who know BINARY and those who do NOT!!

That totally cracked me up!! I have now posted it in my cubicle at work. :D

I have this on a T-shirt!

GOOD ONE, Frixxxx! So I take it this has been around a long time, and I am just now catching up to the joke!

By the way, when are you going back to the old flaming skull?!? Your new avatar really creeps me out!! :worried:

I agree on the new avatar, though I love it.

The joke struck me as not funny tonight as I have just completed an on line course about networking where we had to show how the subnet mask worked by converting it all to binary and doing the adding. Nothing but paper and pencil allowed. My approach has always been if you don't need more that 254 subnets or more than 254 clients, use a private class B address and get on with it. Private networks of course.

Yeah, it is funny, just not tonight.

regards

PO

I finally went half IN yesterday, since the 50d was tested and survived again. OUCH!! As Tom said, if the market keeps knocking on the door, eventually the door opens!
But now I am out of IFTs and must wait til Nov. Otherwise, I would be jumping in on this down day. It will be interesting to see if the IFT rules actually HELP me this month by keeping me out of the free-fall.

FWIW, I am still getting updates from TSPWealth.com and they just posted a move to 100% I.....That is, whenever the market reopens.... which now looks like COB Wed, 10-31 for TSP, since the NYSE has already announced that they will be closed both today and tomorrow (Tue). :suspicious:

I went ALL IN today. The sideways action seems poised to break to the upside, so I am taking this down day as an opportunity to go fully into equities.
I would have gotten in late Oct if I had had any IFTs left! Oh well, this may still work out ok!

Thanks for the kind words ChessGuy!!! :D

It's been a busy Holiday Season, but I have been watching the market like a hawk. Finally went back ALL In last week when there was a small dip. Plan to stay in equities thru the end of the year at least. I just want to be all in when the fiscal cliff is averted. Even if it gets delayed to next year, I can't help but believe that the market will take off for the 1550 area very quickly once it is a done deal. (of course, uncle tom cautions about a 'sell the news' response!)

Excellent job, Czapor, in bouncing back from WAY DOWN!! I wasn't as far down as you, but you have zoomed right past me. :embarrest: I am getting close to being back in positive territory, and joining you! Next goal....beat the G fund for the year! Then on to better things in 2013. By the way, I didn't post it (cause I never got any feedback that people cared for it) but the TSPwealth website also went 100% I fund just before you did. Good Move!! :D

Chess Guy, what can I say...great year!

Sigj, do you follow the Message Board? You are my HERO!! You were able to put in 20+% returns 2 years in a row!! Please write in something about your approach! Looking at the AT, it is not too often that anyone does so well consistently. (Contrarian Jeff also comes to mind!)

Tom, maybe you can honor the achievement somehow!! At least encourage some open dialogue on the approach used.....C'mon Sigj.....give it up!!

Mele Kalikimaka everyone!!

Enough from the Doom and Gloomers/ End of the worlders!! What about the 12 out of 28 AT'ers who used today as an Entry Point!! :D

When/IF the fiscal cliff is averted, I still think 1550 will NOT be far behind. Better to be IN the market when that happens!!

As I write this Sunday nite, futures are looking down....but only about -.4%. But I am sticking with equities thru the end of the year (at least) cause of what Tom has said.....you're gonna want to be in equities when the fiscal cliff is settled. And that might be in January, so the politicians can claim that they 'lowered taxes' after they did nothing to stop the taxes from being raised Jan 1!!

....just sayin'.

Hello, 2013!!

I will starting out this year with the same %s from late December...all in to equities! I missed a lot of growth by staying out of the market last year, so this year I am going more Bullish.... and maybe even becoming another BT!! (Is that even POSSIBLE?!?!)

Truthfully, I am really upbeat for the market this year. If Europe can stay calm, and the Fiscal Cliff can be realistically addressed, and the economy continues to improve (even if a little slowly).....I think we can have a very good year!

Good Luck, all! I am looking forward to another good year of discussions with all of you!! :D

Woo Hoo!! It sure feels better to be at #285 on the tracker, instead of on Ocean's Bottom 50!! :D

I really got killed last year by being out of the market too much and missing a lot of the swings up, so I will plan to stay in more this year. Also, I am evaluating a twist on James' LMBF system that evaluates the funds twice a month instead of just at month's end, since we have 2 IFTs and I am thinking that the LMBF (although exceptional!!) might not be reacting to market changes fast enough.

Congrats to Czapor for your exceptional climb back from the depths of the tracker to finish 2012 at 0.00%!!! (Truly remarkable!) And continuing your successes this year!!

200 posts now....and a ka-billion more to catch up to Nnuut!! (and all you moderators.....thanks for all you do!!)
