Steadygain's Account Talk

I'm sharing this because the news over the past few weeks has been discouraging and so I recently has this fond memory and was hoping to spread a little joy - a break from the Markets - in the event this week contiunes in a negative trend.
I used to play a lot of poker; Many of the games lasted many, many hours and during that time, it can be very streaky. When I seemed to be on a losing streak where nothing was going right, I had a trick to distract myself from the game and think about my family all the good things going on in my life, and how little this game mattered. Things seemed to turn around at about that point.

Thanks for sharing your story.

Hey Steadygain,

I appreciate your style of communication - definitely very unique, holding true to your sig.

Thanks for sharing with all of us...it makes the melancholy in me flare up. Keep doing what you're doing, 'cause it's gonna come back around and bless ya!!! :)

As Pink Floyd says:

Craaazzy Over the rainbow

I am Craaazy Bars in the window

This song rings true for me - regarding my TSP account.

Craaazzy Toys in the attic

I am Craazzy Shall we go fishing

I see today as a buying opportunity so Friday's pay is going 100% I Fund - that will put every penny in I Fund

Sometime soon I'm heading to the Cave and will probably stay there awhile. The Cave is the ultra safe place, where you can not be hurt no matter what happens to the Markets. Things have turned out pretty disappointing so far this quarter and I am reaching a point where I need to go to safety and gather up my biweekly contributions. Although the Cave only gives a penny a week - that's another $100 or so, which is a whole lot better than losing $1000s.

For now - the crazy side will not let the rational side come through - and insists the gaining opportunities will push me to the top (or at least let me recover the loss).

Of couse Jimi and Janis will live on forever and ever in my heart and mind but the absolute insanity of remaining in a Market that is pounding me away - forces me to use a song that says "I am crazy".

Speaking of songs - if anyone out there can help me with this I sure would appreciate it. Occasionally a song will come on the radio that says something like "the things inside the zoo". I have no idea what the name of the song is - or who it's by but everytime I hear it the Hendrix in me comes alive and I am playing layer after layer of Hendrix type riffs along with the song. It is the perfect song as background music and I get so into plugging my own stuff in that the only part of the song I ever hear is something like "the things inside the zoo".

BTW - fear not my friends - I go into autopilot mode on the interstate so the crucial aspects of maintaining safety are still intact.

Maybe U2 -
Here's a book written about U2 with that title:

It may be - but I think it's another band. The main thing about this song is the guitar - very electric - resonates - and a strong wha wha sound.

Thanks though - appreciate it.

Hi, Steady,

About your favorite meal... What a beautiful piece... I just love how you were able to express all those feelings and body language going on at the time with Niki!!! I just loved it! Thanks for sharing with us, and you are right, makes us get our minds off this TSP thing:cool:... ;)

Steady,

Thanks for this glimpe into your personal life. There is significant meaning in your experience. A gift to all of us.

Peace, :)

Thank you my friend. Peace and blessings to you as well. I am but a simple man that is no better (and no worse) than anyone else. You impress me with your insight into the deeper truths. I strive to be as open and transparent as possible and stretch my heart for those I can. Indeed, if we allow ourselves to honestly and completely except one another and consistently show them the most genuine love and respect - we will have a very fulfilled life. Psychiatry is the perfect fit for me. 90% of my work is simply "making a connection" - stretching my heart to the point that I honestly identify with their emotions, confusion, pain, sorrow .... and once I make that connection the rest is easy.

Thank you Tom,
This site has been wonderful for me. I appreciate your occasional plugs related to your involvement in your children's activities and your wife. You have your priorities in order and that's what really counts. You have also been directly involved with some of my better gains, by stressing the high seasonality of a particular day. This site allows me to have a diversion I really enjoy. I can return to "the most wonderful days of my youth" totally caught up in the spirit of Jimi Hendrix - and float away in my dreams.

Anyway I feel you deserve the ultimate Thanks for making this site available. Thanks for your story as well.

Thank you Christopher and welcome aboard. I sincerely appreciate your feedback and encouragement.

Bold as Love... not much dissonance but still has a lot of feel in the song. One of my Hendrix faves.

An excellent album as well, which shows how diverse he truely was. Most of today's CDs are remastered to give the Electric Ladyland studio sound - but to me Electric Ladyland was one of his very best because he designed it with his own studio and that was so far beyond anything else ever known at that time. Listening with a set of good quality headphones all the more brought this out.

Thank you my sweet, you are very precious.
My children largely live out my deepest inner dreams and desires. Sarah, my firstborn, is a lot like you. She is very gifted with languages and has used this talent to be a huge blessing for others. Spanish is what got her hooked and has remained the one most dominately used in her endeavor to bridge the gaps; but other languages have also been obtained. She is in her last year of college and is finishing her first teaching position - at a very challenging school with a large hispanic population. She has an incredibly big heart and has little because she is so determined to give whatever she can.

Anyway, I sincerely appreciate your feedback, and I'm glad it did what it was intended to do (spread a little joy)

BTW - The I Fund is a worthy player which has brought wonderful rewards. It may take a hit occasionally but it has more than made up for it in the gains it's provided. I'd say you won't go wrong holding on a little while longer.

Steadygain,

You are one enlightened fellow! I enjoy reading your posts every day. You're one of my favorites.

I'm new here to TSPtalk (found this site in July) and to the stock market in general. I'm trying to learn as much as I can and this site is full of great information.

I just want to say thanks to the whole TSPtalk family for having such a great place for all of us newbies to get started in trying to understand  the compexities of the stockmarket and how to be proactive in our tsp accounts.

You guys do a great job, thanks for sharing your knowledge.:)

Dude, you got style! Enjoyed reading about your favorite meal also. ;)

My sincerest thanks! A big part of me thought everyone's going to think you're an idiot sharing this stuff but the bigger part of me felt it's worth the effort. Anyway, I'm happy for all who enjoyed it.

Thank you - I am deeply honored :)

Welcome aboard and it's equally wonderful for us to have you. I would agree that the knowledge from many on this site is quite impressive. The best thing you can do is draw from various ones that seem to have a solid grasp of how the TSP Funds perform from month to month (or season to season) and ultimately come up with your own style. My gains may be smaller than some, but overall my style is great for me and to date I've never lost in any quarter. These consecutive gains have been very profitable.

The Wonderfull World of I Fund. Others can say whatever they want, and often the charts and data will make it seem like the S Fund or C Fund is the place to be. But I'm looking for some substantial consistency, something I can hang my hat on and come out ahead. The I Fund is often up when the USM is down and has more than given consistently high gains whenever the USM takes off. So for the better (or for the worse) I will remain faithful to my I Fund commitment. I may transfer briefly to G or F - but most of this month will stay where I am.
