Playing the I fund

rym2001,

You're welcome.

I don't want to sound too anal but I'm still tweaking my I fund calculator. I think it's possible to get it very close. Today for example, I had the I fund at .115% while MSCI had it at .123%.

My big question right now, for anybody on the forum, is whether TSP uses whole figures for the prices such as $20.98, or is it something like $20.9832456. And when MSCI calculates the gain for the I fund to be .123%, did we get exactly 3 or was it more like 2.8765 or 2.56452 +20.984325?

It is not whole numbers. They are using fractions in their values and that is why we sometimes get numbers that are one penny off.

An update on the I fund price. The TSP website says that each fund has some administrative expenses. In 2005, the I Fund's administrative expenses were 0.05%. I don't know when they take that out of the price of the fund. I've got the I fund price from June 2, 2003 and calculated the I fund price every day by matching each day to the MSCI EAFE movement for that day. Then I tweaked the June 2nd, 2003 I fund price until I could get my calculated prices to match up to the actual prices from the past few months. The latest I fund price of 21.01 is calculated to be:

21.0081396331302

I hope that helps the people looking for specifics.

Nice work! This might be the final piece of the puzzle.:) Thank you.

The official opening exchange rate for the Chinese yuan was set at a record high against the U.S. dollar on Monday and a top official pledged more progress on loosening currency controls.

Do not be surprised if Nikkei puts in a retest of 15,000 real soon, it could do it in one week. That would clear the boards. Then 20,000 is in view.

Where are we right now with respect to FV??

Since the last time I posted data thru the 18th, below is what my data in csv format is showing which is basically no FV (or FV adj) since Oct 13-- FV is in the far right field after the last comma.

The FV calculated is something that someone else has brought up. I think I'm seeing that there is no "carry-over" of previous increments of less than 1. Looks to me like they must "start fresh" in their calculations every day. Maybe the fractions are important when they are calulating the return adjustment after they have given an FV, don't know. (My round down formula includes using a criteria when to round down that I arbitrarily picked after looking at previous data, if you want to know more, let me know.)

Ball park estimate: Local currency -0.765%, the dollar is about even so the USD price should be about -0.765% for a loss of about 16 cents to around $20.85

I hope no one sought refuge in the I fund, after the drop in the S fund Friday. Two drops like that in a row would be painful.

MSCI is showing the LC at -0.714%, dollar lower at 0.089% and the USD -0.625% for a loss of 13 cents to $20.88

CommTech is the closest.
