oleg850's Account Talk

Oleg,

I'm learning a LOT from watching your trades, and making ( and losing !) my money in real time ! :) Nothing like real-world experience to get your attention !!! I'm sticking with your advice to make these moves with a SMALL amount of my total portfolio...

So one question about "trading around a position" : Is the "position" based on the number of shares at the original buy-in, or some dollar value of the shares, then and now ? I think the position is based on number of shares...so for example...if my original buy-in is 1,000 shares, and you trade 25%, that's 250 shares bought or sold...do I have that right ???

Stoplight...

Correct, the position sizing is based on # of shares, not their averaged price. Don't have the time to figure all that out with work. Plus, it pays to keep things simple.

Gold looks like it wanna keep going lower. I was hoping for 1270 to sell NUGT looks like a long way away

NUGT has been great for day trading lately. Like I posted earlier, if you want to mitigate the losses with swing trades, you have to trade around the position. If it was as easy as buying once and holding for 20-30% gain, everyone would be raking in the dough!

For those with a higher risk appetite, check out SFXE. It is a groundbreaking stock into the EDM industry. I am long from $9, holding for at least. $13. Note of caution, this thing is new and volatile, but has great upside potential, IMHO. Small position sizing goes without saying.

Understood, just saying though.

SFXE up 10% since my post today at 2:00pm CT!

System Update:

Indicator and Trending Systems both remain in CASH. Indicator System has been flirting with going LONG the last few days, but no cigar. If the week finishes in the green, the Trending System will go LONG COB Friday.

System Update:

As previously stipulated, the Trending System will go long the SPY/IWM COB. I am going to wait to take a position as I'm not a fan of chasing prices higher. With all the bullish sentiment out there, I wouldn't be surprised to see some profit taking next week.

I am already plenty long via some other strategies and individuals stocks, so not concerned about missing out on the ramp up.

The Indicator System is a coin flip at this point, if it flips Long as well, I will report after the close.

I have been in the process of refining the Indicator system for more shorter term trades. I plan to implement the changes in the next couple of weeks, as well as post stats YTD and since "going live" in Sept.

I will also be doing a post on a macro strategy for 2014, which will use index funds to DCA into a long term hold portfolio. I think 2014 will be a good trading year and will provide great gradual entry opportunities for the long haul. I'm sure those of you that did not have a buy and hold portfolio thus far have felt the pain in 2013 watching the buy n holders run away with the prize. Hopefully this year has taught people that such a portfolio is necessary and can be very rewarding (and relatively care free) to one's returns.

Hope everyone has a pleasant weekend!

System Update:

Just an FYI, the Indicator System did give a BUY on Friday, but I decided not to post because I am still in the process of implementing the changes I previously alluded to. I figured it prudent to sit in CASH until the New Year and start fresh with the "upgraded" system January 1. I will continue to post the un-modified system signals for those that are following, but I am personally not opening any new positions until 2014.

Trending System remains LONG.

Wishing everyone a happy holiday week!

System Update:

Both Indicator and Trending Systems remain LONG.

I remain in CASH in both system-dedicated accounts.
