nasa1974's retirement story

How does it feel to sleep in?

Before I retired I was up before 5am every work day. Now that I'm retired sleeping in is great.

I'm usually up between 6:30 and 7:00am. Yep no alarm clock and I'm up that early. But hey it's an extra hour and a half to two hours of sleep.

What the heck is a alarm clock? Muhahahahahaahaha! Retirement has so far been awesome (retired from NASA Dec. 2010)

I got a notice from OPM today. They are letting me know that my interimpayment next week will be different. The federal income tax withoding is different. I requested a larger amount to be taken out. I would rather get a little bit back then pay out the butt later. I can adust next year once I have a better handle on my income. I love the sign off, "It is our pleasure to serve you". Really!! It will be a pleasure to see my full retirement check next month. But I must say I really am enjoying retirement. Best Buy has increased my hours and I get to open some days. The nice thing is I can quit there anytime I want so it really isn't stressful. Have a great weekend everyone.

Nasa,

Glad to hear you are enjoying retirement, too !

I must admit...I'm a little confused about the above...are you saying OPM has FINALIZED your retirement calcs, and you'll be getting your full payment next month ? If so, I believe you've set a new record for the shortest wait :D

BTW...thanks, too, for the link to the GovExec article...I guess I'm at 67 days, of that "average" 156 days, so I still have a way to go...assuming I'm average, which somehow, I suspect I won't be !

NOPE!!! OPM has not finalized what my retirement check will look like. They are just taking out more taxes and made a minor adjustment to my take home.

Congrats on a long career and pending "freedom" skycophigh -- maybe next month you should change your TSPTalk handle to just plain old "Skyhigh"! Looking forward to hearing how things go for you as I'm not too far behind you.

Well I became eligible 7/14 and it just took me just only 2 1/2 weeks to submit retirement papers for last day aug 31! I cannot tolerate it anymore after 32 and a half years, it's scary what my interim pay will be but boy am I ready, the best is yet to come!

Best of luck barbarajean, I'm lovin' retirement after 2 years 7 months it's a Blast you'll love it toooo!

For all you new retirees - if you keep on with investing you'll find that you will be working harder than ever - but only in your pajamas. Now is the time to make your balances expand while you have the time to pay attention. Let your accumulated money make you even more money - don't get overly conservative and fear risk - let capitalism rule.

Thanks $$lake. I did have almost 4 years Air Force. But I paid that back years ago. The only thing that has posted to my credit union so far this month has been my interim check and no emails from OPM yet. I will have to logon to the OPM website and see if it says anything.

Here is the latest and greatest from OPM. I have been assigned to a specialist. The only thing left is "Case Finalized".

Nice post, Nasa !!! Thanks for keeping us up-to-date !

I'll have to figure out how to cut and paste MY data :) Some of my dates are earlier than yours, but I don't have a specialist assigned yet :(
