nasa1974's Account Talk

Hey all. Trying to catch up on everything. Just got back from a weeks R&R. Took the family on a weeks cruise through the Eastern Caribbean. Totally out of touch, no computer or phone for a week. It felt great. Just had to get something written because I didn't want to fall back to the 3rd page. :D Back on line tomorrow. Later!!!

Dang, I slipped to the second page again. Been busy getting my excel spreadsheet ready for 2011. If anybody wants a copy send me a PM with your E-mail and I will send it to you. I have Office 2007.

HO HO HO!! The oil companies just gave us our Christmas present. Gas just jumped over $3.00 a gallon. Hasn't been this high since 2008.

I know NOTHING about spreadsheets. I've played with a few but it just seems like too much work when after all is said and done I don't even understand the results. :o

What I want is a spreadsheet that does one thing. Tracks the fund prices of the TSP funds.

Is there a way to make Excel get that data without me having to copy and paste? And what happens to Sunday in the date column?

Then...after the data is in the spreadsheet I know there is a way to make a chart/graph of that data. Is there a way to add a simple moving average to that chart/graph?

Sitting at #141 on the tracker. If the market continues to go up I do not think I will break into the top 100. Not too many ahead of me are sitting in G or F. A lot of folks 100% S fund. It has been an interesting year so far. I have been as high as #57 and as low as #342. So I guess #141 is middle ground.

Heading into the last week of trading for 2010, good luck everyone.

Only here a half day. The weekend will be busy so not sure how often I will be online. So with that said.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you and your family and friends.

Markets closed and there was a little bit of a pull back. Could have been worse. Let's hope for a strong finish next week. Have a great weekend everybody. Be safe.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas. Monday I made.16% and yesterday I was down .10%. So I am just a bit ahead for the week. Sure hope the market closes on the positive side for the rest of the week. Good luck everybody.

Here is some interesting reading from our FRTIB.

Below is a link to an excerpt from the Federal Register announcing a final Agency rule.
  • 5 CFR Parts 1600, 1604, 1651, and 1690; Employee Contribution Elections and Contribution Allocations, Uniformed Services Accounts, Death Benefits, and Thrift Savings Plan.
    • These regulations relate to the implementation of the Agency's beneficiary participant accounts as authorized by the Thrift Savings Plan Enhancement Act of 2009, Public Law 111-31.
    • The effective date of this regulation is December 20, 2010.

Not sure what I really want to do about January yet. But looking at the past 10 year returns for January (courtesy of GovExec.com) I'm hedging towards the lilly pad. Below is the returns for January.

Sorry NASA, 10 years of stats don't reflect the truth. January has greater odds of being positive than negative. If you can, pick up a copy of the latest traders almanac, it's a great read, well worth the investment for folks who like to side with statistics.

Since 1945 January has been the fifth best month for the market. Don't look for stock market sentiment to be a barrier to further gains.
