nasa1974's Account Talk

Wow!!! I fell all the way down to page 3.

YIPEE!!!!!! I made money today. At least one day of euphoria before reality hits next week.

So NASA, how is the TSP in retirement working? Did you xfr some/most to IRA? Leave it all in TSP? Taking equal amounts out? I will be retiring in the next few years, and am thinking about moving to Vanguard Funds. Any advice?

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but what's the lure of Vanguard? Don't they just want you to buy and hold a diversified portfolio of stocks and bonds? Can't you do that with the TSP with less hassle and fees?

The low expense ratios of many of the Vanguard funds are attractive for those that are able to fund annual IRAs or taxable accounts, once the annual TSP contribution has been maxed out.

I thought there were restrictions on a regular IRA if you had access to an employer provided retirement plan. Roth IRA's are only limited by you AGI. Anyone know how a regular IRA is limited if you max out your TSP?

I have stayed pretty much high risk in my TSP account. I haven't moved anything out of it. Did very well last year but taking a beating so far this year. It comes down to personal needs. I retired CSRS so my TSP account wasn't part of my retirement package. So I felt that I could be a little more aggressive. The noon deadline and 2 IFT's a month are still very restrictive. I'm hoping not to touch my TSP until that magic 70 number. All I can say is check out where ever you want to put your money and see want kind of control you have. Good luck

Well today is looking good so far. I hope the market doesn't get to squirrelley for the next week or two. I forgot my stupid password for TSP and they have to snail mail me a new one. How can these bozo's still work in the "Dark Ages" and can't e-mail you a new one right away just like every other major business. We can change our fund accounts on-line but not our password. How screwed up is that. I know I'm preaching to the choir.

I lost my password, also. Luckily, my 13-digit account number was good enough to do an IFT for my successful double-pattern entry last Wednesday (S-fund +0.85%). :)

Ok, so on the 15th I requested via E-mail my new password from TSP. The response was it would take 2 days to process and up to 10 days to get it via snail mail. Well to my surprise it showed up this afternoon in our mailbox. Now if I need or want to I can do an IFT. :D

I've been sitting 100% in the "S" fund for awhile and smack in the middle of the pack. July kicked my butt and August has given most of it back. I just might make a move today or tomorrow to try and save what I have, 3.66% MTD and 5.28% YTD. Hope to ride the wave in September. Good luck everyone.

Here are the latest monthly numbers from Govexec.com. I am going to have to update all my monthly word files. I noticed awhile ago that Govexec has gone back to 1988 for the "GF&C" funds. So I will have to start getting my files corrected. September can be fickle so good luck.

Well I made a move. I think this is the first IFT I have made in a year. 15% (CSI) and 55% in (G). Wanted to keep a little bit in just in case the market keeps going up. Won't loose to much if it goes down. Right now my plan is to get back in Friday so I still have 2 IFT's (if I need them) for September. Good luck everyone.

Moved 100% G Fund today with your toughts exactly. 9 maybe 10 up days in the S Fund; I'll get out for a day or two but will be back s Fund by Friday to have 2 IFT in September.

The most bullish thing a market can do is go up and this tape is exemplifying the truth in that phrase. This rally is so steep that it defies gravity's laws.

True. But at some point you expect the market to take a short breather. I'm hoping for the next few days. I just figured I got slammed last month so why not lock in some profit for this month. September may be a different story, very good or very bad. I'm hoping for the first one. :D
