nasa1974's Account Talk

This is an interesting read. A follow up from the warning earlier in the year and the reason we are all changing our passwords.

"Thrift Savings Plan officials went into damage control mode in February when a stranger appropriated the TSP trademark and propped up a fake federal retirement fund website for a phishing scheme. Internal emails reveal that officials government wide struggled for two weeks to positively identify the perpetrator.
It turned out the bogus email campaign was innocuous -- part of an Army cybersecurity training exercise. But nobody bothered to tell TSP. Now the agency is buying brand management software and changing password requirements to make sure friends or foes don't do this again...."

What do you think would happen to the TSP if EVERYONE could join? View attachment 28635View attachment 28637View attachment 28638
The Government would do exactly like with SS and borrow against it until it wasn't building enough compounding interest to self perpetuate itself. So far the law forces them to repay it back after the next budget is signed but seeing a lot of money to use they would change it and use it for more than a short term pay gap.

I think that's a pretty spot on analysis.

The government already writes IOUs to the G Fund. It means they would just write BIGGER IOUs.

Wow it's been over a month since I posted in my account. The new job has been time consuming, that and the fact it took them 5 weeks to get me a computer. Anyway, this is a bit late but here are the July numbers. Last year was pretty good and then August tanked. Still 100% S fund. Good luck.

New job? I do try to keep up but what did I miss? People born when we were deserve to no longer work. Unfortunately that ain't me just yet. Thanks for all you inputs.

Thanks JTH. I usually try to get this out mid month. I'm not good at charting like some people but if I take my time I can throw some stuff together. Govexec.com supplies the information I just break it down by month.

Thanks PO. I did post a little information in my retirement thread. A friend of mine said I failed retirement. :D
What happened was a friend of mine from NASA called mid April and said the company he works for was looking for a construction manager with high voltage experience and wanted to know if I was interested. I told him I would think about it. I went in for an interview and the prime and the sub argued over who wanted me and what I would do for them. It really wasn't an interview more like you work for me and this I what we can offer. They sent me an offer sheet and it was like you want to pay me this much. Yeah I'll come work for you. So I guess I did fail retirement.

Obama will welcome your extra income - find a way to keep it from him.

Thanks BT. Meeting with the wifes financial advisor tomorrow. Looking to add a little to here IRA. Will have to start looking into some stock options. Some will be set aside for vacations.:D
