Are You Afraid of Outliving Your Money? - Retirement Planning - Pay & Benefits - GovExec.com

"One of the concerns I hear in my seminars over and over again is not having enough money to live on in retirement. During the first part of my seminars, we discuss the value of the government retirement benefit under either the Civil Service Retirement System or the Federal Employees Retirement System, and then most people feel somewhat better—especially the people who didn’t know they had a government retirement benefit."

I feel very blessed to have the pension our government gives us. So many people are defendant solely on savings. Yes, you can do better on your own but you can do worse too. I wouldn't trade my FERS pension for anything. I'm glad I have TSP too but my pension is my peace of kind that I will never have to worry about running out of money.

The pension that FAA employees, and the like, have is all the more sweet. 1.7% on the first 20 years. Nice benefit, if you can get it.

This won't last for long, but I have posted more than Norm. :D:D:D

It's a tradition of mine, relaxes my mind, just me, the cool water and classic rock music! Oh and the drinks!

Well the "S" fund gave back what it took away yesterday. Now I just need to make up about 2.2% to get back to zero for the month. Well I can dream can't I??? :cheesy:

Here are the numbers for August courtesy of Govexec.com.

Historically August hasn't been a good month for the "C" and "I" funds since 2000. However, the "S" fund has done alright. Since 2000 the "F" fund has outperformed all the funds. But three out of the last four Augusts have been really bad for the CS&I funds loosing about 10% since 2010.

Good luck all.
