House passes government funding bill for three more weeks
By Humberto Sanchez National Journal March 15, 2011

"The House on Tuesday passed a stopgap funding bill that would cut $6 billion from current discretionary spending levels and keep the government operating through April 8. The House action comes as pressure increases on House Republicans, Senate Democrats and the White House to find a compromise on spending for the rest of the fiscal year..."

From Nextgov: Defense blocks access to 13 websites to conserve bandwidth for Japan

Yup, got the email yesterday morning. Hasn't affected me yet, but I am sure some not having ESPN is killing some folks ;)

Government would save billions by capping pay, CBO says

Hmmm, not sure on this one. Even though I agree to some extent with caps, now that the military/civilian pay gap is negligible, I am not sure why the CBO thought to use 0.5 less vice even with the ECI... I am sure there is some reason (more so than just saving money).

Thoughts?

The first group of Peace Corps volunteers departed for Ghana and Tanzania later that year. PLANETS OF THE CARRIBEAN: If you haven't looked at the sunset this week, look! Jupiter and Mercury are beaming side-by-side through the evening twilight. Last night in Puerto Rico, amateur astronomer Eddie Irizarry took a picture which he calls Planets of the Caribbean:
"We have been treated to exquisite sunsets this week," says Irizarry. "Jupiter and Mercury looked great and grabbed the attention of even casual observers."
The evening of March 17th is a particularly good time to look, because you can watch Mercury while NASA's MESSENGER probe goes into orbit around the innermost planet--a historic first. Get the full story from Science@NASA.

This is a very emotional market right now and any rumor of a Japan meltdown is reflected immediately - thus the give back in the SPX. The Dow most likely close down 200 points on the day.

GE at $19.50 is an excellent purchase for the longer term especially when they consider dividend increases. No better way to participate in the global economy.

It will be when it bottoms. I have to admire your perma bull attitude but when the market is finally doing what markets do when manipulation can not compete with real facts, I can't help but think that even a blind squirrel (squirrel!! - pause, pause) finds a nut once in awhile. Yes the market will go up, but not until the damage assessment is in and that has not happened yet.

I come here to learn and get educated opinion, not optimistic platitudes. And although there is less and less educational information available due to so many selling their knowledge and leaving the sharing atmosphere that built this amazing website, I still come here to learn because its a dynamic membership. For every person who takes their ball and leaves, there are new people coming on who are willing to share an insight that open the knowledge base up. I appreciate this sharing dynamic where real knowledge for the joy of discovery and control of our retirement is freely and, it some cases, entertainingly shared.

Thanks NASA1974 for sharing. Your thread is one of my must reads. Sorry for the brief hijack.

G.L. everyone
