Hey all .....thanks for your concerns and offers......we have water and I have found out that I will have power soon.....I live in Mobile.....my office is at Keesler though....but I heard we made it through the thick and thin......we will be operational and I should be back a work in a week or so......

We are taking on refugees.....hey all we just got power!!!!! My son came in and then the lights came on!!!!Yeahhhhh no more camping out.....!!!!! Still the yard is in bad shape as you can imaging with all the pine trees I have....but my horses are in fine shape.......

Gotta tell the wife the power is on she is working 16 hour days as anemergency room nurse....she's worth her weight in gold to people in the medical industry....they just don't know it yet.......

Looks like they will make Mobile a forward point to handling the coasts situation......I'm sure we will be in tough circumstances for a while.....makes me want to become a contractor.....I will be in contact...so ya'll give it your all, whereever you are,.... to the ones who need it the most down towards Biloxi, Gulport to New Orleans....I'm Okay...(just fearing what the cost of gas will be next week)

Have a good day all....I just did.....by the way, I had my birthday yesterday.....never had one like that before....

:dude:

Yeap...rode her until she quit bucking......never seen Camille do like this......just happens that I rode Camille out on the river just off the bay...water came up 15 feet....Katrina....took so long to come in it had a chance to build up surge......our office never got flooded...amazing since we're on Keesler AFB right off the water.....our mission has been postponed for a while I heard.....looks like we're going to be assisting in the aftermath in some form or another....

I was most amazed on how long this hurricane blew.....it was powerful and longterm.....that was what tore the heart out of everything....the length of time it took to clear out of the area....

Looks like the gas situation is temporary, I give it less than two weeks and then we have to see about oil imports down on the coast.....I understand the terminal have problems....

Can you believe that Katrina took out at least 6 cities in one swoop....worse than Hiroshima and Nagasaki.....it just flattened everything.....

I will be back tomorrow as usual....I firmly believe the situation has changed some....it not for the better unfortunately...

Some comments from a Tech:
The S&P 500 was the only major index to advance yesterday, and it not only maintained its position above its rising 50-day moving average and the neckline of the head and shoulders top, but it also managed to close above the downtrend line drawn from the high at 1245. One immediate goal that has not been met is a breakout above the uptrend line from the 1137.50 low reached in April. If that goal is met I expect there will be a test of the 1245 high.

With all of the activity of the past two weeks, the S&P 500 has managed to accumulate a 0.17% cumulative gain for pre-Labor Day holiday period. The 10-year average for the full period is a loss of 0.87%, but that is seriously skewed by a 9.9% loss in 1998. Without 1998, the average of the other nine years is an advance of 0.2%, very close to this year's performance to date.

Big Oil Spill Spotted Near Tanks on Miss.

Sep 02 1:34 PM US/Eastern

NEW ORLEANS

A huge oil spill was spotted near two storage tanks on the Mississippi River downstream from New Orleans, state officials said Friday.

The oil was seen in a flyover to the Venice area by the Department of Environmental Quality.

"Two tanks with the capacity of holding 2 million barrels appear to be leaking," the department said in a statement.

No further details were given.

A Bloomberg columnist recently said that the fate of N.O. land rests with those who issue and/or buy municiple bonds. It brings to mind arleast a couple of things: what about the bonds thatwere already bought from the issuers representing the local governing bodies and agencies there?

Let's say somebody has $5K tied up in a muni issued by the N.O. Port Authority? Or the airport? Or the water authority? Etc., etc.

Even tho the city's bond rating is "high yield", were most of those bonds insured? Many if most. are not since many, if not most, would consider muni bonds -- even "high yield" ones not very risky.

So, without revenues how will the bond holders get paid now? LHM

It would be interesting to see how Katerina affected the price of muni bonds there. It seems to me if someone wanted to make a charitable donation, purchasing a muni from N.O. land may be the way to go.

Has anybody had any trouble moving TSP funds as of Katrina....?

I saw during the storm that a NOAA becon measured a 46 foot wave south of Mobile....add a tidal surge of 25 feet, it could well have been 65 feet on shore or more in Biloxi.....like a tsunami!~!!

Found out my office will be out of commission for a while....I will be on admin leave until we get situated...Keesler is being shut down basically until something can be restored.....

I offered my help in any shape form or fashion....if I can get gas, food, waterthen I'm available

I missed the G fund one day....guess it just impossible to get it perfect on the day every time....or even better than 50% of the time....

Local State Representatives in Maine are asking the governor to temporarily lift the state fuel tax. This tax is at approximately twenty five cents a gallon. The cost fuel is now at $3.00 to $3.15 a gallon. Perhaps it will happen. Hmmmm. :? If it did happen perhaps other areas will do the same. The reason this was taken up is they have been getting a lot of calls from the people in the state.

I received my paycheck, but my contribution to TSP (and matching contribution) has not been put into my TSP account yet. Has anyone else not received their contribution in the TSP yet? I figure there will be a delay, just wondering if my problem is normal. I've seen announcements on TSP.gov about withdrawals, etc., but nothing about contributions into account being delayed.
