alevin's account talk

thanks! I grew it myself. First time for sunflowers. organic AND heirloom. 12ft tall. :D

walking around in my garden early morning or after work is peaceful calming activity. Kind of a Zen experience. I liked Birch's tin can idea, will try it if ever have problems, so far critters only eating the sunflower leaves, nothing else.

I remember from the C&E thread.
We grew sunflowers several years in a row. Was great. Very cheery.

well, I finally did it. Closed out my BAC checking, savings and HELOC today. Had moved nearly all funds out of the accounts already, just needed to focus on finalizing. I never used the line of credit after taking it out about 3 years ago. I had a reason at the time but then decided not to use it, let it sit as a hole card if needed for something else.

The end came this month when I got a notice in the mail that they'd start charging me $15/month per account for the priviledge of keeping my checking and savings account open with balance less than $10K. Yeah right. The other non-punitive option they offered was if I actually took out loan of $10K or more on the HELOC. Yeah right-just for the priviledge of banking with them for a few pennies a month of interest and keeping loan options open? not happening. I'm ready to call that a deflation story, myself. anybody else?

As much as I like local credit unions, Ally Bank (ally.com)
Had, still has? No or very low fees, and interest bearing checking standard if a bank is your thing.
Congrats on leaving "Bleed Out America"

I read your BAC story with interest (no pun intended). BAC was the bank that raised my credit card interest rate even though we had great credit and no late payments. So I closed the account. Then Zions Bank started piling service charges on top of each other. The end of my Zions account was when they figured three different ways to charge me for my electronic bill paying.

I have one account now and it is with a credit union. You know ... the people who are "us" instead of "them." :)

I converted 95% of my debt to my margin account - now at least I get a deduction of the interest until Obama finds out.

Maher's message is pretty effective talking about the big banks and their behavior. wish more people understood what's been happening. I'm thinking of diversifying a little more. I have savings account at local cu-savings cu only, checking at a regional, but thinking about adding another checking acct at local community bank for diversity's sake. I keep thinking about the S&L thing years ago, back when I hardly knew what an S&L was. I just remember at the time I was glad I didn't have an account with one-didn't know what went wrong or why. They limited withdrawals from the S&Ls during the crisis.

I keep thinking what if I only have one checking accout at one bank and withdrawals get limited. If I have 2 checking accounts at 2 different banks-and crisis like that hit, I could draw max amount from each unconnected account-if I needed the funds, instead of hitting the cap on just the one before being able to pay the months bills. Just trying to think ahead to the what ifs. (which is why I kept small amounts of $ at the BAC acct and didn't close it out after I moved my primary biz to the regional bank). Until I was ready to decide where to open another checking account-bank safety ratings in my community are pretty thin-except for the regional bank and my CU.

Looks like it matches up well to me. And that's good because I'm all in and sweating it. Made some pretty good interest but feel like I've worked for every dollar. :cheesy: If you dip a toe in, welcome to the party!

Good article on long cycles from Cliff Droke. Birchie will like it, hang tough til 2012, then all bets off.

There’s a wealth of wisdom to be found in ancient Chinese proverbs. Not uncommonly one can find answers to the most complex problems today by reading the simple yet elegant epigrams found in any collection of ancient sayings.

One of the themes that runs like a thread in any book of Chinese proverbs is the honor the Chinese confer to the elderly. One such proverb advises anyone who is considering a new venture to “consult at least there older people before proceeding, then you will succeed.” Another one puts it much more succinctly: “The elderly: a national treasure.”

This is beautiful Alevie -- Thanks for sharing this!!

The core of Yoga - The deepest basis of understanding the Elements and the 'Balance Needed' - AccuPuncture - and thousands of other aspects by which our appreciation of LIFE and our place in this world and with each other could be immensely enlightened and enhanced.

Here I would equally include the Beliefs and subsequent 'customs' of the Native Americans -- if only we had taken the effort to learn from them.

Good Morning -- Sugar Bee -- bzzzzzz bzzzzzzzz

Hope the house was warm and cozy yesterday and everything went well.

Reflecting back on the 'cycles' -- I've got to admit that a lot of them have enormous validity and a few especially stand so strong over hundreds of years that no one could argue with how perfectly they have matched.

I don't know if things are 'changing' and playing out the way they are meant to -- or whether we simply rose so fast and so high that we actually believed nothing could hurt us -- no matter what we did.

It seems to me that history will run it's course and trends in the Global Economy are more the aspects to weigh in on.

Well just stopping by to say hi.

A way to honor the friends I've made here.

Your friends are those that get to know the person deep inside - the values you share and the characteristics that most define you. Here I would say the 'sacred aspects' by which you maintain your uniqueness.

Your friends are those strong enough to stand true - no matter what 'clicks' are formed - no matter who you choose to be friends with.

Your truest friends let you -- be you -- and are the last ones to force their expectations upon you - they are the ones that stand with you no matter where you stand - no matter what you do - because they alone know the integrity and worth that no one can take.

Your deepest friends know who you belong to - and that His Grace and Glory are far beyond anything any of us could ever come close to.

Friends are real - and they are friends forever !!

Hey Alevie, I thought about this driving home just recently ...

....and I'm really surprized I hadn't thought of it before.

OK -- Here's my thought. If a person (and here I mean any person - anywhere - no matter what their culture, religion, gender, and however we have some distinguishing characteristics ....)

Any person .... that is in a room that they are 100% Confident - they are wholly convinced their 'privacy' will remain private....

...if they are in a room that has a bunch of 'peep holes' scattered on the walls -- every wall....

...if that person 'peeps' into a highly emotionally charged event ...

that is the KEY my dear .... any event that is emotionally charged...

...it could be horrible -- or it could be heavenly ....

I would bet that would be the most 'addictive habit' possible and that any person -- no matter who -- would immediately dismiss the 'boring and insignificant peep holes' -- and stick only with the 'highly charged ones'.

So that's one of my recent 'light bulb' thoughts ...

What do you thnk ??
