Zebra's Story

Just checked online and there is a pending US Treasury deposit for the same amount I have been getting since Feb 1, so that means it will be at least 8 months before OPM gets things finalized.

Well I actually talked to a live person at OPM today. Explained to her I retire Dec 2010 and I wanted to learn how much longer it would be before they worked my case. She said to me, " there are approximately 5000 cases ahead of mine, expect another 1.5 to 2 months before they actually get to my retirement package! Unbelieveable isn't it?

Anyway for those who have plans to retire soon, be prepared!! brookmd and I were prepared, I was, but it was due to this forum!!!!!!!!!! More news to follow.

WOW! Looking at 10 Months! They really had a run on retirements when they cut pay raises and talked about down grades in the retirement system.

YEAH!!! Got my password today. Was able to log on to OPM and find out that my check on Sept 1 will be the same amount
that I have been getting since day one. BOOOOO!!!

Also got a letter from OPM responding to my query from back when I was going through the retirement process. After high
school (1966), I had 2 civil service jobs before I joined the Air Force in late 1967. Since I was under the FERS system when
I retired from USPS, I asked what I would have to do to add the 15 months of CSRS time. They said if I make a deposit of
$535, they will give me $51/mo more. Seems pretty clear and simple to me. Going to send them a check tomorrow.

So, I guess that pending adjustment is why I'll get another partial annuity on Sept 1. Who knows, maybe by Christmas it
will all be straight. Hang in there Z. Made it this far, what's another 8 months. lol One thing for sure, at least for me,
it beats working in the Post Office and that 110 mile daily commute.

Ok, look at brookmd, he and I retired the same date, he has his package from OPM and the almight website password; I don't. OPM, just a bunch of lying bastards.

Oops, sorry Zebra. I was an idiot and didn't look to see who posted, it was your thread after all. I hope you get your info soon !!!

Well well, guess what was in my mailbox today? Yes you are right, my secret OPM Serviceonline temporary password! brookmd, I too will receive in Sept another partial payment it stated. Anyway the life OPM person obvioiusly did not have my case package, because she said it would be a month or two; at least I am now able to change the routing, mailing address, taxes etc myself. I am happier!

Hopefully she is aware of your time frame and continue to process your real pay.

Yeah, I was disappointed when I logged in that I wasn't able to see how much they are taking out for FEHP. Oh well all in due time I guess. At least we are making some progress.

It is my understanding (but I could be wrong) that NO FEHP deductions are made during the time OPM is adjudicating your retirement and you are receiving a reduced annunity, however you are covered. Once that is done, you are back billed for what should have been deducted monthly along the way. This back billing also as I undestand applies to any additional vision/dental coverage you are carrying.

Now ain't that special.

You are correct. As OPM just completed my retirement.....health insurance premiums are not taken during the interim but payed once they complete the process.

As for eye/dental, they do not take the payment either, however, you are billed directly by the eye/dental company directly during the interim period.

Hope this helps.

Anyone have any idea of the total of the average amount of back billed costs? It seems to me that it could be quite abit.

Got my temp. password today but, still not able to log on. As I understand it you have to add an A in front of your CSD number and a O at the end of the number. Or could it be I have to wait for the second mailing of the password for OPM to get it right? Later, Vol46

vol46--You should have gotten something with your case number on it. Check all your documentation and letters from OPM.

lochaven/Elgallo--If you keep your FEHP they WILL deduct it from your pay from day one. At least they did for me. As for the Eye/Dental plans, I originally received letters from OPM or somebody that I would continue to
receive the benefit but they would NOT deduct for it until my retirement was finalized, at which time they would collect the past due amount. But I have been getting bills from both since I retired.

yes you are correct vol36, you should had received sometime ago from OPM a letter with your OPM CASE Claim Number. Mine looks something like this, it is printed on the card they sent: Claim No CSA X xxxxxx x. When I got my pin number I did have to use the A in from of the numbers to make it work. good luck hope this helped some.

brookmd, I just talked to a close friend who is retiring after 30 years with the FAA HQ Washington D.C.; he was briefed to expect up to one year after he retires before OPM settles his retirment. He did work for two different federal agencies, but he didn't think that was for the reason they briefed. He was under the impression that their is a flood of retirements this year and it is just plain backlog at OPM!

I guess we should not feel bad it is taking us up this point 8 months and no OPM finalization! NOT!!!!
