Zebra's Story

Thanks but I already did a one time withdrawal so I'm out of luck I guess, But if they make me withdraw and I get the money after taxes can I slip tht money in a ROTH?

That part is not directly addressed in the articles, probably a good question for the TSP board. Seems like that could be a real possibility tho. But now I am getting back to speculating....:suspicious:

I have a question for the recent folks that have retired. What did you decide to do with your TSP? I know there are a few options. I just haven't decided which way to go.

Mine is still there, untouched. Of course my wife is a few years younger and still working as an RN plus she is an LtCol in Louisiana ANG.

And for you Z, I do most of the house work since my wife is still working. Don't mind though as she is a far better supervisor than I ever had in the USPS. And I also get confused some days as to what day of the week it is. Usually on Saturdays when I wake up and wife is still home. lol

Geaux Tigers!!

It is hard to believe I have been retired for a year! The fastest and BEST ever year had to date! I am truly blessed and TSP part of that!

Wow, congrates you earned it. I can't wait until I do. Have another great day!

Champion Tide

Congrats Z. Obviously Sabin out coached Miles and Miles proved he is an idiot. When your qb is totally ineffective maybe you should give the other guy who qb'd the first 6 wins of the season a chance. Lost all respect for Miles the way he treated Lee the last half of the season. Wish I had a bar in the French Quarter tonite.

congrats to all you retired bums and bummettes... hee hee! i hear you all talking about SS checks, you all must be FERS but i wonder if that is the case how did you all retire already? i started when i was 11 yrs old and have 2 more to go... hee hee

In my case I retired from the Air Force at the age of 39 with 20 years, worked 1 year as a service rep to the Air Force and then 22 years with USPS. I paid into SS since I was 16. Zebra is also retired AF before he worked with NASA. We retired the same day, Dec 31, 2010.

Miles went down similiar roads when he was the head coach of OSU

Retirement life is truly awesome! I did make a mistake this past year in that I didn't have enough Fed Taxes deducted from my TSP payments and ended up owning UNCLE Sam some, of course that 448 hours of Annual Leave payment hurt too, but this year I have just enough coming our of all my funds to be covered and I shouldn't have to pay the man anything this year.

Too much fun in this retirment life, my wife keeps saying "we get live good and money comes in every month on time and you didn't have to go to work"! She gave me a big pat on the back for retirement planning; she said "You did Good"!

Glad to hear things are going well. When I turned in my papers my W4 was set up for "single no deductions". Once everything settles down I can adust accordingly. The only thing that bothers me is state and local taxes. If I remember right I can go to OPM a few months after everytrhing is finalized and have them take out state taxes.

The State of Alabama only taxes my TSP monthly payments as military, civil service and social security are non taxable. It is all good, but I turn 65 in Oct and here comes another 115 bucks or so for medicare..........

Zebra,

I trust you are enjoying retirement. I am sure you said before but did you pay your military service deposit (buy back)?

I am looking at this again. I didn't consider it before interest would be due because "common knowledge" then was that if I did a "buy back" my annuity would stop. A couple years ago "common knowledge" became that the military annuity would not stop until the FERS (in my case) annuity began. I did some research and the latter appears to be true. Now the price for 24 years is high after 15 years.

Whatever about that "common knowledge". Just curious, did you pay the deposit and convert it all to GS-13 high three?

Let me answer for Zebra since we were both in the same boat, and apparently like me since he retired he doesn't get on here very often now. We both retired from the AF and didn't do a "buy back." Both of us are "triple-dippers" in that we draw SS, military retirement and fed retirement. And like Alabama, Louisiana does not tax any of it. Since my wife is still employed and also serves in the Louisiana Air National Guard, I don't have to tap into my TSP, so I don't pay a penny in state income tax.

Hey Z, I'm thinking about getting a small boat to use on the lake across the street from me. We are limited to a 5 hp motor, but I'm thinking something small enough for me and a trolling motor since you could call it a very large pond or a very small lake. lol At one time, the state record for large-mouth bass for a body of water it's size, came out of it.

And to echo Zebra, life after retirement is good. No, make that great.
