Thanks Lady, for Wagner's article. He provides some good basics for those of us who are still down a ways on the learning curve.--R
You're welcome!:) I liked the way that he drew the buy and sell signals, and related them to the MACD and other indicators. I'm still learning, too, and I thought that was very helpful.

Here's another one that I found helpful today. I always learn a lot from Carl Swenlin's stuff because he explains his charts well. But in this post, he also explained bullish and bearish divergences, and made a cautionary statement I hadn't heard before. The emphasis is mine.

"MAIL
Carl: Do divergences in the oscillators such as the OBV set or the ITBM(V) set have importance? Or are divergences in the PMO the only divergence that matter?

ANSWER: A bullish divergence is when the price index makes a lower bottom at the same time an indicator makes a higher bottom. A bearish divergence is when the price index makes a higher top at the same time an indicator makes a lower top.

In general, a divergence on any indicator qualifies for attention. More important to remember is that bearish divergences are less reliable predictors in a bull market, and bullish divergences are less reliable in a bear market.

We need something lighter today. I hope this helps:

Types of computer viruses

Adam and Eve virus: Takes a couple of bytes out of your Apple.

Airline virus: You're in Dallas, but your data is in Singapore.

Arnold Schwarzenegger virus: Terminates and stays resident. It'll be back.

AT&T virus: Every three minutes it tells you what great service you are getting.

The MCI virus: Every three minutes it reminds you that you're paying too much for the AT&T virus.

Bill Clinton virus: Promises to give equal time to all processes: 50% to poor, slow processes; 50% to middle-class processes, and 50% to rich ones. This virus protests your computer's involvement in other computer's affairs, even though it has been having one of its own for 12 years.

Congressional Virus: Overdraws your computer.

Dan Quayle virus: Prevents your system from spawning any child processes without joining into a binary network.

Dan Quayle virus: Simplye addse ane ee toe everye worde youe typee..

Elvis virus: Your computer gets fat, slow, and lazy and then self destructs, only to resurface at shopping malls and service stations across rural America.

Freudian virus: Your computer becomes obsessed with marrying its own motherboard.

Gallup virus: Sixty percent of the PCs infected will lose 38 percent of their data 14 percent of the time (plus or minus a 3.5 percent margin of error).

Mario Cuomo virus: It would be a great virus, but it refuses to run.

Michael Jackson virus: Hard to identify because it is constantly altering its appearance. This virus won't harm your PC, but it will trash your car.

New World Order virus: probably harmless, but it makes a lot of people really mad just thinking about it.

Nike virus: Just Does It!

Ollie North virus: Turns your printer into a document shredder.

Oprah Winfrey virus: Your 200MB hard drive suddenly shrinks to 80MB, and then slowly expands back to 200MB.

Pat Buchanan virus: Shifts all your output to the extreme right of your screen.

Paul Revere virus: This revolutionary virus does not horse around. It warns you of impending hard disk attack---once if by LAN, twice if by C:.

PBS virus: Your PC stops every few minutes to ask for money.

Politically correct virus: Never calls itself a "virus", but instead refers to itself as an "electronic microorganism".

Richard Nixon virus: Also known as the "Tricky Dick Virus", you can wipe it out but it always makes a comeback.

Ross Perot virus: Activates every component in your system, just before the whole thing quits.

Ted Kennedy virus: Crashes your computer but denies it ever happened.

Ted Turner virus: Colorizes your monochrome monitor.

Texas virus: Makes sure that it's bigger than any other file.

Warren Commission virus: Won't allow you to open your files for 75 years.

Steady, Steady … you just won’t leave it alone, will you. Fine. I tried to do this quietly with private messages but you just keep picking at it. So I’ll say it again here in my home.

Thank you !! for bringing some peace to a long standing conflict. Lady, I have a very deep sense for those that are true and special and you have the most amazing gift I've ever heard of.

You also gave me an identity I'd never had before and that hugely changed my perspective on many aspects of life in general - including my own.

So most of my previous interactions with you were based on 2 primary aspects: 1) To not let the 'gem go dim' and 2) To take you to a place with no pain.

You're right - it was a crazy world and a huge misunderstanding - but I felt it was important to let you know that I highly valued your friendship and the numerous qualities that make you who you are.

Steady, you are a sparkling personality with a gift for words. But you won’t respect the boundaries that I need to put on relationships. When I asked you repeatedly by PM to bring your interactions into my comfort zone you responded either by saying that you were sorry and would do what I asked (but you didn’t), or you would basically tell me that you would do whatever you wanted to do.

I can’t make you do anything. I can’t control anyone’s actions but my own. So I chose to control my discomfort by doing the only thing that I can do, and that is to discontinue my interactions with you.

Understood - at long last - and highly respected. I am so sorry for the misunderstand. I thought you had wanted to end the PM World - which I have done with you and everyone else.

But I honestly believed you wanted to continue in the wide open world.

I'm really so sorry for the misunderstanding and I sincerely respect everything you express and feel.

Your diamond still sparkles, but not for me.

For everyone else on the MB, I sincerely and humbly apologize for the disharmony that this may bring to our interactions or to your day.

Lady

I finally got it - I PROMISE - you're a wonderful Lady and I'll leave you alone.

Steady

Lady,

Thanks for the links to some very interesting sites (reference your posts earlier today). I had seen them before but have never taken time to peruse them until now. Very interesting reading.

By way of introducing myself, I am new on the board but have followed many threads for the past few years. Your's is one of the threads that I have recently turned to for information and have edumicated :toung: myself because of it.

I am on the g bench waiting for a new low (not a lower low because I do think, at some point in the future, history will show that a new bull began last month) to make my entry. I am hopeful of a 780 buy in over the next few weeks. For now, 1 transfer left for the month and it is burning a hole in my pocket! I would love to make some money by going in tomorrow for wed morning. I like being in the markets at the beginning of the month because I can then use my first transfer to safety and have another to get back in, yet still run for the g when necessary. I'll see what happens overseas tonight before I make any decisions.

At any rate, to everyone out there, don't let the sarcasm and tough love on this site get you down. Whatever anyone says, we are all here trying to make money for/in our retirement (even Birch with his piles and pile of manure:toung:!!!)

Darn it, Steady, why did you have to be such a class act in that answer?! Maybe it's time for another "just one last chance" .... Shall we cry Pax and start over?

More humor for this humorless day. And - - please - - don't let the gender humor offend, okay?

"INSTALLING A HUSBAND

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as
* Romance 9.5 and
* Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs
such as

* NBA 5.0,
* NFL 3.0 and
* Golf Clubs 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system.

* Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed,

Desperate.

DEAR DESPERATE,

First, keep in mind,
* Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while * Husband 1.0 is an operating system.

Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme.HTML and try to download Tears 6.2 and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update.
* If that application works as designed, Husband1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer 6.1.
* Please note that Beer 6. 1 is a very bad program that will download the Gas and Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.)

In addition, please do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0-program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0.

Best wishes,
Tech Support"

Too funny! Birch put me in mind of Burt Bacharach earlier today. In his honor, I'm posting tonight in the Lounge.

Congrats to our new moderator. You'll make a fine one and I'll try to make life easier by trying to play nicely. ;)
