wwwtractor's Account Talk

What about the asbestos shingles they used on the siding of the older homes, what is the danger there, if any???

Unfortunately its the sig other who used to work as an industrial hygenist. I've never heard of asbestos shingles for siding...just roofing, insulation and floor tiles?

Usually the problems come up when you have to replace or remove - and dispose of said product, or someone decides to break it up, or someone buffs the flooring (here comes the dust!), or if said product starts to degrade. Homeowners aren't subject to a lot of the regulations for removal and disposal that businesses are - if you get a professional they are supposed to follow strict guidelines for removal - but DIY is Let the buyer beware depending on the extent of the problem.

BTW, found out when we really looked at our roof what was done about the old shingles (most likely with asbestos), we have a 3 layer roof. So I know what you mean about old houses.

SILVER
we flipped a house about 2 yrs. ago and had to replace the siding (asbestos) and take to the dump and let them know what they were and they would direct us on proper disposale. after I arrived they directed me to the rest of the dumping area. I heard like you that its the dust from asbestos. these were like ceramic tile, brittle and would break. we wore those masks most of the tiome just in case !!!

VA Back Pay

If you have worked for VA from 1995 to current and are under one of the following occupations, you need to take a close look at this email and attachment. This is a time sensitive issue and could result in some back pay.

RNs, Nurse Anesthetists, PAs, Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs), Pharmacists, Licensed Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Respiratory Therapists and over two dozen other specialized health care employees who work or worked on weekends and/or after 6 p.m. from September, 1995 to now.

F.Y.I.
Attached is an explanatory article which directs VA health care members to the website where they can file their claim safely and securely: www.VAbackpay.com .

Please be sure to embargo it until October 12 as that is when 150,000 postcards will be mailed by the Class Action Administrator.

Unless members file their claim before the deadline, they will be barred forever from any back pay and interest paid as a result of this case. The earlier they file their claim, the earlier they will receive their money. Moreover, it is our hope that the VA will now change its pay practices to include premium pay that the employee would have earned if he or she worked their regular shift instead of using "paid leave" or "leave with pay" (except Sunday pay which Congress barred from being paid in lieu of leave beginning in October,1997)

If you have specific questions, please send your response to Mr. Ira Lechner :iralechner@yahoo.com

Mr. Lechner is the attorney handling the case.

VA Back Pay

You cannot afford to delay filing your claim. You must file your claim form no later than February 9, 2010. If you file your claim too late, the Court has ordered that you will be forever prohibited from receiving any back pay and any interest from this case. The earlier you file your claim, the earlier you can receive your money.

Thank you, Tractor, for this information. I hope they got their cards into the mail yesterday, Holiday or no - cuz I sent my e-request in just now !
According to the directions, we aren't required to recall which shifts which week, we can just leave the boxes blank & our records will be pulled up to verify - which they would be doing anyway, No Doubt! I hope none of the checkers have vision problems, narcolepsy, or phobia's - any kind ! And those of us with the extra common names don't get confused w/the rest of the crowd - like happens at the cleaners, the dentists, Medicare, etc...

Federal Reserve Board

The Federal Reserve Board and the Federal Open Market Committee on Wednesday released the attached minutes of the Committee meeting held on September 22-23, 2009.

See delicious.

Tractor -- I appreciate your thoughtfulness

I rarely ever acknowledge the extra hours I work .... just part of my job... and I like keeping busy...

If I ever did say something... they just gave me a few hours to take off ....

BUT this is BIG for those that can get it.

THANK YOU !!

Internet Shut Down Possible

A Senate bill (S.773) if passed would give the President of the United States the authority to declare a “cyber emergency” and close down the Internet by disconnecting users.

Looks like we need to flood the Senate with opposition calls and emails to this bill! Thanks for the post!

Yes - thanx for the info - I've sent it on to my buddies -
You know, at the 9/11 horror, I was willing to give a freedom or two, thinking it might help catch those guys, but considering that the appointed criminal-type Czars will be in charge, and that the anti-terrorist funding is gone (including even the title `terrorist' I have definately done a big turn-around. In reality - I did that on Nov 2008 Black Tuesday.

Geesh!, is this reactive, or proactive, or what? (comment on his admin in general withheld). All's seen H1N1 coming for over half a year and very little vaccine!
Re: my sister's family, in So. PA - they're just getting over it, but its now widespread there (and heading my way - south)! I've heard PA is 21st in State's standings, so I'm sure other areas, same thing - little vaccine and spreading like wildfire.
Why shouldn't "they" be able to see ALL things that the US is faced with, and do the right thing - be proactive!
Sorry for the rant, tractor.

Rant away, except the "They" this time are the suppliers, who made promises of delivery, and realized only later they lacked enough of the specialty equipment, testing, etc., and that they had over-estimated how much vaccine would be produced per chicken egg- oh and they didn't say anything until this month. It's hardly going to work if someone promises you more than double what's delivered. It would have been better to *under* estimate. So now, guess what, we have an emergency, because the goods were NOT delivered. It's as if Dominos brought you half a pizza, that's a snack, not a meal, even if they only charge you for the half.
