How many people are you actually expecting to show up for a weekly tournament? I don't image they will last very long. 15 minutes, maybe half an hour.

well, we have 9 confirmed members and i doubt that number would increase by more than a few by the weekend so it is going to be an awkward and thin seating arrangement at first until down to one table. so yeah, that would make for a pretty short tournament, maybe one hour max is my guess. maybe our numbers will grow after a while and make that more exciting.

also there is a regular non-tourney table for regular games in the poker club too so people could play for as long or little as they like there if there is interest.
 
My only concern is cheating, not that members of this collective will cheat, but in my experience with online poker, there are a lot of cheaters and cheat codes out there. Considering its only for points and not real money, it really makes no sense at all.

LOL...cheat codes are for game systems (xbox) and facebook poker. You been playing on facebook lately? :)

Haven't you ever played a game for fun...and not money? Chess, checkers, Yahtzee, monopoly, operation, twister, uno, hide and go seek, etc.? :)

On a serious note. Cheating can take place in a few ways: 1. Someone with insider help. 2. Collusion. 3. Bots. 4. Etc.

I doubt you'll run into these at the play tables, but you can play against a bot that someone is "testing" in preparation for real money tables.

I don't mind playing bots. I actually trained (and still do) by playing against 'University Developed' AI bots.

You can run into collusion at real poker tables as well.
 
Besides, you are playing with TSPTalk folks. We don't even know how to hold onto our own TSP Funds much less cheat people out of their play money. :laugh:
 
Perhaps you should invite "Vex Bot" to join you at your virtual poker table. Something with a coat of AI should make things interesting.

that is a very legitimate question. what you speak about is called 'collusion'. i will never do it. and if i see it, i will punish it, ruthlessly, your word is your bond. it has no place in a fair game and destroys not only the colluder's integrity but the integrity of the game. i love the game.

nobody ever reveals material details relevant to the game to another privately, only what all can access publically. or else i will kill it.

that being said there is nothing wrong with playing together, and sharing tips on odds or how to play hands, or running through the paces. if it is public, or after the fact. poker stories are like fish stories, everybody has one. but you never reveal anything privately that would be relevant to the public game. otherwise it wouldn't be called poker, it would be cheating.

Of course, we can agree on our own rules, but, I'd like to add that normally, no information should be exchanged while hands are still live. For example,

Some folks like to show their cards when they fold their hand...while there are still other players left to act! This is not fair, bad etiquette--if not against the rules at some locations; as what they were holding could reveal useful information to only one or more players left to act, but not all players left to act (it depends on what they are holding, and of course, what was folded.) While this is more an issue when their are players at a table that can utilize such information; it is still better to learn proper poker as a beginner than to learn from the pit boss or an unhappy table of players at a casino...should you find yourself there one day. :)

i 'published' this in the tsp poker club room earlier today, did it go out as an email, does anybody see it?

i will play, tonight, in about a half hour, after i put the laundry in the dryer and go pee.

you are invited to play in a 'ring' game at the 'fun skat' 5/10 nl holdem table this evening jan 28th in the tsp poker club room. i will sit in around 8pm eastern time for about an hour.


a few of us were on last night and played around for a little bit, it was fun and a good way to get used to the software and other players here (thanks K0nKuzh0n and No1Gata).

Maybe post to this thread as well in the future. May cause more to join also. :)

I just peed not too long ago, so I'll be there. :)
