Trivia

OK, I am being argumantative for no particular reason.:D

I transfer my half correct answer to Judy. After all, she probably wasn't even though of in 69.

PessOptimist,
That is being a good sport.
The $10,000 was the largest denomination circulated in the general public.
The Federal Reserve did recall the "big" bills in 1969.
The largest current denomination printed is the $100..... which will probably be worth what a $2 bills would buy when Benny gets through with his QE money printing..... maybe they will bring the $100,000 back and circulate it.

Hope that anchovie went down well......phew

I await the answer with "baited breath". (just had an anchovie)

I guess we could debate "general public" forever in a time when $100 per week was considered good pay. (at least where I was)

I did a paper on this in high school many years ago. Of course the history may be different now. I chose that subject because it had been in the news recently.

"General public" is kind of tricky as a lot of people were making $1.something in those days so we never saw $100 bills. The largest bill was $100,000.

Final answer: $1000, 1969.

PessOptimist,

You got half of it right.
The $1000 was the most common of the "big" bills.... but there were others.
The $100,000 was the largest but not circulated to the general public.

How about a fiat money question.
What is the largest denomination of all the US "dollar bills" that circulated in the general public and what year were they recalled?

$10,000 was the highest issued for circulation to the general public. It was not recalled, it was discontinued after the 1934 series.

"one time, at band camp..."

what's my name?

say my name...

Schwarzenegger has a big one, Michael j. Fox has a small one, Madonna doesn't have one, the Pope doesn't use his, and Clinton uses his all the time. What is it?

Anyone going to take a guess? Be careful with your answers...Don't want to land yourselves in TSP Jail!
