I'm surprised...is the Susquehanna Inn still in business ? It was a dive kinda place, way back when ! All you bikers hung out there !
But their pit beef on Sundays was killer ! We'd settle for Wargo's, too...miss their pit beef platter, with "gravy on the fries"
Hmmmmm....might seriously work something out here ! Memorial Day in VA is out for us...BUT...we have a dear Friend from my high school days who LIVES in Maggie Valley !!! Go figure ! We've been threatening him with a visit...it's been a couple of years since we were up there ! Let me know when in August...
I'd have to re-think the pulled pork butt, too...Although a butt from Grover T's is an option, my FAVORITE place, "Big Daddy's", recently closed due to an ugly divorce situation...this guy literally sold out of a dinky trailer, with his huge smoker out back ! Went "upscale" and opened a tiny strip mall place on the back roads, but his pork and sauce was awesome !
Also, around here, you can often pick up a 8-9 lb butt for $25, done by some local community group, as a fundraiser...also awesome !!! The locals here in "Lower Alabama" made me give up smoking my own butts and ribs ! Why bother staying up all night, when they produce better than I EVER have ! :nuts: Now I focus on sauces...Eastern Carolina, Western Carolina, 'Bama "White" Sauce, mustard-based, vinegar-based, spicy, sweet, etc etc MAN ! My mouth is watering !!! Maryland BBQ sauces were ALWAYS too sweet for my tastes...never understood the annual winners of the local BBQ restaurant competitions...
Maybe we should take this conversation off-line...don't want to make everyone else drool !
