Stoplight's Account Talk

Just another totally non-investment related post !

So today we had to do what all responsible pet owners do...we put down our Crabby Gray Cat of 10 years, Jack...this part of being responsible for a pet SUCKS !!! He told us "it was time" late Friday...

Here's a pic of him with our young GSD, Book, on the bed...I had to laugh when I went looking for pix of Jack in my files...this one of a young Book on the bed with him cracked me up ! I think, shortly after I took the pic, was the moment where he learned : "You don't screw around with the Cat !" (at least, not the gray Crabby Cat !)

Rest in peace, Jack...

Sorry for you loss Stoplight. Had to do the same thing just last week. My cat Raven (go figure huh) was 14 years old. He was all black except four white paws and a small white spot under his chin. Always a ham for booty lovin, he was loved dearly and will be missed! So rest in peace to both Raven and Jack

Stoplight and Raven, so sorry. That is heartbreaking! I've had to be courageous myself: 4 in the last 5 years. May you see yor fur babies at the Rainbow Bridge someday. They will be waiting....very patiently

Amen, Brother !!!

That's almost kinda creepy that you went through the same thing !!! ...but we appreciate your comments, and we send our thoughts back to you, too...

Glad you made it home from the ride to NC safely !!!

A Cat named "Raven"...why am I not surprised ???

We had the Ravens Flag flying for their last pre-season win...time to swap it out for the O's flag !!! It'll be time for the Gator Flag soon... :D

Obviously, I've not much experience at posting and don't want to clog your thread but wanted to send my regrets. I truly believe our loved ones...... Including the fur babes will be there. Hope I did not upset you.
On the light side, I loved being called bazingat! Reminds me of Archie Bunker calling Edith Dingbat, which can be very appropriate for me some days!
Blessings.

Bazinga! ,

Don't worry 'bout clogging up my thread...you just post away as you see fit !!! I don't participate in the auto tracker anymore, so my thread just kinda sits here, until I think of some irrelevant post :D I DO try and update my "retirement" thread, and jump in on/start some other threads when the mood strikes me ! I also participate in the threads on one of the premium services...

RE: the Archie Bunker and Edith comment...I'll assume that you are of...ummm....a "certain age" , like me !!! That show was a classic, and ground-breaking in its time ! It made me LOL, but also made me squirm at times...

Posted this in my "Retirement" thread, but an interesting "Reader's Digest" read on the pros and cons of rolling your TSP over into an IRA brokerage account, as I've done !

"Just as an aside...there have also been a lot of discussions on the Forum about the pros and cons of just leaving your TSP balance with TSP...there happened to be an article in USA Today this weekend, that talked about this issue...link here :

Retirees and 401(k)s: Big money, big decisions

I moved my balance, for all the reasons they cite !!! "Different strokes for different folks", though..."

Stoplight, Ravensfan and Bazinga(t); condolences on the furry friends. Been there and they surely do become part of your family.

Stop, congrats on the 700 posts and thanks for sharing all the retirement info.

Hey Stoplight congratulations on the 700 posts. That's awesome!:)

Hope that Orioles flag is flying high! Fans up here in good ol Balmer are all in a frenzy! O's are nine games up on the Stankee's! Woohoo!!!

UPDATE :

So, my previous strategy holding 20% cash in the sweep FDIC-insured Money Market fund paid me ~$1/month interest...no, that's not a typo ! Specifically, I made $7.73 YTD (through end of July).

I bought into the 2 Funds on 15 Jul. So how did the "new" strategy work ?

UPDATE for the end of August :

USGNX posted a dividend of $43.65 for the month
PRULX posted a dividend of $119.70 for the month

Dang...was I really that stupid to let my cash sit there like I did ???? I'm embarrassed...

Don't beat yourself up too bad Stop. I still have two old IRAs that are earning next to nothing I keep forgetting about. One is a CD that rolls over Tuesday. Thanks for prodding my old memory.

PO,

That reminds me, too !!! ...the Wife still has a tiny 403(b) account from before she met me !!! We're talking 1980's here ! We once tried to get the paperwork to roll it over to her retirement IRA, but those Companies DO NOT want to turn over that money...they make it difficult !!! I'm motivated to try again :)

UPDATE for the end of Sept :

USGNX posted a dividend of $64.40 for the month
PRULX posted a dividend of $106.29 for the month

So I'll quit posting my updates on my "new" strategy of parking my cash in 2 long term bond funds. I've made my point to myself, and hopefully others !

Yes, it may be riskier than a money market sweep fund, but I'll accept that risk...considering 1 month of dividends (they both post monthly) is about 10 years of returns on the MM sweep fund !

Good investing to all of you !!!

Sooo...my Wife is a peach !

I've been grumbling and moaning how our investments are losing money, and how my trading, and "buy-and-hold" portfolio, are sinking the last 2 months...she keeps saying : "It'll come back !" and "It's not a loss until you sell it !" I guess she listened to me in the past ! :D

So today, she goes out to lunch with a British Friend of hers, and comes back with a poster :

Keep Calm.jpg

So here's the Wikipedia explanation of the poster's origin :

Keep Calm and Carry On - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gotta love that Woman !!! :D

So I go away for a long weekend, and came back to find all my investments have continued to go bonkers !!!

Once I got back, I collected a few dividends, got caught in a stock split I didn't see coming, sold some stuff, bought some stuff, and whined about the general state of affairs for my "buy-and-hold" stocks...

OTOH...I took 2 high school age relatives to "The Swamp" in Gainesville to see their first UF Gator game (although we were humiliated by Missouri  )...those Boys had a BLAST anyway ! Spent some time with my Big Brother and his Wife, in Jacksonville... We ALSO got to see our Grand-Niece, who came down from KY to pet/house sit for us while we were gone...

Ya know ? Retirement is wonderful, and there is stuff that's WAY MORE IMPORTANT than how much money I made or lost today...I learned an important lesson...

I hope all y'all keep things in perspective, too...
