Stoplight's Account Talk

Okay...so I have been WAY BEHIND in checking my own thread, and recognizing all the comments all y'all posted ! Applied some "likes", FWIW ! :D

Total change of subject : Having retired in 2012, and withdrew my last TSP dollar in 7/2015, I'm kinda feeling like I shouldn't be posting in my "Account Talk" thread any more, with stuff that has NOTHING to do with the TSP !!! (...but that never stopped me before !!!) ...lots of new people showing up here on the Board, and I have nothing to contribute RE: the discussion on the TSP any more...

I'm NOT going away, though... But should I start a thread in some other, more relevant (to my situation !) forum ??? Retirement and IRA Talk (posted my experiences there, already...) Investment Portfolios ? ETF Talk ?

Tom....what do ya think ??? :D

Well, nobody said to shut the heck up, so I'll continue to post here, in my little corner of the TSPTalk world !

Latest conundrum : Having a bad year...lost my 64 year old Sister in January, after my 91 year old Mom passed in late December...last minute trips to Nebraska and Chicago... Note to self : stay away from Chicago in January !!!

Anyway, my current issue : All the bills are in, and the settlement of Ma's estate leaves me with ~ $11K...what do I do with it ? I can't put it in my IRA ; I don't need it to pay off bills (other than the last minute airfares !!! ) ; I don't want it to earn 0.25% APR in my emergency savings account... It occurred to me the other day...make a one-time payment on my mortgage principal !!! Yeah...mortgage is 3.25%, so that makes a lot of sense to me !!!

Any other ideas out there ???

Stoplight!

Take that trip to Australia you've been planning! Life is too short. Go on an adventure!

I'm planning my next one to either India and Nepal, or Java, Bali and Komodo Island.

:D I would go exploring if I were you.

Aloha,

Kona

a world series of poker main event buy-in only costs $10k plus $1k rake. sounds like fate to me. you said you got it and don't need it so that is a freeroll.

alternatively, if you are not comfortable playing at that level then you could stake me the $11k, i'll cover my travel and accommodations, we can split whatever i walk out of that event with at 50/50. i know it sounds strange playing poker with your mom's inheritance, but trust me, i've done it before and it gets easier after the first time.

Kona,

Why am I NOT surprised that that would be your recommendation ??? :D New Zealand/Australia still in the plan...having banked a year's worth of no withdrawals from the IRAs, we got that covered !!! Wife ordered 2 travel books from Amazon...planning underway !!! :D

Sorry Stoplight, I missed your question. Yeah, go for it. You can start a thread somewhere in our http://www.tsptalk.com/mb/investment-trading-and-finance-talk/ area where we talk less about TSP and more about trading.

It seems we have more and more folks retiring and going outside the TSP for return.

If you have any questions, just let me know (PM is better than asking in a post. :D )

Got ya, Tom !

I kinda like posting here, in my own world, whether it's relevant to TSP trades or not (see all my posts re: the Grand-Kid !!!!) If you don't mind, I'll continue to use this thread ! :D

Besides...all the TSPTalk members can decide whether or not they want to read my rambling posts !!!

Burro,

YOU are 1 crazy mofo !!! :D

I don't play poker...OTOH, I've been reading the Poker Club thread...if you're honest, that may not be a bad investment, with some "mad money" !!! :D Hmmm.....

Kinda tired of all this sideways action on my dividend stocks...

OTOH, good the dividends just keep rolling in...so far...

RE: The Grand-Niece...the Kid got a teaching job at a Charter School in Nashville...bless her heart !!!

For Burro...another example of the Kid's steely eyes..."selfie" from her "Open House" at the new school ! Yikes...

Yeah, she's cute, and smiling on the outside...but I don't think I'd want to be in her class !!! :D

Just sayin'...

glad to see how that is progressing stoplight. no offense to third world, and she did her time, but that is probably a much better arrangement for her and family than out of country. there are many ways to contribute in this life. i'm sure everybody will benefit from relatively safer, closer, and productive environment. now she can focus on making a difference without having to solve plumbing problems or language barriers or put so much effort into basic survival. can instill it all in the kids. great work, all of you.
