Silverbird's Account Talk

The Birdeen is in major squawk mode, uh oh, upper management suddenly decided last Thursday to ask for transition papers detailing the current competitive position of the industries each of us cover, with a due date of Feb 4. Which means lower management needs to review them next week.

The fact that Industry is only now starting to report on November's trials, and we only have hints on the wonders of December's year end horrors means anything I collected earlier in the year is superceded.

If I didn't know better, I'd say that they did it because they are mad we got two days off this week. :toung: But I know it's more likely CYA panic over reporting what the *beep* we do down here. So feel welcome to settle in, but the Birdeen is out of the nest and busy collecting buzzing market data so she's not home at the moment.

BTW, on the stock market, I was not expecting an Obama bounce. No one tries to play an emotional bounce in the stock market anymore, because last year it only got you bounced on your head. The stock market is now based on the actual industry data, fancy that!

Panic alarms have sounded and we are running at 273 miles per hour gathering all the data...they want answers NOW

As bad as things may have appeared last year - it was only around 10/08 the gates of hell broke through..WAIT TILL YOU SEE 11/08 AND 12/08

When they finally decided they wanted to know about everything that transpired over 4th Quarter - they basically started the stop watch and said: 'You've got 3 days'.

The last part should be carved in stone and filled with gold letters

That one takes the cake - the very best post to date!!!

And the FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) laced with confusion continues as Upstairs tries to figure out what they want:

11:00 am: The squawking begins as lower management tells the worker bees upper management doesn't want any more than 10 pages on any industry. The slicing and dicing begins!

2:00 pm: Upper management realizes that 2008 year end data is not available yet, and will resets the due date for sometime mid-February, after the data is in.
D'oh

I'm on vacation a week in early February, that's their problem...I already have the plane tickets and the leave is approved. And I'll be back before the year end data.:toung:

Nothing like a little getaway to an island close to the Equator...especially when the rest of us are freezing.. Well take plenty of sunscreen...and do enjoy the snorkling and doing the parachute stuff with the motor boat.

Don't be bashful about letting the staff tend to your needs, cause that's why they're there.... so simply hold up your glass whenever you want a refill..;)

The beach about a mile from where you're staying is totally private so let your hair down and just let things happen..

Well take care - and thanks for the updates

It's my parent's 50th wedding anniversary!! I'll be going to California, away from the little annoying flurries of snow that hint of the hockey puck cars soon to be found on a nearby freeway here in VA.:toung: But still stuck here for a week and a half.

Dishwasher is working. I'm working (on this bloody report). Thinking about warm weather.

It's my parent's 50th wedding anniversary!!

That is like the GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT IMAGINABLE

I've said from Day ONE - that I'm shooting for 50 years... and everyone asks 'What are you going to do then..' DUH :cheesy:

Of course anything beyond that are BONUS years - but 50 has always been my goal..so it's the ultimate challenge :)

I'll be going to California, away from the little annoying flurries of snow that hint of the hockey puck cars soon to be found on a nearby freeway here in VA.:toung:

Then I did a great job... thought of 2 extremes off the top ... the one I picked and a cabin in the Alps .... with hot tub and stuff...so I'm really glad I went with the Island.
But still stuck here for a week and a half.

Dishwasher is working.

Of course it's working... the only ones who doubted were CP, Kevin, Budnipper, Nnutt, Show-me, Frixxxx, Squalebear, Lady, 350z, Poolman ......

I'm working (on this bloody report). Thinking about warm weather.

Think on the bright side... the report all the more assures us you'll be around for awhile...

I hope CA turns out to be even more wonderful than you could imagine. On my parents 50th we celebrated in Summersville, WV at a bank that was converted to a very nice resturant.

Make sure your signficant uses his napkin... don't forget to pack your toothbrush...and pack some warm clothes just in case.

Hi Silverbird! I saw your post on the "Cool Vids" thread about your UTube music selections. Now I know we have at least two things in common, our politics and our taste in music! :)

Lady

Ok, off to Sunny CA on Friday, but not going to get online tommorow. Leave the office and let them freak out over this industry paper while I'm gone. :toung: Rolling things up for me today. WHEEE!

Another nibble into C and S on Tuesday, the nibbles are so small that I can't record them on the tracker. Buy Cheep Cheep with the payroll deduction, the rest in GG.

Ok, this is pure opinion.

Stock market, the worst in 8 years? That's 2001. Ohh, the fall after the dot.com bubble! There are lots of similarities here, everyone thinking that tech/housing was the way to riches. All you had to do was start an internet business/flip houses and you were good for life! Tech stocks/house selling became the get rich quick, expertise not needed, and the investments based on housing were sure winners.

When any investment looks like a sure thing, and it has a high growth rate of return, better look behind those numbers for the Wizard behind the Curtain.

Pretty much everyone in business thinks the first half of 2009 is a write-off. It will take at least a quarter for business to ramp up when things start to look better.

It's post second quarter that's in question right now. Not tommorow, not a week from now. Not even next month. But this is the time that business does a re-assesment, and if they have the capital, works on some R&D. Behind every crisis is an opportunity, anyone can play when things are easy. So I have hope, odd as that may sound. Broken mirrors and dissipated smoke are good things.

The lesson we still need from this crisis: everyone who plays needs to be affected by the risk they took. No re-selling risky loans, cause you then have no reason to care if it really makes sense or not. That's for me the shocking thing about this whole crisis. In the dot-com, the tech and internet industries got burnt. This one, anyone who already resold the loans got money for nothing. When I see this reform, I'll be in my careful birdeen way (I'm risk adverse. Very.) open to investing.

Nibble nibble again.

New contributions 100% S (I'm expecting a couple more shoes to fly at the Financials in C)

Balance is still in G.

You give lov -ohhhhhhhh - ahhhhhhh oveeeeeeeeeeeee sorry ran out of breath:o

Sounds like a good plan Captain. S Fund (or I Fund) usually blast off faster than C. On days like this G Fund sucks .... but who knows where things will be in another week or two.

Anyway - GL

Ok, the offical numbers are out, the horrors of December, the November cliff dive. Why are some people on TV trying to analyze the horrors as if they are today and based something that happened last week! We don't know the economic reaction yet to anything that's happened over the last two weeks. We don't know yet. I am not good at patience, but this time, I think I have no choice. I think that for the first time in a llllooonnngggg time industry will need to grow before the market; the market may not be the forerunner this time.

Nibble nibble, a little S in today again for new contributions, been out all day so could not report until now. Still not enough to record another 1%. What an odd day at the market. hrmm. Will the financials FINALLY shape up?

Hello, a little regulation, a little transparency. Something so I know that AAA doesn't mean :cheesy: <--You lose! I don't mind risky, as long as the main players stay at the table, but the game right now still seems to be "the invisible hand stole my wallet!" Unfettered capitalism needs some silver bracelets!!

Steady,

Enjoy your time off next week with the family. You well deserve some time off to relax and enjoy the most important part of our lives, Your Family. Get rested up we need you for April. It's going to be crazy...
