Silverbird's Account Talk

That's right, I thought I was being clear, I'm actually being very conservative. The balance of my account is in GGG.

Paulson plan had its roots in desperation. Sow's ears usualy don't make good purses, even with the best designers in consultation. Maybe they'll pull off a great stunt that works, and they'll start a new fashion trend in tiny sow ear purses. I have my doubts, however.:worried:

Going from 100% G - to 20% F, 30% C, 50% S at COB today
is the most opimistic post on the MB. :D

[Steady, I think Silver means new contributions in will go to F C and S
not the whole account.

My oversight - thank you!

You were clear and I misread it; just looking for an excuse to say hi. :embarrest:;)

Beware illusions, labels, things that go bump in the night, lest you sally forth to take them on and fall into a hole. Live in the comforting fog of debt, blame, us vs them, letting things run themselves, and hearing nothing but good news because we might be spooked by bad news; keep eating popcorn at our new huge screen LCD on credit. Bad news is brought by fearmongers, the real enemy. That was what we were told was good for us.

Light a torch, look around! The walls look solid at a first glance, but there isn't any insulation in there - like the new leaky McPretties in your neighborhood. It is going to be ugly. It's very ugly. It's much easier to be unite against the things that go bump in the night, collect up torches but not use the light, prop up the rake but don't clear the leaves. But the fog will eventually put you to sleep, better wake up, the sweet smell is really mold and rot and it will eventually bring us all down if ignored. And know that neither Party nor President have the power to protect us from the cleaning bill, desperate kicks to the fog machine notwithstanding.

The sweet cloying smell is everywhere, market stops trying to stuff it under the floor. Cellar door blocked until opening bell.

The happy happy joy joy club upstairs wants to know our predictions for Manufacturing in 2040 for expected key industries by Nov 4. Glad I'm not at work at the moment or would probably break my computer.

Let's sing classics from the '70's (commercials) hold the pickle hold the lettuce! (anyone who doesn't understand the reference - Movie Demolition man). I'd rather do the countdown to getting rid of these you know whats!

 Sorry Silverbird, but that sounds like requests we get all the time also. Our requests though revolve around projectioned commodty traffic movements on the waterway system or the amount of coal burned by utilies for the next 50 years. And our crystal ball always seems so cloudy, so we bring out the magic 8 ball for those requests. :D

New contributions: 100%F, in effect COB today. This is because F is Cheep cheep. This is NOT a validation for the F fund. More than 99 percent of my TSP remains in G. Equities have risen in price since my last little nibble in CS, and the bitelet remains in my TSP.

Good afternoon Silverbird, Why do you think now is the time for F instead of continuing on with contributuins to the G.

Thanks, Dave at VA

It's my attempt to buy cheep but preserve my assets. It's only my new contributions (deductions of 5% for matching and my loan payments) going into F because the price of F is falling. The balance is still safetly in G. Dollar Cost Averaging for Chickee birds. I'm risking less than 1% (actually less than 0.05%) of my TSP. Worst thing that can happen is F just keeps tanking and finally equliazes later at a lower level than I bought it at...and I lose some percentage of less than 0.05% of my total TSP balance as a result.

Why only have new contributions go to F? Why not also C and I? Seems like spread loading the new contributions into all three risk funds would maximze the opportunties to buy low and maybe even lower over the next 12 months or more... Something like C=40%, S=20% and I=20%...

I did that two weeks ago with my last paycheck. CSI is not falling right now, I think the current jump up in equities is temporary. Right now, I'm only buying funds whose price is falling.

COB Nov 18, New Contributions changed to 45%C, 45% S, 10% I. Balance remains more than 99% G, these are just new contribution nibbles!

Sorry everyone that I haven't been around that much, especially those of you who send private messages. I am trying to fit in some career training - I have 15 more years or so to go, and doing the same thing after nearly 20 years of it is going to drive me nuts. However, work still loves me, and sends me assignments. It's nice to be needed, but it hasn't left me much time to do anything with the training as well.

Way to go with trying to move up/across! I hope it works out. It surprises me that some people like to have the same job for their whole career; more power to them. Not me. I've got to move around.

COB Dec 3, New Contributions still 45%C, 45% S, 10% I. Missed the opportunity to change this, I'm at home with one nasty bug. Balance remains more than 99% G, these are just new contribution nibbles!

Not enough players in the market for me to have confidence yet that the market will rise, no news that would spell that either. But still want to get a little in. Shrug.

Hello Silver, Hope you're feeling better! There are some really nasty viruses out there. We have similar theories. DCA in verrry slowly over the next 9 -12 months or so using contributions. Good luck!:)

Ok, changed my new contributions to 60% S, 40%C, those are only new contributions, NOT an IFT. Over 99% of my TSP account is still safe in G.

For those of you wondering what's been up with me...warning, here comes a rant.

[rant on]
So, I thought I was buying a new dishwasher this weekend!

Unfortunately the plumbing in our vintage '70's house is fun and educational. The installer informed me that the water valve to the dishwasher is not only far too close to the cabinet wall to easily work with, the existing copper water input pipe is soldered in, not put on with connectors, so you can't take it out temporarily to get it to fit around the dishwasher or replace it with braided steel (unless you take apart the cabinets - welding torches are fun and educational too, especially next to a wooden cabinet wall) Can you say, cabinets built around plumbing?? arrgh. The whole house has...interesting plumbing, I know, I've worked on it. There was all too much "make it fit!". So to have the appliance guy put in the dishwasher, I'll have to call a plumber and get a new valve installed first. Sigh.

Oh, and the floor on one side of the dishwasher opening is too high, there are 4 layers of vintage vinyl on the floor. Countertop: true and flat. Floor, nice slope smart guys! I may be able to remove some of the layers in the general area, then it *might* work. Sigh.
[/rant off] sigh
