SANTA SIGHTED

"What do you want for Christmas" I asked my spouse this year.

"Just Cash", was her reply.

"What do YOU want for Christmas" I asked my 14 year old son?

"Money" he says.

Christmas shopping has never been easier, nor harder, than this year.

The Physics of Santa Claus:

1) No known species of reindeer can fly. BUT there are 300,000 species of living organisms yet to be classified, and while most of these are insects and germs, this does not COMPLETELY rule out flying reindeer which only Santa has ever seen.

2) There are 2 billion children (persons under 18) in the world. BUT since Santa doesn't (appear) to handle the Muslim, Hindu, Jewish and Buddhist children, that reduces the workload to 15% of the total - 378 million according to Population Reference Bureau. At an average (census) rate of 3.5 children per household, that's 91.8 million homes. One presumes there's at least one good child in each.

3) Santa has 31 hours of Christmas to work with, thanks to the different time zones and the rotation of the earth, assuming he travels east to west (which seems logical). This works out to 822.6 visits per second. This is to say that for each Christian household with good children, Santa has 1/1000th of a second to park, hop out of the sleigh, jump down the chimney, fill the stockings, distribute the remaining presents under the tree, eat whatever snacks have been left, get back up the chimney, get back into the sleigh and move on to the next house. Assuming that each of these 91.8 million stops are evenly distributed around the earth (which, of course, we know to be false but for the purposes of our calculations we will accept), we are now talking about .78 miles per household, a total trip of 75-1/2 million miles, not counting stops to do what most of us must do at least once every 31 hours, plus feeding and etc.

This means that Santa's sleigh is moving at 650 miles per second, 3,000 times the speed of sound. For purposes of comparison, the fastest man- made vehicle on earth, the Ulysses space probe, moves at a poky 27.4 miles per second - a conventional reindeer can run, tops, 15 miles per hour.

4) The payload on the sleigh adds another interesting element. Assuming that each child gets nothing more than a medium-sized lego set (2 pounds), the sleigh is carrying 321,300 tons, not counting Santa, who is invariably described as overweight. On land, conventional reindeer can pull no more than 300 pounds. Even granting that "flying reindeer" (see point #1) could pull TEN TIMES the normal amount, we cannot do the job with eight, or even nine. We need 214,200 reindeer. This increases the payload - not even counting the weight of the sleigh - to 353,430 tons. Again, for comparison - this is four times the weight of the Queen Elizabeth.

5) 353,000 tons traveling at 650 miles per second creates enormous air resistance - this will heat the reindeer up in the same fashion as spacecraft re-entering the earth's atmosphere. The lead pair of reindeer will absorb 14.3 QUINTILLION joules of energy. Per second. Each. In short, they will burst into flame almost instantaneously, exposing the reindeer behind them, and create deafening sonic booms in their wake. The entire reindeer team will be vaporized within 4.26 thousandths of a second. Santa, meanwhile, will be subjected to centrifugal forces 17,500.06 times greater than gravity. A 250-pound Santa (which seems ludicrously slim) would be pinned to the back of his sleigh by 4,315,015 pounds of force.

I hate to be a scrooge, but This time of year brings up "SO" many questions (for thinking people that is).

How should Jesus be remembered? With people trampeling each other at walmart? With people running into stores to get the "featured" item? With materialism? with commercialism? Do these "traditions" bring honor to Christ? Was Jesus "really" born on the 25th? What just IS the real origin of christmas?

here you go...

What I find interesting and hense Ironic is the biblical account of the "star of belen" You know the star ontop the christmas tree. According to the BIBLE (Yeah, not the churches) It lead the astrologers 1st to king herod who told them (the astrologers)to tell him where Jesus was when they found him, THEN after they left Jesus home god's angel warned them NOT to return to king herod but to go another rout, then the angels had to warn joseph and mary to flee (to egypt), of course king herod then found out the astrologers fled and he decreed all boys 2 and under be destroyed. The point is this, WHO would have the power to be able to create that star and lead men (who practiced a form of spiritism something the bible STRONGLY condemns) to god's son, putting his life in jeapordy and who would want to have him (Jesus) killed?... the answer is ...DUH!? Satan the devil! Satan created and used that star to try and have Jesus killed! So how Ironic that The "star of satan, er I mean belen" sits atop the very tree that represents a pagan holiday (Yes it is pagan, it is based on the pagan "solstice" celebration, look it up in the "catholic encyclopedia"). Ironic dontcha think?

Don't take my word for it though read all this in the bible. Matthew chapter 2 and Luke chapter 2, READ YOUR BIBLE PEOPLE!

Does it really matter what the actual date is we celebrate Christ's birth?..Hell no..there was for a sure at least 'A' day in that faithful year of our Lord..so Dec 25th is just as good as any day could of been...Even Easter Sunday would be no better or worse..

In my 16th year ..I went to Church with my Mom and Dad, like we did every year for Midnight Mass Christmas eve.. (Catholic tradition)

About half way through the mass, the priest residing gave a heart felt plea for more money in the collection basket this evening to help pay for the huge debt on the church for the Priest's new Cadillacs and the Nun's new kitchen in the convent...I got up and left the church and never went back...My complaint was for one day out of the year we are here to celebrate the birth of Christ, ..But the topic of money came to the forefront ..that turned me off forever against organized religion.

But again the whole point er I mean the big picture also includes this. Jesus NEVER commanded his followers to "celebrate" his birthday. He did however command his followers to remember his death. Jesus is (according to the bible) no longer a babe in a manger (as depicted year after year in the nativity scenes) He is now a powerful king in heaven who will soon intervene in human affairs at armagheddon.

Merry Christmas. Took me to retirement to say that without consternation.
Meerrrrryyyy Christmasssss.

1904 "Even though Christmas is not the real anniversary of our Lord's birth, but more properly the annunciation day or the date of his human begetting (Luke 1:28), nevertheless, since the celebration of our Lord's birth is not a matter of divine appointment or injunction, but merely a tribute of respect to him, it is not necessary for us to quibble particularly about the date. We may as well join with the civilized world in celebrating the grand event on the day which the majority celebrate - "Christmas day."" (Watchtower, Dec. 1, 1904, p364)

Just Sayin...

Jesus NEVER commanded his followers to "celebrate" his birthday.

Maybe not - but the Angels certainly did some hollering Halleujahs.
Think that was OK with the Big Guy, or were the heavenly host just
out doing their Own Thing?

Jesus birth does need to be recoginzed, if nothing else just for the opposition to oppose it - No growth without oppostion so it helps the
His Church grow and remain strong.

Little "D" is such a stupid loser.

Excellent point! I will be referencing that observation in future discussions! :)
