I'm up +.49% since the first of the year and +1.87% since I began posting in this forum on Feb. 14th. Wish my private investments had done as well. Don't have a "G" fund to hide in with my private accounts.

Your idea of a poll is good, butgain or loss shown as a percent would be better then awhole dollar amount.
A simple quarterly report on members' % gain or loss would show whose moves we want to track most.
We also need to agree on how to do the calculations based upon the quarterly TSP statement. Thanks. Mo
Mo, That's all they do here on the board, talk percentages (this is done to protect members privacy). You can find excel tracking reports of the members all over the board. I initiated the poll because I lost big $$ and I wanted to get a feel for the am'ts others lost in terms of cold hard cash - so-to-speak.

My biggest loss was the first 3 days of January.

Same here :(! Does anybody know what caused that first week of January to drop like a rock?
I have an Idea. On the first trading day of January the Fed for the first time released it's minutes 3 weeks after they had a meeting. The minutes were not nice from the market stand point in my humble opionion. I could be wrong. though, That is what I believe.
MMM?Seems like learning might be onto something about some kinda meeting. Since Cowboy aint the brightest maybe you can watch forus Learning, and post your thoughts on the meeting then let us know what ya think will happen3 weeks from then and Cowboy will take it into consideration.
I have pointed out when the minutes will be released. I have never guess right how the market would react. :X Laws of average would say that I would get lucky once. The first release had me nervous. I thought any hit would be made up quickly. Wow, was I wrong. It went bad and did not turn the next day or two. Got outafter the third trading day. I will post when they will release the minutes. It also gets small bye lines in the week before it is released. Then it hits and it is up in the air from there. I have always tried to let people know when it is going to hit. Though, only the first release in January had a real impact on the market it appears. It was the first time and perhaps that was the reason. Also they appeared to catch people off guard. Perhaps, they are more careful in their minutes now. We can only pray.:)

WTF is thisall this in fightinggoing to accomplish anyway.:?

the purpose of the bbs is to share ideas related to tsp allocation for the most part correct???:%

wonder woman has been a great asset to the board...to come home tonight and see that she isbannedis very upsetting:@

Tom can we have a poll to decide on who can stay and who should be banned...just kidding. these damn polls are hitting a sore spot with folks driving home how fugly the market has been. perhaps it is time to look foward for better days and avoid focusing on the poorrecent performances of the C, S, and I funds.

I hope it is just the market that is causing these off color posts. I had to delete many of them. Let's please get back to trying to make money and avoid theflame wars.

Thank you.

Not really. All that matter is percentages. If you (WW) lost $1000 it could mean the market had a modestly down day. If someone with a $10,000 account lost $1000, it means we practically crashed. If a hedge fund lost $1,000,000 from their $500,000,000 account, they may not even blink, being down only.2%.

Dollar amount means nothing. It's all about %.

Agreed. On the rational level the percentage is the key.

However, on the psychological level, if losing a $10K in three monthsmakes you sick or leads to panic attacks, you should dial back your level of risk. There's nothing wrong with a much higher percentage of G and/or F, if you can reach your financial goals with alower rate of return. In fact, you shouldn't take on any more risk than is absolutely necessary to reach those goals.

Finally, high return with low risk is an oxymoron. High return requires high risk. No free lunch!;)

TSP is inherently geared toward a long-term approach. Secondly, most of my coworkers have neither the education, time or the stomach to conduct short term trades. I will have to be honest-it has been unpleasant lately. But that is all it has been.

I was on the money January 3rd. Since then, I have missed one upswing. I have been on the wrong side for this latest downturn, but I hedged a little. So it is not so bad.

After reading Techno's cited article today about China, I am feeling better about where I am. 60 C 20 S 20 I After all, I have 10 years to go.

I would offer everyone a glass of wine and say that it is not money until you go to withdraw.

Hey WW, didn't your avatar used to read something like, "Make me some money, guys!".???:D

I think everyone needs a vacation. The way the market did last week, it's no wonder tempers are short. Everyone, just keep in mind that we are in the same boat. Percentage wise, I screwed the pooch:shock:. But by the end of the week,I was just slightly down.

This week coming up is another week of earnings. I would suspect that the market will be doingthe same with the Dow fluctuating 500 points during the week.

Rod,
Your question is in bad timing. There is no way you could have known why. If youinsist on knowing perhaps I can explain off the board.

I hear ya, Grandma! Seems like ol Doc might of had the right remedy like I was saying last night. Hehehee! Expect a move from the Cowboy I think though today but I am going to watch a little longer. Ol Cowboy he has had a fair run a luck lately. Yep all these stories about econimists and some rich guy written how the world financially is ending or going up don't mean a hoot to the cowboy. Personally I don't think cowboy knows how to read and his writing probably ain't the best either. If you want anything just putit in Cowboy talk and maybe the ol boy will come up with something.
