PessOptimist's Account Talk

PO -
I never knew the meaning behind the raising of the flag on Memorial Day. Thank you for your thoughts and memories.

Thanks PO. It is always good to remember. I never had a chance to talk to my dad about WWII. I'm Vietnam Era Veteran (no combat). USAF, stationed at FE Warren in Wyoming keeping our nuclear deterant at the ready (Minuteman ICBM's) . My cousin was a Marine Captain in the first Gulf War. He has some stories.

I'm back from a vacation in the north east. Did not look at the market or TSPTalk since I left on the 9th. Did not check work e-mail. Did not get to do everything I had hoped.

I took this photo with some of the discussions on this board and that other one in mind.

EV charging.jpg

It is good to see the infrastructure for alternate fuel vehicles is appearing. The rest of it speaks for itself as far as usage.

Now, about investing, when does the rocket take off?

I wonder how much they charge you to charge up your car?

It was the same deal for hotel guests as in your next post. Others would need to have a card.

All kidding and facts about subsidization aside, it is kinda cool that it is available. It might work for some.

I asked one of the managers about the charging stations and was told "the person in charge of that is off today". There was no sense asking any more questions, nor did I want to.

This particular motel was IMHO a pretty good deal for anyone traveling with extended family.

About that investing stuff. I haven't made a move yet this year so why start now? This whole budget ceiling posturing and brinkmanship thing has me wondering a lot. I think they will come up with a "miraculous" last minute agreement and the market will go up for a day or so. After it goes down for a while. They probably have it all planned out now, just need to get their investments in line. Timing is everything and only they know the time.

I said I was going to post more about my vacation last month. Never got to it, been too busy getting ready for the next one.

The previous one was a something that came up late last year and grew from a long weekend to two weeks.

This one has been planned for over a year. I didn't get as much "stuff" from work about two vacations this summer as I thought I would in the end.

Th "real" vacation is a cruise to Alaska. Sounds great no? Fly to Vancouver, get on the boat, fly back, go to work. Mais, non. Take leave a week early, fly to Portland, rent a car, drive to Cannon Beach, Forks, Oak Harbor and Bellingham. Overnight stay each place. Guess who gets to drive and hump all those cruise bags in and out of hotels? On to Vancouver on a bus. Lot's of site seeing stops along the trip. Probably will have to hump all those bags out of the bus and open them at the border. Then put them back together. Neatly of course.

Finally on the boat a week after leaving home with two of wife's friends. Neither of which can lift luggage. Lot's of shore excursions planned. Dumped off in another week at Seward. Train to Anchorage then another rental car and drive to Talkeetna. More driving around with three old females. Who can never agree on ANYTHING. Something about a flight on an ill maintained antique aircraft to see ice that is melting faster than you can imagine. Drive back to Anchorage. Make sure everyone get's to the airport on time. Fly home. Go to work rested and ready.

Sounds like a great vacation for someone.

PO, sounds like a great time. We did an Alaska cruise tour with Princess in 2007. Started in Fairbanks and took the Alaskan Railroad to different destinations. Ended up in Seward to get on the ship and cruised the inner passage making a few stops and finally got off the ship in Vancouver.
Relax and enjoy.

what I did on my summer vacation

Made it throught airport security, holding up my pants with one hand while trying to keep an eye on my wallet with all ID and money plus all other stuff. Made it to Portland and now in something beach somewhere in OR. View of the ocean is OK except for an unsightly rock. Looks to me like an ARRA project. Just will require a lot of shovels.

I might send a photo of said fraggle rock later. Technical difficulties.

The deal on these vacations I put up with is supposed to be that each days food, lodging, transportation are supposed to equal less than the days pay after taxes. Flights always exceed that. The rest of the trip is supposed to make up for that. I think we blew it so far.

Geez PO, what's with the Eeyore attitude. B's right - have some microbrew from the local breweries. I lived in the Pacific Northwest for 12 years before moving to Hawaii, and let me tell you, some of those brews will make you feeeeeell real good!

what I did on my summer vacation

OK, took your advice. They were mussels cause no steamers were available.:( Also had a beet salad. Wrong restaurant but it was handy and we needed food cause we took the other part of the advice and tried a few local brews.

It's Cannon Beach btw. Said rock is a haystack. I realized the only program I have on this laptop that easily reduces the size of the photos is my e-mail program. Work arounds.
