PessOptimist's Account Talk

you're not on my list PO, besides even if you were i probably couldn't remember where i put it or what was on it any way.

as for the drama, i find my life is best lived laughing, even if it's at myself, easy pickins, lots of material there to work with.

sometimes the off-topic stuff can lead to serious discoveries, i think you may be on to something with the whole unicorn electricity machene thing, i'm just not sure how to apply it to my (substantially less than hundreds of thousands) tsp account yet.

wait, i got an idea, now i know it's not a unicorn but they are hard to catch,

anyway, i think it could work, just trade 'air' for fuel, like maybe that corn blend, all you got to do is feed them corn and they fill up the tank so you can drive to the window, get yourself a burger, stop by the ethanol station on the cheap on the way home, and then feed whatever is left over to the cattle, and then wake up way before dawn and plant more corn, it's like a perpetual motion macheene.

yep, get in now, it's gonna work for sure, i swear.

i'm still working on how to actually make the connection, where does this wire go, minor stuff, but i bet it's going to be shocking.

oh no, i think i just found the flaw in the arguement,

why work hard to convert your corn and beef into currency to afford to be able to go to town and buy corn and beef? all those trips contribute to global warming. why not just stay on the farm, heck plenty of corn and beef already there, plus sometimes there's farm girls too, they know how to work, way better than them city girls.

it's all about transactions. great deal if you can rake a little profit off each transaction, not so good for the consumer.

so go green, keep your hard earned resources to yourself, eat local, don't support the industry that burns non-renewable resources to bring food to your town. now i realize some folks don't have gardens or critters, sorry for you. that's why the grocery and gas bill is so high, simple really.

Burro, the renewable energy initiatives out there may actually include unicorn fart fired power plants. I haven't bothered to read them all.

What seems to be common knowledge is that unicorn emissions have a BTU capability of right around infinity and have absolutely no harmful by products except for the rainbows and sparkly thingies seen around them.

What I do know about renewable energy initiatives is that most of them involve a federally funded and built transmission line to get this highly subsidized green energy in to the national grid. These costs often seem to be ignored or listed as "one time start up" costs as if these federally owned transmission lines never need any attention after they are built.

The real problem with the unicorn emission plant initiative is that the unicorns, as you stated, are had to catch, and for eons big oil has kept them in a corral in Utah near area 51. There is a rumor some religious organization is involved. Inquiring minds just don't really care. The biggie is as you stated, raking a little profit off each transaction.

Don't lose sight of tractor fuel or pulley horsepower in all of this. That may be the solution, find a Case VA that burns 42 octane and get a big leather belt to drive your generator. You could use any old tractor like a JD (de one fer de workin man) Farmall, IH whatever. Long as it has that big open pulley and maybe an open PTO shaft or two. Too many people from my generation on down got all their fingers, arms, etc.

Since it seems to be in fashion, here is mine.
12-Month Personal Rate of Return: 11.74%
2010 6.99%
2009 8.98%
2008 -0.23%
2007 5.7%
Not gonna make that million I was told about back in 98 this way.
Here is the graph I posted before updated to Feb 11.

As a reminder, blue line is the eom balance, purple line is my personal payroll contribution excluding any matching funds. I do like my graph. I don't necessarily like what it shows.

I did not give enough info about my changes in strategery.

For about 10 years from 98 my payroll contributions or allocations as some refer to them, were 40G, 30C and 30F. That is what was available then.

In late 08 I became aware I had this money sitting there being ignored. I believe that is what good ol frtib wanted, sheep to give them money that the sheep ignored. At that point I found out I could actually move that account balance around and started being somewhat active. As you can see from the yearly returns, I was succesful in preventing too much damage in 08 but have hardly made anything since. So far this year looks better but almost everyone has gains so far this year.

In all this time of making a few IFTs I never changed my payroll allocations other than to change F to I.

I recently came to believe I have enough in G and changed my contributions to 40C 30S 30I.

Now I am thinking about making a dollar amount goal for G and allowing myself to move the rest of it around. This is as opposed to leaving 50% in G no matter what the account balance.

Yes I do realize that if I had had 100% in one of the equity funds I would have about twice the gain so far this year.

No I didn't spell strategery wrong. I love that term.

We're on pins and needles! LOL

Seriously, we'd appreciate any news or insights you have to share.

OK, I can't find it but someone posted a cartoon about the inflation index showing Bernanke and a starving child. Maybe it wasn't on this MB but I think so. I should have saved it when I saw it. Would someone please tell me where I saw it?

Last year, PO, you were the only one on the calendar for Birthday Celebrations for today - Now you can have a real party! You can't beat that !!

I am sitting here in the southwest listening to my AC churning away and working on my own third beer.

I posted that last year on Memorial Day weekend. Tonight I am doing exactly the same thing. The beer count may be different.

Memorial Day has always been a special day to me for some reason. I am not really sure why. I have suffered the loss of no one close.

Maybe I should say the death of no one close. When my cousin came back from his second SEA tour the cousin I grew up with had been lost over there somewhere.

My Dad and all my Uncles were WWII veterans. All made it through without too much permanent damage. There were stories told by them of course, not told often and usually after a few malted adult beverages. Only if the women weren't around. Usually about luck. Like “if the turret hadn't been to the right I would not have been blown out the hatch...” and “If I hadn't moved a little to reload...”

These guys and their friends were always “tough guys” to me. Not bullies but no nonsense no BS kind of guys. Mostly blue collar types who “worked for a living”.

On Memorial Day or Decoration Day as some called it, these tough guys were different. Sometimes as a kid I would ask someone “what's the matter with Daddy or Uncle Joe or Mr.Smith”? I would be told “never mind, go along about your business”. There must be something pretty powerful going on here to make these tough guys cry. As a kid I just didn't understand.

In the town I lived in every May 30th at 8AM sharp a parade would start. Some years I got to march as a Cub or Boy Scout. We halted at three (or four, long time ago) memorials and the bridge over the river to render honors. Then to me taps was just a song played at the end of the day. I never realized. Never cared I guess. Then I grew up. Viet Nam War. Winning the draft lottery. Military service. No SEA tour for me just to be clear.

The US Flag tradition for Memorial Day used to be to raise it at sunrise (boy am I dating myself in this era of 24/7 lighted flags) and lower it to half staff in memory of the fallen. At noon it was briskly raised to the top to symbolize that none died in vain and the nation still proudly endured due to their sacrifice.

A more recent tradition is a moment of reflection at 3PM local time.

Something else I posted last year.

As most of us enjoy the long weekend, let's make sure we do not confuse Memorial Day with other occasions paying tribute to those serving or who have served. Formerly known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. None of us MB members who served meet that criteria.

While some of you are dealing with painful memories this weekend and especially on Monday, keep in mind the meaning behind the raising of the flag to full staff at noon.
