OBGibby's Account Talk

Does anybody know how I can remove the poll at the top of my thread? It's a bit old (I posted it Dec 30, 2009) and I'd like to remove it. Wouldn't mind seeing a board-wide poll to see what the average TSP balance is for a TSPTalker these days. Maybe a double poll to show average balance and average years of contributions to TSP to put it in perspective.
I'll ask Tom, I do know one thing if I delete post number one it deletes the entire thread but Tom may be able to edit out the poll?

Watched "Margin Call" yesterday. Entertaining film. The firm in the movie is loosely modeled on Lehman Brothers, but takes a macro-level look at the financial firms and generalizes most things thought wrong with them. For example: unsustainable leverage in pursuit of profits; employees singularly focused on making money at the expense of doing the firm and their clients right; and an unflattering sense that the top levels of the financial firms have/had no idea how their in-house trading strategies actually worked.

Probably a better movie than "Wall Street" of 1987 fame.

I prefer the Bill Miller approach of buy and hold. Even though equity values will fluctuate the income they produce is stable and generally increases over time. When I reinvest my dividend income the money compounds over time. Each payment that is reinvested results in a bigger payment three months later - a self feeding system.

Agree - good movie. More realistic than 'Wall Street' but not quite as entertaining (no brick sized cell phones on the beach) :)

So true...No stretch limos (soooo 1980's) either in the recent offering in the "let's disparage Wall Street" genre.

Another oldie but a goodie: anybody remember "Barbarians at the Gate," the film based on the book of the same name, which was based on the buyout of RJR Nabisco? Starred James Garner (who doesn't love "The Rockford Files"?). Good movie. If I remember correctly, it was an HBO film.

CURRENT AUTOTRACKER FOR 2012: +9.70%

Yesterday I was at 127 on the Autotracker. After today's carnage I moved up to 26...Going to be another wild year I think.

Jumped back into the market today. Went from 100% G to 40% G, 20% C, 20% S, 20% I. Looks like I may have been a day late and more than a few dollars short! Missed some big-time gains today. Oh well.
