White House Budget Plan Praises the TSP, Then Cuts It - Pay & Benefits - GovExec.com

"Although President Trump’s fiscal 2019 budget request touts the popularity and success of the federal government’s 401(k)-style retirement savings program, policies in the fiscal roadmap would significantly reduce the Thrift Savings Plan's effectiveness..."

Here is a scary quote;

"Weaver said in an email. “More than 3.6 million TSP participants (69 percent) have all or some of their account balance invested in the G Fund. Of those with money in the G Fund, 2 million (39 percent) hold the G Fund as their sole investment choice.”

Opportunity Rover Celebrates 5,000 Days on Mars

"NASA's long-lived Mars rover Opportunity has just rolled past another big milestone — 5,000 days on the Red Planet.

The golf-cart-size Opportunity touched down on Mars in January 2004, on a mission that was originally envisioned to last just 90 Martian days. (And we're talking here about Martian days, or "sols," each of which is 40 minutes longer than an Earth day.)..."

Are you getting one for yourself? If so, how long is it going to take to put it together?

As for cutting the G-Fund return rate, its still better than most CDs you can get. Besides, with a little education, folks wouldn't be sitting in the G-Fund, unless that close to retirement.

It would be interesting to put one together. But, No I will not be purchasing one. Just a little out of my price range.

Good finish for a Friday.

So this was a short week of trading but the sticky pants got put to their task. Do I stay in these or put on a fresh pair? Man, I hate these decisions.

We have had a nice run up the last two days. If the final two days of trading for February are similar to the last two days I just might make it into positive territory for the month. Not going to hold my breath and keeping the sticky pants on just incase.

Good luck everyone.

Well it looks like February has officially kicked my butt. Let's hope I can stay positive YTD by the end of tomorrow. :banghead:

I know how you feel nasa. Yesterday I was up 0.10% year to date, but after today, I am back in the red. Looks like what worked in 2017 won't cut it this year. ;swear

Well it's official, I need a fresh pair of sticky pants. The pair I had on yesterday failed around 2 o'clock. :Flush:

So I'm sitting here listening to these so called experts on one of the business channels and this knucklehead says "After the run up we had in January, you had to expect volatility in February". Nice call bonehead. It would have been nice to have thrown that out there at the end of January instead of the end of February. Of course he didn't have a thing to say about March...probably will comment about it in April...sheesh!

99.9999999% of those people have no idea what they're talking about - all reactive and sky is falling

Well now we know why the market tanked yesterday. Thank you for the tariffs on steel and aluminum.

Markets are looking terrible this morning. I may have to take a big loss just to stop the bleeding. Will have to wait and see what things look like before noon.

But remember what happens before noon can really change up in the afternoon ...and during the last hour. Ugghh....

Tariffs important on steel/aluminum ...can impact national security if we don't produce enough. Also need reciprocal VATs.

So here is my dilemma. I'm currently 40/30/30 C/S/I and made the jump from 100% S because the C & I funds were performing better than S. Then February went sour, which didn't help. Now the S fund is doing much better and if I would have stayed in the S fund I would be 2% higher right now. I would think that the S fund will do better with the possible tariff war coming. If I jump back now I would only be 11 shares less then when I made my move in late January. I will be out of town next week and not sure if I should stay put or go back to S. GGGRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!
