Market Talk

The insurance companies will eat their losses and then a larger profitable company will buy them to get the tax loss carry forward to reduce taxes on current profits. This is done frequently - I even use tax loss carry forwards to reduce my own capital gains and short term profits. Don't fear a loss - it will come in handy later.

These posts and some in another thread remind me of a book I read recently; THE WARNING by T.Davis Bunn....a suspense type novel concerning a trader who was bound to get to the top, the multi zillionare who was able to manipulate the market because of his wealth & viciousness, and the assistant banker who was given the insight to warn others of what was coming in the market.... a lot of `puts,' `shorts' and `longs' language! The story helped me understand a tad bitof the workings of the people who are `hands on.' I have strongly believed for a long time that the market & politics are fully governed & thus manipulated by a few unkn certain people behind the scenes -

u r correct grandma........btw: just found out yesterday the wife and i are to be grandparents also!!!:D

amazing 2 me how some here say not to post this jekyll isle stuff since no one can do any thing about it. these folks want to keeptheir head buried in the sand and roll the dice with life as if we could get ahead somehow that way. the only ways to get ahead is with luck, inheritance, or the knowledge to put your bucks in front of social change (change manipulated by the fed:P)

rolo (and the other posters from the other board )wonder why this board has eroded a bit....like hecares ..LOL

here's why:

1) federal employees trying 2 act like day traders with out much research or knowledge.

2) pissing contests over chicken chit day to day occurrences versuslooking at the fundamental trend/s.

3) folks that want to destroy this bbs for some reason by having several different aliasesand then bashing away for the sake of bashing away.

4) and finally the sensitivity of those running the board....worried about absolutely worthless competing bbs's like sarahhoe's tsp rant site. thus causing censorship of any post that may direct some members away...like they actually would. (fwiw...the ones that left are in need of a social club ,,,not stock insight)

look i'm into making money and most mainly in real estate btw. hell even my income from the federal govt. is more than triple my tsp earning this year

at any rate my wife has dropped the hammer on me and wants me to cut down on these stock sites. she hates stox and still has vivid memories of the 2000 naz crash.( lost 47k in a matter of weeks in a day trade account) the returns i've made in tsp this yearare less than 50k...the returns i've madein real estatemakes this tsplook like a cd.

tekno

ps: go ahead and delete this post also...LMAO

tecknobucks,

I hope your post is not deleted. It is such a gut wrenching account of emotions not unlike the ones we all have and keep inside and underneath our skins - emotions that burn and sometimes get snuffed out, emotions that twist and grow into distortions of truth and reality, emotions never let out of our smoldering cauldrons, that never get to heal under the warmth of the sun's light. You wrote of thoughts and feelings that may not be politically correct nor socially acceptable. I think it is an honorable and worthwhile post and definitely should not be deleted. I just wish I could offer you a soothing blanket or something to smooth out the painful pebble ridden road you seem to be treading with bare feet.

Congratulations on your soon-to-be new status as Grandparent!

As I wrote before I usually only browse and have noticed your contributions have been generous beyond words and I believe have assisted all of us in our quest for information and knowledge in managing our retirement monies. I hope your wife allows you to continue to contribute some and that you are not too put out or put off by all of us who still need your skills, knowledge and generosity.
