Market Talk / June 11 - 17

Rod,

I agree! Just obey the board rules and don't take things personal!

Most definitely.

Heck, If I was "out" to heckle the bears, I would not have praised "The Technician" for his faithfullness in posting during both UP & Down days.

That's what I was driving at. Some bears, not all, simply disappear and do not reappear until the market is in the red once again proclaiming, "The sky is falling". The sky will fall eventually just as the market will rise eventually.

Of course, there should be no accusations while we are debating, but clean and productive debate.

How else are we to learn from one another?

Debate causes us to search and dig deeper in order to understand things more clearly. We must also be willing to switch from bull mode to bear mode, and vice-versa. If not, our pride will simply get in the way and we will lose $$$ in the process.

K... 'nuff said.:)

That reminds of a simple truism from Confucius:

I hear and I forget.
I see and I remember.
I do and I understand.

YES! They both hit it just about perfect. Wow!

After my last months performance even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then. lol This does ease the pain a little.:D

To whoever was asking about the old timers that aren't around much if at all these days - I'm still here, but my time is much more limited these days. My job, other sites, women, and poker are all competing for my time, so discussing investment decisions is losing that battle. :D

Incidentally, I did a brief interview with a financial writer this afternoon, so yours truly might get a little publicity next week. :)

I agree! Just obey the board rules and don't take things personal! I'm also a member of Traders-Talk, and like this board personal attacks are absolutely not tolerated. However, when you criticize someones opinion some folks will just stop giving it. Or poke at them, you know pull their string!

It took me a little while to learn this myself. Now, no one's opinion of the market effects me in a negative way. I listen (read) and add it to my knowledge base.

I get a lot of PM's from well meaning members who say this poster or that poster is dangerous because of what they are saying. It may seem that way, but our defense is a simple reply... I disagree. Here's why...

I think most people reading the board can make a good judgement from there.

That's what I'm talking about when I mean a "clean and productive" debate, instead of saying "shut the [explicit] up", like I've experienced.

Quite immature if you ask me.

How's the poker going Mike?
Last week was ugly: I wasn't winning any races, I was getting my premium hands cracked regardless of how I played them, and it was just one of those periods that tests your confidence. I took a couple days off from the game and recharged my battery... then I spent some time looking over the things I was doing and why they weren't paying off, and followed that up by rereading a few chapters in Harrington's book (vol 2). Then I started playing again and implemented a few different tactics that I wasn't using previously, and it's paid off: six straight cashes plus a $60 profit in a 3 hour cash game session playing $0.25 / $0.50 NL (for an average of 0.5 bb's per hand dealt :D ). In other words, I'm now bullish on my poker game and the market.

Very nice play in the TSP markets, Show-me. If you don't mind stepping up to the podium to take a quick question on the win... what motivated your TSP move for that incredible gain on the 15th? Blind hog I think not. :) Great Job!

My motivation was the numerous comments from members, friends, TA's, and the fact that the charts do look like they could bounce. A solid seven day fall that went pretty deep. There was a serious over sold condition. The I fund took an enormous beating. When the I fund took a hard fall and then a small rise followed my a US market rise that was my trigger.
I particularly like the S&P 3 year weekly chart. Don't think we are in bearsville, yet the the threat is there with all of the outside influences. I'm still reading my ST Almanac and am watching the Mid-Term Election Year indicator and the Hindenburg for smokers.
