Anybody heard of these guys?

There's one in my area. I'm not sure if it's a franchise or owned by the company. I'm going to a free half day workshop this Thursday (May 20, 2010) to check the place out. I'm sure I'm going to get a sales pitch and I believe the classes are pretty expensive.

They have a radio show Monday through Friday. http://www.tradingacademy.com/radio/ You can download these shows on iTunes.

Apparently they have a local-to-me radio show on Saturday on 640 WGST that's really pretty good. Some of the information is rather basic. http://640wgst.com/pages/power_trading.html

Awful quiet i here this morning. I really hope we find some support around the 200 E/SMA or 10% correction else I'm going to have to ride it down some more and just DCA on the way down. :o

I'm going to the half day workshop today at the Trading Academy. I figure I'll get to see some level 2 access and some sort of trading platform...I think they use TradeStation. The workshop is from 9:00A till 3:00P and they are providing lunch. I wish I had thought to ask you folks what to ask while I'm there.

Anyway...I hope we find some support today. Good luck everybody. ;)

Have fun Kevin! Tell us how it goes....................

The basic class is 3 days for $2000. Then there are 4 days of supervised live trading with real money. During the 4 days they teach “advanced” trading techniques for an additional $3000. 7 days for a total of $5000.

After the 7 days in class the student is supposed to draw up a trading plan and submit it to his/her coach. The guy I talked to said that the first draft never gets approved. They mark it up with a red pen and send you home to improve it and resubmit it. After your plan is approved they send you home to trade for a month. I was told to expect to have BIG problems the first time out but the losses will be kept to a minimum. The student can make an appointment to come in to have his/her coach sit with them one on one and try to identify where the problems are and help figure out how to fix them. Not until the student has had 2 months of positive trades will the trading coach release you to trade on your own.

Basically the class is supposed to teach you how to manage risk by having a trading plan along with a coach there holding your hand and keeping you accountable for sticking to your plan. They allow their students to retake the class as many times as they need to at no additional charge.

The main pitch was that the training is LIVE...not a book to read or a DVD to watch. The second point is that it's for LIFE. As many retakes as you need for life. The third was a trading coach to see you through. Someone to ask questions to and someone to look over your shoulder.

My dumb ass signed up. The class I signed up for ain't till August. I have 3 days to cancel.

SO you are suppose to come up with your own trading plan? And they get to see what it is and take whatever good points they see it, keep it and then tell you to go improve it while they incorporate the good stuff into their own trading? Hmmmm, sounds like a profitable "business" scheme to me......just saying............

Hi Kevin,

If you are Mentally ready for this type of instruction about the market's and you are interested and I mean really interested then maybe this is the right way for you. I mean for that kind of money I'd be taking advantage of everything and suck up everything I could and be Happy about it.

I self Taught myself and didn't find it a burden at all because it's all out there for Free.

Good Luck,

Poolman

I lost WAY more than $5K just today. I'm thinking professional training and a coach/mentor would beat trial and error.

I'm (mostly) out of debt except for my house and the plan was to up my contributions to the TSP OR start a Roth IRA. With the Roth we would have a source of tax free income in retirement. Also I would have a vehicle where I could make some money on the short side that the TSP doesn't offer.

I still have 3 days to talk myself out of it.

Kevin, most probably you have done these things, like reviewing the outfit through Consumer Reports or some similar checking service.
And, do they show you their balance sheets on their own investments?
It sounds like their Guarantee is to let you keep at the class until `you get it!'

I can understand the feeling of wanting `hands on' training -
There are several different ways of learning, and this is one of mine:
`stand here and peer over my shoulder the whole time I sit here!!'

Best wishes if you decide to take the class. :)
This is certainly a discouraging time in TSP, especially when some of us feel we are being taken advantage of.

Who's taking advantage? The thrift investment board for the limited IFT's? Or are you feeling taken advantage of for being on the wrong side of the trade? Or what?

I'm on the wrong side of the trade and it's no body's fault but my own and I'm not sure that any amount of education could have prevented it.

Unfortunately you are competing against adolescent hedge fund managers and they are very emotional and often panic easily. They will have to buy all their positions back

Not speaking for grandma.... but things like this make ME feel taken advantage of Kevin.

After testing and holding the 200-day EMA on Wednesday, the S&P 500 broke that support and ended up testing the May 6 low. It's funny how everyone was trying to blame the big May 6 sell-off on a technical glitch, but if that was the case, would we be back down to those levels so quickly?
