JTH's Account Talk

The branches that canned it are considering bringing it back.

Yeah, I heard, but since Mr. Air Force Brought it up...

I spent 3 months at Goodfellow AFB for training. Gotta admit, the maids that clean the barracks rooms every day is a nice touch. The chow ain't the same though!

Don't hate the player, hate the game :)

Maids don't clean barracks they clean billeting, and please let me apologize on behalf of the USAF for Goodfellow AFB, there are much better places to spend 3 months.

Here is a good site to look at:

Shadow Government Statistics - Home Page

He has 40+ professional years at creating models and providing insight into some nasty changes to the way government reports information.

I'm thinking about going back to school to become an economist. Just have to wait for Tuition Assistance to get re-instated.

that was some interesting reading at that statistics site. the article about the deficits and debt was startling. basically, it goes like this:

1) the comptroller of the currency in his report to congress cannot certify to the accuracy of the numbers because there's no way to independently confirm them. and it is a crime for a financial officer, even a government one, to say the books balance according to generally accepted accounting principles when they obviously don't.

2) the share of $17 trillion of national debt is about $100,000 for each and every citizen, trust funders and preschoolers in line for head start alike. but if you count unfunded liabilities it's more like $350,000 each. all the gold ever mined in the history of the world is only $10 trillion. and we don't have that kind of money, so we're in a pretty big hole here.

3) unfunded liabilities means social security and medicare, here's how the accounting works: borrow money from the bank to buy a house and record it as an asset but do not list the corresponding debt as a liability then lease the place out. and on the income/expense ledger note the rental income recieved (taxes) but don't mention the mortgage payment and interest due (entitlements). viola, we're only in hawk 17 trillion instead of 45 trillion! that's not so bad is it? only if the printing press stops running.

thanks for peeing in my economic wheaties frixxxx. and this is a fine soapbox you got here jth.

Good morning

Over the past 60 days there have been 10 Mondays, 8 of which have closed down. As stats go, this is fairly high and I suspect it needs to balance out. Of the last 9 of 10 occasions where both Friday & Monday closed down, we saw lower intraday prices later in the week.

In the far right column are the intraday % swings from low to high. The past 6 down days have seen higher intraday % swings then the last 6 up days. What does this mean? It means that over the last 12 days there is more risk in being invested because the risk to the downside is greater than the risk to the upside.

This is week 14 and while it appear to be flat over the last 20 years with 50% up/down and a .-.01% average, over the last 3 years this week has closed down.

We aren't off to a good start for month 4, but with a 70/30 win ratio it is the 2nd most winning month over the last 20 years (December being first.)

Love your stats...have you ever thought about researching the 1st of the month stats...heard that being invested for the 1st of the month then taking profits that day has produced fantastic returns with only being exposed to the market once a month

Sorry buddy, we talked about this a couple of weeks ago, if it were true, I'd be doing it, I've done scans on this is the past going back to 1950, it isn't true, far from it.

This too is cyclical. Depending on when you start your stratedgy. We've seen those who make the cash utilizing that method, but it doesn't hold up to back testing.

Looking at the evidence it's hard not to conclude that the bottom isn't in, certainly when you look at the Transports. Today, they put in a convincing performance striking through the dominant lower trendline and confirming a close above the 50SMA. Another positive close could easily put the bears to bed.

Going under the knife this morning, the worst part is I'll be I won't be attached to my tablet while under sedation. I tried to tell them I could multi-task but they wouldn't buy it...
