Good to be back, I'm headed to the F-Fund, I'll dust off the charts this weekend and see where things stand.

I'm doing a little better at charting because of your absense. Welcome back.:D

-enjoy your days off; tho I realize you've only changed from one set of books to the stock market charts!

Just finished up school, taking a month off, till then I'll float around and see if I can finish the year in the green, that 3rd quarter really put a beating on me...

How many people can say that? What happened to us Jason?

Pride... All kidding aside, it won't be a great year, but the good news is that most of the principles I applied worked exceptionally well. With a new year almost upon us, I'm prepared to mentally swipe the slate clean and start over.

School has been a good reminder of the bigger goals I have. My wife had been working the last 3 months and I had the pleasure of playing Mr. Mom. Cooking and cleaning has been somewhat relaxing, I can't wait till retirement!

Amen to that. I retired about 18 months ago and went back to school to learn what really interests me. Physics. Time travel, space time continuum etc. I have been loving it. Working on BS and perhaps grad school later. It's so much more fun this time.

My wife loves it too. Me playing Mr. Mom.

Retired and going to school. Life is good.

I wish I could retire. I will be working until I'm 115 years old.
Wow, you plan to live a long time, don't you? :) I plan on working till I drop as well. My main concern is providing for my wife after I'm gone and with my track record that is looking real bad these days. :(

It's not so much about retirement, it's more about living a stress free life by doing what you enjoy. The Military life and working on computers have been good to me but I have no passion for it, I'm just going through the motions. It sucks when you don't like your job, it adds stress to your life you don't need.

As for actual retirement, I could retire in 25 years, but it's dependent on sound investment decisions and lifestyle reductions. I'm re-programing my family every day, trying to undo all the damage caused by the consumeristic society we live in.

Let me know how that works out for you.:D

My wife is an as seen on tv impulse buyer.
A brownie pan and she hasn't made brownies in the year and a half since she got it.
A microwave pasta steamer, out of the package, never used.
A nonstick meatloaf pan never used.
A stack and store glass bowl set with rubber tops that you can use as heat pads, on the counter starting the second week now not oped.
Maybe I'll suggest them as Christmas gifts.:D

Excellent!! Been retired now for 3 1/2 years and loving it!! The "freedom" is wonderful! Did our best to avoid most of the "consumeristic society" in order to build up for retirement. It paid off wonderfully. I don't care to ever have a job again. My "job" is a part time job, at home, with no real hassles.....it's "working" my TSP account to maintain at least what I retired with while withdrawing a very "comfortable living" amount. I LOVE my current "job". Heh Heh

Good luck to you, JTH! May you live long and healthy and enjoy your retirement even more than me....which would be pretty darn much!! :) :) :)

What a lot of younger members on this board don't realize is that the retiree has money falling out of their pockets - but they earned their dollars by doing their time in grade. Now the money wealth building really begins and the retiree has time to follow the markets.. When you can make $20K or $40K a point on any fund - that can be significant.

I know what you mean about doing a job you dont enjoy anymore. That's one reason I decided to get out right at 20. I could have stayed longer for the higher percentage but I just didnt enjoy it as I use to and I wanted to go out on my own terms.

With the retirement check and VA disability I was able to not have to get a job, we paid off all our debts (except mortgage) before I retired so we were set. I was able to stay retired for about 8 months before I got a call from a contracting company asking if I wanted a job. Luckily it was something I didnt mind doing and it's "free money" for us to put away/invest.
