Re: Signal

I think I'm going to continue riding the month out until at least Christmas and see what Santa brings me. My luck it will be coal as it has been throughout the rest of this year, but who knows maybe I'll get lucky.

No risk no reward. Feels like the market is taking a rest. Resume Thursday I hope. Any any case, don't feel prudent to sell. I recall a large runup...followed by a half sell the next day...then a runup for the rest of the month. It happened this year...don't recall when...so I'm sitting all in. Looking at the market action...a sell in the morning to remove weak hands....followed by a buy in the afternoon. At least that is what it looks like from this angle. Lord help us all through sickness and good times...we pray this very day for your guidance and strength. Amen. :D

Re: Signal

System is now up to 10.29% since October 7. I'm out of IFT's but I'll keep posting signals when I get a chance. I'm doing some honeydos (bah humbug) during the day, so I am pretty busy. Good luck to those of you that are still in.

Signal has now flipped from sell and then back to buy the next day twice this month. Oh, well, it works. Up 10.29% since October 7.

So I end up with all this time off and although it is warm here, it rains every f...g day. My mother used to say "if life gives you lemons, make lemonade". She did not tell me what to do with rain?

Had I been in the market on January 3, 2011 and followed the system completely, the returns would have been 26.34% for the C fund and 39.02% for the S fund. This does not consider 2 IFT's per month (I just calculated on Buy, Sell, Buy, Sell.....), but most of the months did not have more than 1 buy signal. It's too much work to consider what the results would have been if I had bought the first or second buy signal, but these numbers ahould be close. I don't have time to develop a spreadsheet to backtest everything.

Those are great returns, but of course without applying it to our two IFT rules, and the one day delay on a buy/sell since you get your signal in the evening and the next day you are stuck in or out of the market thanks to the noon deadlines.

It really doesn't tell us how your system would work for us with only one real buy a month. There is a free spreadsheet on the TSP Talk homepage, I use it for my ROTH IRA. By the limited number of buys you have it wouldn't take but 15-30 minutes to plug in the share prices and get a realistic TSP return.

I am interested in your system, but we really need to know how it works with TSP.

I don't want to give away too much info. I'll ask Tom if I can start a separate tracker on the TSP tracker. I will only use two IFT's per month and then you will get a more accurate reflection of the returns.

On second thought, I always buy on the first buy signal and sell on the frist sell signal, so if you just follow me on the TSP Tracker from now on, you will be able to follow my returns. jkenjohnson is my tracker ID

System is up 12% since Oct 7.
Nice return, Ken. Have you given any thought, going forward, to how large a period you are going to mention returns for? About a quarter, like you do here, seems about right. I wouldn't start over at the new year until we have more than 2 days of data to talk about. Shoot, with only 2 days I'm still in the 500 club on the AT.

I am going to keep reporting the returns as they change based on when I began posting the returns for the system, which was October 7, 2011. At the end of this year, I may start at the first of each year and report throughout that year. Hadn't thought about it much more than that.

Re: Signal

Since I was out of IFT's after the last buy signal in December, I am considering an entry today. Might only go 50S and 50G, since I am entering several days after the signal and we have the jobs report looming on Friday.

I was wondering why you were in G in the AT but on a buy signal... thanks for the update :)
