The way you currently have the information arranged, I can grab the data I need at a glance if I don't have a lot of time. Thank you for the kind words everyone. My goal is to help you folks be able to quickly look at this post and use it as a tool to make your investment decisions because you have to act before the noon cutoff time. The only change yesterday was USO (oil) whipsawing from a buy back to a sell.
The C, S, and I funds as well as the shorting instruments are on trend change alert today. C, S and I could signal buy signals today and the shorting instruments SDS, SDD, and EFU could signal sell signals today providing this mornings gains hold or get stronger. Being a bear market I would play the long side very conservatively. I’m stuck in the G fund for the rest of January so I have to stay put.

Good Morning;

It was disappointing to see the sell signals for SDS, SDD, and EFU come very late. Profit evaporated quickly and the trades yielded small losses. So I’m changing the 13dyma’s to 5dyma’s for more responsive signals starting today. Already I can see a big improvement as the most recent signals are yielding profits in the funds and indexes. I’m sure there will be more whipsaws using this method but it’s the price you pay for trying to get in and out quicker.
I’m stuck in the G fund for the rest of January so I have to stay put.

I'm following a TRIX indocator right now. I've changed the 15 & 9 TRIX default to a 5 and 3, for the same reason you changed the 13 dma to a 5. More whipsaws that way but in this market we have to be more nimble or be satisfied with no gains but no losses in G Fund. Darn IFT limit makes it harder too.

Today we see what the market is made of. We either continue the rally or we continue to move down to possibly test S&P500 800 once again. My guess is we bounce around here then head back down. With all this bad news its hard to see anything other than a downtrend developing. I could be wrong of course but that’s just my gut talking. Good Luck!

Good Morning;
I’ve decided to add a new rule and push back the goal posts during the game. The new rule is; if the 2dyma climbs above the 5dyma a buy signal is NOT given unless the price exceeds the 20dyma and vice versa. In this market the whipsaws are very abundant so to avoid them there has to be another filter. Once the price exceeds its 20dyma to the upside or the downside there seems to be sufficient momentum to move prices higher or lower. Lately prices have stayed below their respective 20dyma’s (C, S, and I) which have resulted in very small meaningless rallies. During these occurrences I think you are better off staying in the G or F fund depending on which is safer at the time.

Question: Have you done any research on the smaller dma's versus the slope of a larger dma. Example the 2 dma moving above the 5dma during a positive slope 50 dma and then versus a negative slope 50 dma.......Just trying to develope a strategy and dont want to reinvent the wheel!

My research has shown that the relationship between the 2dy and 5dyma's has to be looked at in context with what the longer term moving average (20dyma) is doing. The longer term is more important for trend direction. So the way I see it, and I may be wrong, sugggestions welcome, if the 20 dyma is falling as it is now, an upside crossover of the 2dy over the 5dy doesn't mean much until price can have the strength to move above its falling 20dyma.
So the reverse would be true during a bull market. If the 20dyma is rising, a downward crossover of the 2dyma beneath the 5dy wouldn't signify a trend change until price moves below the rising 20dyma and stays there. Of course this is a short term approach maybe 2-5 weeks depending on circumstances.
The bottom line is to stay on the right side of the market, would be to watch direction of the 20dyma. If falling with price below it, stay bearish, if rising with price above it stay bullish. Also Bollinger bands are very effective for entry and exit points. If bullish take profit at upper Bollinger band when hit, if bearish and using shorting instruments (SDS, SDD, EFU) take profit when upper Bollinger band is hit on those charts.

Good Morning;
Okay, that’s it, I’m trying something new. Below you will see a new column called CCI5. CCI stands for Commodity Channel Index. It’s an indicator that can be used for stocks and bonds as well as commodities. At Stockcharts.com I have it set at 5 for the readings below. A reading above 100 is overbought or a Sell, a number below -100 is oversold or a Buy. A reading above 100 or below -100 will be in Bold below in the tables. After studying many charts with this indicator I’ve noticed it picks the tops and bottoms really well within minor cycles. We need all the help we can get hence this sensitive indicator. I am still listing price as well as 20 day moving averages mainly for trend direction. If price moves above its 20dyma I’ll put them in bold, if price moves below its 20dyma I’ll also put them in bold.

Markets are down so far this morning. C, S, and I CCI5 indicators should be getting close to a buy point. They were not quite there with last night’s close as can be seen below. Looks like we may test S&P800 again soon. Playing the long side in this market can be very hazardous to your health. Best to just play the short side in my opinion.
