Here's14U's Account Talk

Good Morning;

I’ve decided to just list those funds and indicators that TSP’ers would be interested in here at TSPtalk. I’ll be listing some ETF’s over at Tom’s new website, ETFTalk.com in the near future.
I have listed below prices, and moving averages for, C, S, I, $BPNYA (Bullish Percent Index), $VIX (Volatility Index), and $USD (US Dollar). The C, S, and I funds have had trouble getting above their longer term moving averages, so until they do, confidence in these markets will be non-existent and only very short term investing is in order. A good time to play it safe in G in my opinion. Rallies in C, S, or I will be unsustainable, so making money in these markets will be very difficult, especially with TSP limitations. If you are lucky enough to catch a rally usually the declining 20day moving averages can act a resistance point and may be a good place to sell out..

The F-fund seems to work best with the Slow Stochastics indicator so I have listed the numbers relating to the fast line and the slow line. When the numbers are above 80 then cross below 80, that would be a sell signal. When the numbers are below 20 then cross above 20 that would be a buy signal. If the number stays above 80 or below 20 for 3 or more days, they are “embedded“. When embedded the F should be gaining momentum either upward or downward. Currently the F fund slow stochastic indicator has come down to near a buy point but more time is needed to see if a bottom is forming. Personally I’m waiting for the BPNYA (below) to turn back up before investing in stocks.
$BPNYA (NYSE Bullish Percent Index) is considered bearish & oversold, below 30%, and the percentage reading @ 12.11%, is below its 5dyma @ 13.87% as well as its 20dyma @ 27.82%. NYSE Bullish Percent Index. simply put, is the percentage of all NYSE stocks on current buy signals from all NYSE Point and Figure charts. A reading above 50% is bullish, below 50% is bearish. A reading above 70% is overbought, below 30% is oversold. If you don’t believe this market is going lower, please go to stockcharts.com and type in $BPNYA to see this chart. This oversold condition can persist for quite some time considering the markets current weakness. The last time we went down, it was to a reading of only 8.00% !!!! Currently we are at 12.15%! A buy signal does not officially trigger until the percentage reading moves back above 30%, but if it moves above its 5dyma it very well may be the start of a worthwhile rally.
I’m currently 100G in the tracker and staying there. I’m waiting for the $BPNYA to turn up before making a move to stocks. Good Luck to all! !

Good Morning;:)
Congratulations to those of you who are in stocks yesterday and today. I’m expecting another bullish day today, however, the big test comes when the S&P moves up to the November lows at about 740-750ish. A couple of up days in this bear market does not make a bottom. Yes, we got some bullish news, which is hard to believe for Citigroup, but was that a put up job?? This company, all of a sudden, turning a profit? I think its just the PPT in action. (Plunge Protection Team). The NYSE Bullish Percent Index has moved above its declining 5day moving average along with other stock indexes. These are good signs, but they have happened before, only to see, stocks move right back down again. Today, not to many reports coming out so we should have a good day, but the later part of the day, could be down. Tomorrow I’m expecting a down day so I’m going to remain in the G fund for now.

I’ve decided to just list those funds and indicators that TSP’ers would be interested in here at TSPtalk. I’ll be listing some ETF’s over at Tom’s new website, ETFTalk.com in the near future.

NYSE Bullish Percent Index. simply put, is the percentage of all NYSE stocks on current buy signals from all NYSE Point and Figure charts. A reading above 50% is bullish, below 50% is bearish. Although the % reading has moved above its 5dyma, the real test will be whether the S&P500 can get through the resistance of the November lows.
I’m currently 100G in the tracker and staying there. I believe this is just a short covering rally and we will head back down again starting later today or tomorrow. Good Luck to all! !

Good Morning;:)
Because the $BPNYA is doing better I’ve decided to go 50S, 50G for now keeping some powder dry should the market take a little breather. The $BPNYA is doing much better now is my reason for doing so, also the S funds price has moved above its 20dyma.

The herd has been moving away from stocks as fast as possible. The herd has an alarming tendency to buy and sell at the worst possible times; this is a very good sign. The last time perma-bear Jeremy Grantham was this optimistic was in the summer of 1982. When it all started.

Good Morning;
This is a tough decision for me, but I’ve decided to go back to the G fund (sorry Birch). First and foremost is all the resistance above the current market. So we go up a few more days, maybe, but then we could get slammed back down, and being the TSP that slam down day will last like eon’s as you watch the market tank. So after this nice rally I just think its more prudent to go back to safety for now. There needs to be more evidence that a bottom has formed, I just don’t see it at this time.

From my perspective, it's a wise choice to watch from the sidelines and sleep peacefully at night. Afterall, sooner or later pigs get slaughtered and we've had some nice gains recently. :D

Good Morning;:)
Good news this morning but the market seems unimpressed. Bottom line, the market is short term overbought, I don’t see the makings of a bull market yet. Overhead resistance still remains. JTH you are correct in your previous comment, staying in at this point is risky.

Good Morning;:)
There is a doomsday scenario we should all be aware of that could come to fruition. Because of the AIG scandal (paid bonuses), there is very little political will now to give AIG anymore bailout money. If it is revealed today (or in the future) that AIG will need more bailout money, the chances are very good they will not get it. We are then at a place where the whole global financial structure is in deep jeopardy. Folks, this is going to get very interesting as well as scary.

$BPNYA (NYSE Bullish Percent Index) is considered bearish & oversold, below 30%, and the percentage reading @ 25.22%, is above its 5dyma @ 22.13% but now above its 20dyma @ 20.65%. NYSE Bullish Percent Index. simply put, is the percentage of all NYSE stocks on current buy signals from all NYSE Point and Figure charts. A reading above 50% is bullish, below 50% is bearish. A reading above 70% is overbought, below 30% is oversold. A buy signal does not officially trigger until the percentage reading moves back above 30%.
I’m currently 100G for the rest of March. Good Luck to all! !

14,

Very good point. I raised a question about AIG on my thread this morning. Might be worth getting more into G and wait out the month.

The Washington Post story yesterday on the AIG bonus topic included talk of employees being afraid to come to work, additional security, threats, etc. and a passage about a senior Financial Products executive at AIG saying that "it's going to blow up" and "end badly." It may not take a refusal to provide additional funds. Bernanke was "magnificent" (Jack Welch's term this morning) on 60 Minutes but being calm may not head off something else.

Some of the experts have been saying for a while that letting "financial collapse" happen now is a better alternative to pushing the inevetable down the road with continued bailouts. This has been Peter Schiff's story line; others too. Not that I'm anxious to see such a thing...

I think the Federal Reserve understands this so it is deciding to buy Treasuries to drive interest rates down so the national debt won‘t be as expensive. Also, According to Mr. Liddy there still is 1.6 Trillion of troubled assets on AIG's books that could blow up anytime.

Good Morning;:)
The $BPNYA (NY stock exchange bullish percent index) is now firmly above 30% at 33.83% triggering a buy signal coming up from below 30%. We’ll see how this indicator does during a bear market. Should it reach above 70% it will then be overbought. Today helicopter Ben speaks so all eyes will be on him. The S&P is at major resistance, will we now turn down even though the $BPNYA is flashing buy??

Good Morning;:)

I’ve decided to just list those funds and indicators that TSP’ers would be interested in here at TSPtalk. I'm a member at Tom’s new website, ETFTalk.com where I mention what I am doing with my IRA.

$BPNYA (NYSE Bullish Percent Index) is now considered bullish, above 30%, and the current percentage reading @ 40.24%, is above its 5dyma @ 36.31% and above its 20dyma @ 23.19%. NYSE Bullish Percent Index. simply put, is the percentage of all NYSE stocks on current buy signals from all NYSE Point and Figure charts. A reading moving from below 30% to above 30% is bullish. A reading above 70% is overbought, below 30% is oversold. A buy signal has officially triggered as the reading is now above 30%.

Two interesting things happened yesterday concerning the C and S funds. Their prices closed above their respective 75 day moving averages. The 75 day moving average has proved to be resistance in the past, but not this time evidently. With the $BPNYA screaming higher, my guess is higher prices are coming with minor pullbacks. I would be a seller if the $BPNYA index closes below its rising 5 day moving average but that has not happened yet so the rally still looks solid.

Good Morning;:)
I think a lot depends on what the US dollar does. It seems that when the dollar falls the stock markets do well, when the dollar rises they go down. In that way the US dollar seems to act like the $VIX, as a fear indicator. When investors are fearful they buy the dollar pushing its value up and vice versa.
