goforit's Account Talk

see saw see saw just waiting sometimes it feels gut wrenching but by time its over it will be positive. 31days no smoking tried a puff or two today and dont like it. 31 days and still no smoking after smoking 1.5 packs aday for 35 years, and the strong ones too. wish the market would be this successful.

Good for you! Keep it up. It's worth what ever it takes. nod.gif

the local university which is affiliated with the main university of MN has a study going on about the effects of people quiting smoking using the patch,a non nicatine cigerette, or group three both. igot just the patch. after as long as i smoked it was just time and being a creature of habit i needed to have a niche of having someone hold me to it. so far i am enjoying not smeling like an ash tray. thanks for the encouragement. now back to this market thing. i am hangingtight and am just going to hold for the long run. because it seams we are in a 3-5 year up swing which in my opinion started after 08. if you look at the history the tsp funds seem to go positive for 3-5 years and then negative for 1-3. jsut saying i like history on my side.

yeah i have a bad hait(no pun intended) fo doing that. I type faster then i think sometimes and other times when i type it auto corrects usually so my spelling isn't to good either...

also, i think your grammar machene is broken

2yr old baby burns 40 cancer sticks a day

How do they afford his habit? Dad and Son together must burn 80 a day!

Ciggies must be cheap over there or fishing pays really damn good. :D

well another world news day and bad days for people in the wake of the tsunami. God bless them and keep them safe. most likely will effect everything in the market and like all natural disasters the OIL tycoons will increase the price per barrel and we will se a continue drop in the market. i am going to take a chance and go 100%S before the trade deadline today because i want to catch the next week rebound and hopefully the three up days the seasonality chart shows. it has been real tough sitting here invested in CSI and keep watching my funds fall but this is a marathon so i will just go for it.

smoking up date for those that gave me encouragement. fell off the wagon and have smoked three packs of cigs in the past week. the study i am in dropped me off the patch and i did not get the next step because that is not what the study does. so now i am going to get the next step anyway because i do not want to get back to the 2 pack a day habit. i figured i better do this before my body gets addicted that heavy again. thanks again to all that encouraged and i will keep trying.

may change my mind before the trade deadline and make my second move to the C fund 100%. reason well if today plays out to the low i will buy more for way less then the S fund share prices and the next three days of the seasonality are suppose to be up. the tsunamis/earthquake disaster will have had a few days to settle on the minds of the market so i am just guessing(hoping) it is up from here. maybe it will carry through april.

did not jump going to hang tight in S 100% because it doesn't look like the S fund is getting hit too hard that a couple of rebound days in a row won't cure.

looking at the posts and bloomberg it doesn't look like a good day for anyone. not sure what to do. i have one IFT left and am looking at the C/I fund for a buy low to hit this when it comes back. currently 100S. going to change contribution to I fund have been S fund for a while and well its time for a change.

question? I keep reading about this DCAing thing and do not really understand what it is or how it works any one care to explain it and also what is this <1% move thing i tried to read about it on this MB but i have a basic mind and need it dumbed down. any takers?

Dollar Cost Averaging=DCA

It means you buy a given fund/stock incrementally, regardless of the movement. Therefore, you buy more shares of the investment when it is down, and less when it goes up.

The interfund transfer limits the TSP has cursed us with makes dollar cost averaging difficult.

<1% moves can be made without counting toward your monthly interfund transfer limit.

If you have 40.50% in the C fund, 30.50 in the S fund and 29% in the I fund, you can move to 41% C, 30% S and 29% I, if you so choose.

weatherweenie does a nice job explaining what DCA is. This is also the money that comes out of your paycheck to purchase shares in the fund you specify to TSP.

The link below explains what the <1% move is. Go to the first post. This thread was edited down to the most important posts that really explained the idea of <1%. If you have any specific questions ask in my thread I will do my best to answer and explain.
