FogSailing's Account Talk

1. What's a "BOT"? a botfly? the bank of Thailand? some computer virus that's reading this forum? I honestly don't know.

"Bot" is short for "Robot," which in this case, refers to automated trading programs. [A subset of which are known as High Frequency Trading ("HFT") algorithms.]

Exactly Q. I find BOTS fascinating. Programs that utilize decision trees, Bernoulli processes, statistics, linear programming, differential calculus and the like to create multiple future alternatives, run scenarios, and make decisions based on outcomes such lowest risk and highest reward. I find HFTs absolutely fascinating.

One of those nights where I just can't sleep. Here are a few tidbits for Friday...I have no true idea of the day turns out but I think it's gonna be a doozy..

First chart indicates the key support (1875) and resistance levels (1947) for SPX. The second is a Fib chart that provides a unique look at symmetry. If I were making a decision from these 2 charts today, it would be that we either lose a little, or make a lot. It will be fun to watch the action...except of course, I'll probably fall asleep just about the time everything gets going..:friday:

Best of luck to all in your trading...:grouphug:

Very interesting...Thus far today, Oil is interrupting the downward trajectory. I have real-time charts of Oil, S&P500 and $USD side by side. Each time S&P500 attempts to drop, oil rises. Where is that strength coming from? Hmmmmmmmmm...

FS, can you please post the links of the real-time charts you mentioned above? Thanks

Hi Airlift. I use my Fidelity account for most of my stuff. But here are some links I would use if I didn't have my Fidelity account.

I think these accounts have a 15 minute delay but very good. The last link is my account with freestockcharts.com. It's a super site although their time data is delayed 15 minutes I believe.

Here's a picture of my SPX account from freestockcharts.com.

Hi KK. Paid a visit to Kona in early January for about 10 days. Stayed in a small resort (Wyndam Royal Sea Cliff resort) about 4 miles outside Kailua. Really enjoyed it. Best excursion was swimming with the manta rays from the vessel: Hula Kai.

I don't know if I could live on an island but I do know that I miss the ocean. BTW: Did you paint the picture in your logo...very Hawaii!!:D:D

All the best.

Aloha! So you were over on my rock in the pacific? You should have sent me a PM I would have met you for a Mai Tai and would have given you some tips on some local spots to go snorkeling and swimming. The Fair Winds is a good company to use for snorkeling trips. I tried them out one time when I had guests visiting and we had a good time. Did you go down the water slide? I was the only adult amongst the kids who tried it out, it was fun. Did you go aaaaaall the way around the island? That takes one day alone to just drive around the island and maybe see a few sites. There is soooo much to do over here it can be overwhelming for a short visit.....you'll need to come back. :D And yes, it takes a certain kinda personality to live on an island, it's not for everyone. Almost all my friends have left and gone back to live on the madland. No thanks. I'm content swimming in the ocean, breathing fresh air and not dealing with all the bs of America (local joke.)

a hui hou !

Hi KK: Our favorite restaurants were Jackie Reyes, the Fish Hopper and the Island Grill, and for fun fare Kona brewing Company (good pizza and cold beer), and Annie's Island Burgers. We made it the Punnal'u Bakery, the Black and Green sand beaches but didn't make it to Hilo. We did drive the other way to Waimea and had dinner at some real fancy restaurant (can't remember the name- outrageously expensive and real good but not great)...so all told...we visited maybe half of the island. The day we were driving up to the volcano it was raining a bit much so we turned around but really enjoyed what we did see. I hope to make it back one day. It was most enjoyable. I can see why you love it there. The best part was going to sleep at night and hearing the waves, or getting up when I couldn't sleep (which happens a lot these days) and going to just sit outside on the veranda and watch the ocean and the boats going about their business.

All the best.

I may be on Honolulu in a couple of weeks, still waiting on final approval for the travel. Will be hitting the Rainbow Diner for some Loco Moco! :D

Some interesting information from a market blog I read occasionally. It sounds like tomorrow we likely revisit the lows, then possibly shoot upwards toward 1875, and then who knows. At least that's how the analyst is reading the data. Thought it was a good example of using technical analysis to assist in gauging market direction.

Tomorrow is going to be a barn burner one way or the other I think. Oil had a bad day today and every blog I've read this evening is extremely bearish. Shanghai and Japan are down but HSI is up right now. So, I just checked the news feed to find this on Iran and Saudia Arabia:

http://www.cnbc.com/2016/02/09/iran...abia-on-oil-market-conditions-iranian-tv.html

I also found this article on Fed Prez Yellen and NIRP. Can't say this instills any BooYaa in me but it will play in tomorrow's activities in some fashion.

Some have also seen an inverted cup and handle pattern: Inverted Cup and Handle - Free Online Trading Education

I'm hoping the bulls find a way to gore the bear tomorrow and climb up to 1901 or higher. Hope for more good news overnight. Wouldn't that be refreshing.

Futures suggest a positive open but I remain skeptical that this will turn out to be nothing more than another one hit wonder followed by more pain. Sadly, TSP'ers cannot join in on the fun of selling the rallies at 3:59 P.M. or, do it several times a month for that matter.

That forces us to be more disciplined and careful. And I'm personally seasick from all the heavy rolls.

Should get one of those count down widget thingy's I guess. But to be honest, I'm really not counting down. I'll probably leave the agency some sick leave too. I guess it's my military upbringing, I just can't lay down yet.
